I had an extremely unprofessional and disturbing experience with this upholstery business. I was running late due to my child being sick. I was just 20 minutes away. He reacted with uncontrollable anger. He began yelling at me, called me a liar, and then abruptly hung up the phone. His behavior was erratic and aggressive, to the point of hyperventilating during the call. This is not how any customer should be treated under any circumstances. I needed to have something repaired to my leather trimmed driver seat of my '17 Mazda 3 car. Within the first 13 months, there was a vertical tear of almost two inches at the front/left vertical seat where the vinyl portion met the leather portion. Fortunately, during my regular Mazda dealer servicing, the service writer said it would be covered under the warranty, so that was done and all was well. Then i noticed it again and just waited for my next servicing at 24 months with the dealer. From the local dealer's viewpoint, it should have been replaced again, but MazdaUSA said no and did not approve the replacement indicating that the previous replacement was done as a good gesture as really, the warranty on THAT portion was only 12 months/12k miles. Makes you wonder when these car manufacturers tout their 3 years/36k or 5 years/50k warranty...yup, guess you have to read the fine print ! So I have been driving for almost two more years, and so the tear got slightly longer to the point..ok, I need to have this repaired. Started looking at Yelp! for suggestions, and saw Waipahu Upholstery come up with 5 stars rating from 25 reviews. I sent a request for a quote from them, and a reply came back within 12 hours. They asked for pics, so I sent two pics. Since i live practically close by to this place of business, i told them i'd bring the car over on Saturday morning for further diagnosis. This place was easy to find, located at the corner of Leoleo and Leokane Streets (makai on the same street where the old City Mill/Pflueger Honda motorcycles and the ABC Furniture Store were located) in a single level sky blue painted building that also had several other shops. That Saturday, I was met by Chang and his mother as I walked into the ample sized shop. They looked at the tear and provided me with a verbal quote and time it would take to do the repair. I was ok with both the price and time frame to wait in their shop, so I told Chang that I'd come on Monday (MLK Day). He told me to come around 8:30am when they opened. I came just after 8:30am, and saw both of them. I looked around for somewhere to sit, and Chang's mother provided me with a padded fold up metal chair, and I sat right next to Chang's desk/computer station. I was ready for the 2-3 hour wait but hoping it would be quicker than that since my okole gets sore from sitting that long. Once I got out of the car, Chang and mom began working with their air hose to remove the screws and take the complete driver seat off and carry it to their work table. I was periodically looking to see what was being done, but within about 55 minutes from start to finish and the reinstalling of the driver seat and put back the connections, the work was done ! Chang and I looked over the repair area and I couldn't see how it was ever previously torn...it looked just as good like it came from the factory ! Bravo ! I would not hesitate to return here for upholstery repairs on vehicles based on the work done to my car ! I re-upholstered our dining room chairs once, went straight over the old cloth, stapled like crazy, but 3 years later, and it was time to do it again. When I unscrewed the seats from the frame, I could see I was in trouble. Instead of plywood, the seats were made from some MDF/paper that had half disintegrated. I called a shop in Kaneohe. They were unresponsive. I called a couple other similar places, similar weak sauce. I called this shop in Waipahu, and I could tell thus was a Mom and Pop shop. I drove out at the appointed time w 5 seats and new cloth. We spoke for 10 minutes. The nice man touched base with the nice lady (his mom?), and we all nodded at the scope of work and price. We shook hands. Four days later, I drove to pick up my beautifully rebuilt seats. All new plywood, brand new foam, excellent finishing, made me think of C.S. Wo. Though they couldn't give me quote just through the pics I provided, they had the time to take me that day to look at my sofa cushions. The quote they gave me was substantially less than two other businesses who responded to my Yelp help. They had quite a bit of fabrics to choose from. Had work done by these awesome folks over the years and was always happy with the craftsmanship of their work. The Korean owners are friendly and extremely helpful in making your imagination into cloth and they do it for the best price. The first time I used their service was for a headliner recovery on one of my sports cars. I shopped around for quotes and everyone gave me ridiculously high prices even though I removed it myself. That's when I found Waipahu upholstery. Dropped it off, told them what I wanted, selected a fabric, they called me the next day to pick it up and charged me 1/4 the price everyone else quoted me. 10 years later and my headliner still looks as good as the day they reupholstered it. So it was an easy decision to make when I needed all my seats recovered in my even older 30+ year old car. Again, they did an AMAZING job for a great price. All pieces had to be custom made as no kits were available for my old car. They special ordered a fabric that I selected, made everything in house and called me back the following week. The results were a show car quality interior that retained the vintage look and feel. If I could give this business more than 5 stars I would. I recently (and by recently I mean yesterday) dropped off a few custom made leather couch cushions that my dog had destroyed the edges of. When I went to drop off the cushions the location was easy to find, I walked in and was helped immediately. They told me the cushions would be ready in about 2-3 days. They did an amazing job on reupholstering my large custom folding therapeutic treatment table and at a very fair price for the amount of workmanship that went into it! The original vinyl was just crumbling like old paper (terrible), and I did not want to just buy a new table. They let me select my favorite color and completed the job in one week. Wow!
