This is one of those Chinese takeaways I think suffers by trying to cater for the English palette.
Whenever I see a takeaway offering a Chinese takeaway and fish and chip option I usually avoid, because invariably they fall down in both respects. If I want fish and chips I'll go to a bloody good fish and chip shop, who concentrate on nothing else but doing fish and chips and doing them well. Likewise, if I want a Chinese takeaway, I'll go to the best Chinese takeaway who concentrate on doing authentic Chinese meals to the best of their ability.
Wai Sing Fish Bar is a perfect example of why I stick to this rule. The chips you get from them are the chips you'll find in most Chinese takeaways. You know the ones. Speaking like a real heathen, but they're okay as a side to your beef in oyster sauce, but they don't stand up to a traditional chip from a chip shop. Similarly, the Chinese meals themselves aren't too bad, but you don't have to search too far to find nicer food.
