Went to Wai Ying in Binondo last weekend with my family and it was exactly what we needed after a…read morelong day exploring. The dim sum cart came around quick, and we loaded up on hakaw, siu mai, char siu bao, and those amazing crispy taro puffs--everything was hot, fresh, and tasted just like the old-school spots back home. The spare ribs were tender and saucy, not overly sweet, and the yang chow fried rice had that perfect wok hei. Service was friendly even though it was packed; our server made sure we had hot tea refills without us asking. Super affordable too--we fed six of us and still had leftovers for under 2k. Total comfort food win. Definitely heading back next time we're in the area. Five stars all the way!

What's the big draw? Long queue for late lunch on a week day? I don't get it. We ordered HK style…read morefried noodles, spare ribs, siomai, roasted duck congee, roasted duck and asado rice. I can summarily declare that all the items we ordered were below our culinary standards in the following order from worst to not so bad. HK style fried noodles, the sauce was peanuty tasting poured over noodles. Horrible looking. The congee is not very appealing to the eyes and the palate. The duck was bony. The congee itself was barely hot. Siomai was no good either. The roasted duck with rice again lacking presentation appeal. The tofu skin roll is ok thus the 2 star. The waiter was very green. Served our sodas without glasses. Avoid and don't believe the hype.

Quality wise it is really food, can't complain. The beef brisket soup during promo hours is only 98 PHP. Definite must to get. Beancurd and shrimp dumplings are good too. My only complaint: service time. We got seated early and placed our orders early too. It took 30+ minutes to get some of the food orders in our table. It did take a couple of follow ups with the servers, but all orders were complete. Just wish the service was slightly faster. If you want an alternative to King Chef, then go here!

I am not really sure why but I always make it a point to dine here only during their promo hours. Yes, I guess I'm strategic like that. Or maybe perhaps this restaurant really offers affordable and quality food choices. Aside from their dimsum, I usually dine at Golden Fortune for their shabu-shabu promo hours. Me and my dining companions usually order up a storm whenever we're here. And despite how many dishes we order, the bill still comes out cheap. All the more reason to dine here again and again. Make sure to get both the sate and original soup to get the best of both broths. Must orders would have to be: tao pao, lamb, beef, lobster balls, watercress, corn, tofu, squid balls and udon.

Beancurd Skin Roll with Pork & Shrimp: I found this fascinating. It's not our regular order and I enjoyed its overall flavor. This will be considered for another adventurous return. Braised Chicken Feet with Abalone Sauce: My mouth was very busy trying to segregate the bones and meat and it was a fun experience! I'll enjoy this dish in any sauce and theirs was pretty good! Braised Soup HK Style with Shredded Chicken and Mushroom: This was okay. I'm probably not a fan of this type of soup but I wouldn't mind eating it again. Cold Barley Water: It was bland but what else could I have expected? Haha! Pork Dumpling with Shrimp: If we don't get Prawn Dumplings, this one is almost always present at our table. So yes, it's good! Since each bite was packed with pork and shrimp, it was pretty worth it. Pork Rib with Black Bean Sauce: I found it simple, subtle, and oily but perfect to my liking! Prawn Dumpling: Such a dumpling is our all-time favorite and this is the first kind we'd usually look for at any restaurant serving dumplings. The wrapper looked cute and fluffy yet it did a good job keeping all the generous pieces of shrimp packed together without easily breaking apart. Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp: My experience of this was simple: It's like an elongated Prawn Dumpling but with sauce.
