    I've been to Canton Road at different occasions and each time, they impress with the quality of their food and service. I initially expected the servings to be teeny tiny. On the contrary, they're huge! The ambience of the restaurant speaks for the hotel's reputation; quite luxurious yet still comfortable and perfect for families. In terms of the cost, it's relatively more expensive than other Chinese restaurants. They do provide copies of their dimsum and a la carte menus when you contact them. I suggest making a reservation before going. They sometimes have limited stocks (i.e., Peking duck) during busy days - those can be reserved in advance too! They also cater to special requests whenever possible. My niece even got kiddie utensils when I requested for them. My favorites would have to be: * Sweet and sour pork with lychee and apple cider vinegar - It's flavorful and not too tangy! I'd say the serving's good for 4 people already. * Wok-fried Angus beef with onion leeks and eringe mushroom - The beef is juicy and tender! Coupled with the vegetables, the flavors complement each other wonderfully. * Steamed Iberico pork, shrimp, and US scallop dumplings with black garlic - The best siomai I've ever had! For 4 (huge) pieces per order for this wonder, it's all worth it. * Fried shrimps with mozzarella cheese kataifi pastries - My sister's pick and an absolute must-try. We had to order two of these the last time!

    There are an abundance of Chinese food choices in the Philippines but rare so I find where the use of salt is kept at bay and so is MSG. I call this clean food ni don't leave with my mouth dry and my taste buds are happy. Also key to their food are the ingredients and the preparation which is how great Chinese food should be.

    Canton road is a god tier place. The food is always amazingly good and large portions. The service is great. It's authentic Chinese. Highly recommend. Ambiance is beautiful. Make sure you reserve as they sometimes full

    Canton Road sets a new standard for Chinese restaurants in Metro Manila, changing the landscape of quality and pricing for the better. They have 5 Chinese Chefs who will be stationed to provide guests authentic Cantonese to Shanghainese flavours with a sprinkle of Shangri-La's magic. Expect to engulfed in a modern and luxurious ambience that is signature of Shangri-La Fort as a whole. They challenge conventional attitudes of interior design (predominant reds) and stereotypical hotel premiums, while stand-alone Chinese restaurants aim to charge even more with their so called "Hotel Like" ambience. Jiangnan Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs (618 PHP) Although it may not be heavy on the meat, but the balance between and sour is a the real treat. Flamed Barbecue Trio Sampler (2288 PHP) The lechon macau is a dream in my mouth. A sensation of potato-like crispiness with meat attached for an elevation of satisfaction. Soft Bean Curd Soup (388 PHP) Bean curd chopped by hand a thousand or more times to a misua thin strands, releasing the fine flavours into the soup along with smokiness of Yunan ham. Mingnan Five Spiced Marinated Pork (748 PHP) A flavourful ratio of fat and lean meat for a soft feel that contrasts with the crisp tofu skin wrapper, a savoury bite. Steamed Crystal Skin Shrimp Dumplings (248 PHP) A luscious bite awaits thanks to the king prawn used to h Steamed Iberico Pork Dumpling (468 PHP) A dumpling topped with Abalone and Black Truffle. It's hard to understand its simplistic beauty on media, but a piece of this will have you asking for seconds. Steamed Hong Kong Custard (228 PHP) PANDA BUNS!!!!! It's hard not to like these cute custard and salted egg buns. Don't worry about taking too long to photograph, as insides are hot, so let them steam off while you enjoy its sight.

