But here's the thing: the moment that dried aku hit the table, all my food blogger instincts went completely out the window. It was just me and that fish, and nothing else mattered. The dried aku was everything the hype promised -- deeply savory, with that concentrated, almost smoky flavor you only get when something is made with real patience and skill. The kind of dish that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. Absolutely ono. No notes. Next time -- and there will be a next time, probably very soon -- I'm going in for the laulau. We ordered our usual combos of char siu, spicy ahi, limu ahi, lomi salmon, and roast pork over white rice. The char siu was fresh and tasty; not over cooked in the slightest and not overly sauced at all. Just a perfect balance of juicy pork with a sweet coating. The roast pork, despite the 30 minute travel to our door, was still juicy with a crispy and perfectly crunchy skin layer. Hubs was in heaven! And the poke... ah, soooooo welcome on my palate! I've missed fresh ahi and so happy to finally have some again. Mildly dressed so the ahi truly shines through. Being able to alternate with the salty lomi salmon was delightful. And all over an order of their garlic noodles. Before I dug into my poke, I went for "just one bite" of garlic noodles and didn't even realize I had been eating it nonstop until it was half gone! I have 2 favorites -- Tuesday & Thursday.   I eat it practically every week and you'd never guess when you see it! Tuesday is the BBQ Bowl -- You get ypur choice of meat, rice, and a side (banchan). I always get the smoke meat with pickled onion on rice. The smoked meat has plenty smoked taste, just enough fat, and it's not tough (you know what I mean).  The pickled onion is the perfect compliment!   Love the bite and the vinegar taste -- cuts though and brings it all together!   They give you quite a bit in the bowl.  Definitely enough to make me smile!    Again ---- $6.00!!!!! Thursday is another winner in my book.   It's noodle day!!!  I used to get the Mega which had everything in it.   It was a special that they had at the beginning but it's been discontinued.  I think the only one I'm not too crazy about is the curry.   I know some like it -- but having watery curry with noodles is just not me.   The rest are pretty good.   They warm up the noodles right there and add all the goodies on top.  It's take out so they give you the hot broth in another container ---- perfect so your noodles don't get soggy!   I think it's a great 'buy and eat later' meal! After satisfying my smoothing cravings at Hang's French Cafe & Smoothies which is right next door you know I had to give them a visit and as I walked in I just didn't expect to see so many options to neatly displayed at this cool shop. One wall is filled the snacks the local love and the easy grab and go does take care of cravings instantly along with some Pop Mart items though isn't quite the snack we sure have been eathing up the rave that's been keeping us guessing ourselves. Many of their items are crafted like specialty popcorn, Hawaiian Frost Soft Serve, Shaved Ice, and even açaí bowls. Keeping the coolness after my smoothie I decided on some dipping' dots as I stared into the display case with the various flavor offerings it was the "Cool Mint Crunch" oh yeah the minty coolness really hit the spot and bits of Oreo was so yummy as it kept me still for a moment as I enjoyed my treat before I continued on my errands taking this me time was just right.
