Wai Ying is this Chinese dimsum place at the ground floor of EGI Taft. If anything, I have to give Wai Ying credit. It pretty much NEVER closes. EVER. In 2 years of living here, I've seen Wai Ying closed maybe three times. The first because of its expansion project, second on Holy Week, and third on sundays during the summer.
However, pretty much on every other time of the year, it's open. Signal 4 storm with floodwaters that go up to your knees? Fuck yeah it's open. Papal visit? You bet your booty that it's open. 1AM on a random Saturday night? Still open baby. I don't really understand how it can still find people willing to work during these times, but still, you have to give them credit. On every day where you expect nothing to be open along Taft, you're normally going to find that only two places are open: McDonalds and Wai Ying. Even then, I've come across one instance where McDonalds was closed and Wai Ying was still open. That's balls right there.
I'm giving them a 4 because of that, but not so much for the food. The food is fairly average run-of-the-mill dimsum, at a mid-level price point. You can expect all your typical spareribs, chicken feet, and siopao available here. They also have a fairly decent selection of rice meals and noodles; I recommend their lemon chicken. The environment is a little suffocating, but that's because the place isn't really that cold and there's always A LOT of people around, which is fair because dimsum places are far and few int he area. But regardless, Wai Ying is aces for its magical ability to never close up. Ever. read more
