Came to Liverpool to visit family, this restaurant was recommend by my cousin's friends. We got in…read moreat around 9pm, and there were two other large groups. Decor is pretty nice, and ambiance is great. Service | 3/5 stars, the waitress was not very pleasant, and seemed to be in a rush each time -- towards the end she became a little nicer, but our first impression stuck throughout the night. The dishes are small, think tapas, therefore I would recommend two plates per person. Food | 4/5 I got the Nasi Goreng- this was delicious, it's fried rice with chicken, a fried egg and shrimp cake. I would get this again I also got the Bak Choi- which was not too great, it was very dry. I expected it to be sautéed. My cousin ordered the pla meuk gatiam which is squid with chili sauce- that was fantastic and someone else ordered the enogimaki- enogi mushrooms wrapped in beef, delicious. If I'm in Liverpool again I'd come back- hopefully service improves as well.

We were there at least 45+ minutes before receiving our first appetizer and when we asked about the other half of our order, they said it would be 3 minutes. 45 minutes later we left without ever receiving it. What we had was fine, but I cannot recommend this place to anybody. As a former server, I understand having an unexpected rush, however, three tables that came after us got their food and one even got his bill before our second appetizer (which never came).

The food is classed as pan asian which is great as I love all asian food. However, the sushi, although very good, I feel it is slightly overpriced for what you get. The duck, especially at lunch, is amazing value though. Plenty for 2 to share. This is definitely a place to try out if you love asian food.

My first visit to Sakana and I was pleasantly surprised at how its interior looked (more so the delicious smells wafting over as you passed by their open kitchen). We were seated in a corner with decent views of the goings-on, and set about conquering the menu - the group was almost military in its tactics, dividing the menu's sections between ourselves to make sure we got to sample lots of different dishes. Three of us ordered a bottle of their house red (a Merlot) which was actually quite good - a bit on the peppery side but I really liked it. The food started to arrive after a bit of a wait, but we'd had some prawn crackers to whet our appetite. The sashimi platter that I ordered for us all to share was a bit disappointing (usual price £28 for 15 pieces). I can't think of anything else that was particularly underwhelming; the combo of orders was all rather good - but the highlights for me were the Taiwanese buns which you could have with shredded duck or pork belly (we ordered both). These were absolutely heavenly, for want of a better word. Service was friendly, if not a tad haphazard at times; it's definitely somewhere to consider for date night. That being said, you'd have to be happy 'flashing the cash' as I don't think it's worth the full price they'd ordinarily be charging diners.
