We sat in the front by the window which was nice and cozy. They were a bit on the busy side when we entered, but once our order was taken it took about 20 minutes to get our food. From the looks of previous reviews, Waffle House is a local staple well-known to residents and visitors alike; yelp is not highly utilised in Norwich yet this business has a higher than average review count. Even without yelp, I'd know how popular this place is because it's in all the guides and is a restaurant I'd initially seen and heard about when starting at the university. It's one of the first breakfasts I had in Norwich and is easy to find in the city centre. As expected, it was busy but we didn't wait too long to be seated. The queue ended up being much longer after we finished. There are multiple floors but we were on the ground level towards the back dining area--just a tad bit of a tight squeeze around our table. We ordered three dishes: a granola and fruit bowl to share, the Mixed Fruit & Nut Waffle, and the Waffle House Breakfast (mine, which included a waffle, free range scrambled eggs, field tomatoes and mushrooms, and bacon rashers). While the savoury bits were okay, I found the namesake waffles, and ultimately the plate itself, to be forgettable...or below average at best. With a spattering of other superior breakfast and lunch eateries in the city, Waffle House is not one I'd return to. I know I'm deviating from the general review consensus, but I wasn't particularly impressed with my dining experience and a relative of mine had an even worse meal another time. Great Food! Great Service! The Waffle House has been in Norwich for as long as I can remember, I have never had a bad meal there and the service is always great and the staff very friendly!! They serve both savoury and sweet waffles! My personal favourites are the savoury ham, mushroom and cheese sauce waffle and the sweet banoffee waffle for dessert! They also do a starter/side of blue cheese salad which is so tasty and they do THE best banana milkshakes too. The restaurant is only small, so you may have to queue, and there is often a small huddle of people waiting just inside the doorway. We have been to Waffle House a handful of times now and have had enjoyable food each of those times. Service is helpful. Food is fresh. Lots of healthy options for entrees and lots of sinful options for dessert :) All served on waffles! What more could you ask for? Oh - you could ask for more waffle options... which they are indeed happy to provide... whole meal or gluten free... no problem! Or you could ask for an option for the non-waffle eater in your party... again no problem, they have that covered too with a mix of basmati and wild rice on offer as well. :) As with any restaurant that employs multiple chefs, the dishes might vary ever-so-slightly from night to night (for example on our most recent visit our tuna entrees had less sauce on them than usual), but even with slight variations the food is still in the very good to excellent range. If you are in Norwich looking for an interesting casual dining experience, I would recommend giving them a try. From previous visits I can recommend the following entrees: Asian Tuna Salad (favorite!) Oriental Vegetable & Cashew Stir Fry Potato, Cauliflower, Spinach, & Puy Lentil Dahl ... and I dream about the Hot Dutch Apple Waffle dessert (add a scoop of ice-cream and some pecans and it is even more blissful) Yum! *Tip: The food can be quite filling so if you are planning on ordering dessert after your meal, you may want to consider either eating the smaller sized entree or splitting your dessert with someone. P.S. They don't close during the "down time" between lunch and dinner like many of the other restaurants in the area which is great if you want a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. On one such occasion I found that a pot of tea and the Fresh Fruit Salad Waffle (with a pecan waffle subbed for the regular one... do you see a theme here?) made the perfect aforementioned pick-me-up :) P.P.S. For American readers - as you may have guessed, this restaurant is a lovely independent casual restaurant. It currently has only two locations in the UK. This was my normal breakfast spot, just a short crawl away from the popping Norwich Market. I have such fond memories of grabbing a window seat and watching the morning pass with a hot cup of tea. I was used to savory waffles in the States being a creole dish. Here they take on a more continental European flavor. Service is prompt and you can get out the door for less than ten quid! When I was studying in Norwich, this was my favorite place to hang out after an exhausting shopping trip to the city centre or the market place. I have eaten at the Waffle House several times. Once during s birthday celebration with a group of 15 people. They dealt with this very well I have to say. But my food experience there has only been average. Sure, the waffles are an interesting concept but it's not sufficient. The food that comes on the side has not been amazing, but just alright. I eat it, but it's not super tasty. In addition, they serve the same waffles for the main courses as for desserts. I would have preferred sweeter waffles for dessert. read more

I went to the Waffle House today with a group of ten (we booked ahead), and it worked out well. The staff was friendly and attentive. For under a ten-er, I got a "small" savory waffle (the feta and mozzarella: delicious) and a "small" desert waffle, and walked away feeling full and satisfied. Also, an important note for other students: 10% student discount. By far one of the best meals we had in England. Whatever dressing they put on that salad with grilled chicken - absolutely amazing! And the cooked mushrooms are some of the best I've ever had. Save room for dessert, but dear sweet tap dancing space monkeys, it is absolutely unbelievable. I had the special - brandied fruit, ice cream, chocolate sauce over a delicious waffle. We have been here a few times and always had good service and really enjoy the food. There is a good selection of waffles both sweet and savoury including veggie and gluten free options. The portions are on the large size so a small would b enough for most people and it is modestly priced. I love the selection of Norfolk cordials they have on the menu too alongside the usual soft drinks. read more

i like your waffles they're pretty good especially the bolognese one which is absolutley *chef's kiss*. but this one time i was there with my friend and we were right near the kitchen and a bee came down and landed on my head!! it wouldn't leave me alone and sat on my head for my entire meal and i was terrified. but then i made friends with the bee and gave it some syrup when it landed on my fork. overall an interesting experience but 10/10 would go again. read more

Good friendly restaraunt. Staff helpful with good service, nice relaxed atmosphere and really good food! Specials menu is always intriguing, as well as the normal menu of course. Overall, really good restaraunt, would defiently reccomend it! The Waffle House may be quite small but it is absolutely charming. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is really cosy inside. There's plenty of choice on waffles from sweet to savoury and it's not particularly expensive - though students with an NUS card can get discounts.