    Canton Road is the newest restaurant in Shangri-La The Fort. It boasts cuisines derived from all over China with tons of expat chef imported from their own respective provinces. The design and concept of the restaurant can be described as pure elegance. Without the touch of reds, wooden Chinese furnitures and intricately designed carpets and wall hangings will welcome you. The excellent vibe of just being in 'Shangri-La hotel' is present. From the first step to the hotel upto the restaurant has the feel of royalty. People would sincerely approach to assist you on where you're heading. The details of their service to the interior is also evident in the food of Canton Road. Jiangnan Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs is their version of the vinegared pork ribs that uses bkack vinegar. Their version is much lighter and has a balance of sweet and sour. Can't get enough of this. Their roast BBQ sampler or our cold cuts as we are familiar with is the best. Their asado uses Iberico pork which has a dense pork flavor, slightly sweet but perfect. Crispy Pork Belly or Lechon Macau has a nice thin crisp skin that is like potato chips to the bite. It has a hint of five spice powder that gave it a new dimension to the dish. The jellyfish side dish was jelly and crunchy. They added some sichuan peppercorn that gave it a floral-spiced kick! Soft Bean Curd soup with yunan ham. A simple tofu soup that is flavored with the smokey ham and dried scallops. The most amazing thing in this dish was the silken tofu was sliced so thinly that it made it look like a misua and just melts in your mouth!!! Mingnan Five Spice Marinated Pork or what we know as 'ngo hiong keng' or some kikiam for the Chinese was fantastic! Chopped spiced pork, pork fat, and water chestnuts wrapped in a tofu skin wrapper then fried to crisp! The balance of fat and meat gave it a multi textural composition in your mouth! It's just addicting! Steamed Crystal Skin Shrimps Dumpling or hakaw was sweet and succulent! They used King prawns that gave it a flavor! Steamed Iberico Pork dunpling with Abalone and Black Truffle, in short siomai! If I can give it a Michelin, i'll give it a 3 for the siomai alone! Sweet, succulent, earthy, tender, chewy, seafood umami. No words can describe this dish. And its just P488 per order! The cutest panda bun or their Steamed HK custard and salted egg bun! The bread was soft and the filling was rich without the overpowering of the salted egg. It's just a balance of flavor. Just be careful to bite into it, it's hot. The trick is to break it into two before biting. Don't be too excited to eat the panda, careful, they might bite! Super worth every penny! Sweet Taro Puff was as cool as the panda, shaped like a swan. It was baked perfectly that created the thin, not oily, puff pastrt crust that breaks like a croissant. The taro filling was smooth and creamy. It was just a heaven for the taro lovers. Canton road's Chinese cuisine is just at par, in terms of prices , to other standalone high-end Chinese restos, but in terms of FLAVOR, I'll choose Canton Road. It's disappointing. I come to the Philippines every few years and like a good time with my parents. But this was terrible. Then the server lied when my dad asked why my order never came. She said I never ordered it. After taking my order, she actually followed up a little later to tell me that my vegetarian dish was still coming. At that point every other order was done. Then it still never came. My dad rightfully gave her a piece of his mind and said it was unacceptable. But she still lied and told him I never ordered. Again it's unfortunate. They should train their servers better and let them know how to give good service with a good attitude. You pull up to the front door and it's like an entrance to a fancy hotel with a door person who can help with people getting in and out of a car. Almost seems like there would be valet service but nope someone's gotta park the car around the corner. Entrance has a huge seafood tank with would rival a tourist museum/aquarium. I heard there are 3 levels, the bottom being general public, and other 2 for different levels of reserved dining probably a floor just for big banquets for weddings. Tofu Spinach Soup (4*) Very simple soup of thickened broth (chicken/seafood) with delicate ribbons of spinach leaves and silky bits of tofu. Very mild but a perfect start to whet the appetite. Roast Crisp Chicken (4*) This could be a Filipino/Chinese hybrid prep. Definite soy flavor in the chicken and roasted very crisp that the skin is so rendered and crisp. The meat is on a little on the dry side but I think many Filipinos like it that way. Yangchow Fried Rice (4*) Basic Hong Kong style fried rice with peas, scallion, diced pork and small shrimps. Back in my younger days I could make a meal with just a big bowl of this. This version was okay, I prefer more wok hei but still decent. Seafood Pan Fried Noodles (3.5*) This was just okay to me. Sauce kinda muted and seafood not memorable. Just average. Sweet & Sour Pork (4.5*) I usually don't order this for myself, but my family usually does. This was one of the best versions I've ever had. First off the pork is so crisp on the outside and so tender inside. Then the sauce was totally made in the pan by caramelizing sugar and adding vinegar and something orangish. It wasn't bright red, kinda burnt orange. And that prominent caramel flavor in the background was so eyebrow raising. Steamed Whole Fish (5*) Straight from one of the tanks, some sea bass type of fish, looked real similar to a branzino type of fish. Maybe a pound and a half to 2 pounds, so the fish was so tender and supple. Simply steamed and dressed with that slightly sweet soy and lots of slivered ginger and fresh cilantro. I love this dish anywhere I go, and here was no different. Mango Sago (4*) Don't think they automatically give out complimentary desserts, as this came out in a big tureen after we requested it. I didn't see the bill so not entirely sure. But this is a chilled fruit soup of sorts. Super fresh mango flavor like definitely not from a frozen puree, like I taste from the U.S. This is a tropical country where fresh mangos are super easy to find, thus pretty cheap too. I almost ate mangoes every day on my trip, and I know that fresh mango sensation, very floral in aroma. This soup was perfect texture, not too thick and just enough tiny tapioca pearls (sago) to not make this just seem like thick mango juice. BUT the most unsweetened version I've ever had, like the only sugar was from the fruit. But I suppose I'd rather have the sweetness be a little muted than over done with it being cloyingly sweet. I found out that this is where my family likes to go when they want to celebrate something and sit at a big table for 8-10 peeps. This type of dining is perfect for that as everyone gets to eat family style and just share everything. And let's face it, banquet Cantonese food is a favorite for any Asian culture. This country has a long history with Chinese food, from even actual citizens learning and professionally cooking in that style. I did like how I did see some integration of Filipino taste in classic Chinese dishes, made our occasion that much more fitting. I'm a big time fan. I'm sure I'll see this place again on future visits as my fam are regulars here.

The pork chop was decent, they had a different take on the frying and I appreciated it. But the fried rice, 3 bites, nope. The Prawn Fried Chicken wings and drums........soooo confusing. When it arrived I smelled shrimp, it was strong enough to overtake the table, not in a bad way just had u questioning how chicken could smell so strongly Prawn. I guess that's why they call it that! Perhaps it's a thing here or am existing trend I'm clueless about, but for me, yea.......no. Fried chicken itself was good, just like the Tim How Wan in China (without the prawn frying) but the prawn frying here was just nope! The beef brisket noodle soup.......noodles mushy. A big nonooooooooo. Beef and tendons were just ok. Broth just ok..... The BBQ Pork Buns thankfully NOT messed with. Always the shining star of Tim Ho Wan. Flaky, hot, tasty.
