    Pool at nighttime
    Matthew W.

This is my favorite hotel in Philly. They literally have the best outdoor pool open year round. I visit Philly frequently for business and will already be returning again soon. The W is my go to hotel because of the customer service, room views, and the pool. You also can't beat the amenities here and the location is great too.

I stay at many hotels for work this was by far my favorite! From start to finish I experienced excellence. From a seamless valet drop off to checking in. It was a long wait to check in due to everyone arriving at the same time but my room was available early and the wonderful women at the desk apologized and was very empathetic and kind! Traditionally, I am not greeted that way. I was offered a pool wristband if I wanted and thanked for being a silver member and was upgraded! During my stay I wrote little notes in my room to the cleaning staff. Cynthia even wrote me a note back welcoming me! I took wine out to drink and fell asleep when I came back it was in the refrigerator again at the perfect temperature for me to consume. I visited the front desk on my way out to request shower caps and the gentlemen had it sent to my room while I was out. Upon checkout I was running late Elena sent someone to retrieve my luggage while I left the room to attend a meeting. At checkout a team member partnered to find my luggage since I did not get a pick up card and asked about my experience and opportunities. I told her not a thing I just wish I booked another day to stay in bed or at the hotel to enjoy all it had to offer. I usually don't write hotel reviews but wanted to take the time to highlight all of the team members that I came in contact with that made my stay effortless! Modern hotel. I miss the pink pens. If you have any lying around I will gladly take them off your hands!

A most unusual collection of items for purchase lol

We had a nice stay at the W. We had read bad reviews about the valet parking, so we parked at a nearby lot and walked. It ended up being about half the price of the hotel valet so it worked out fine. Check-in was pleasant. We were given free welcome drinks and they were really good! Our room was on the 36th floor. Unfortunately we could not get in as the door was stuck. My husband went downstairs and the front desk person sent someone up immediately. After struggling for a bit we were able to get into the room. The room is very unique and interesting. The bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows. The room was fairly clean. The bathroom was okay, but the shower doesn't have a full door which was a bit unusual. Once the water got hot it was nice. We didn't watch TV since it was a short stay, but the TV was a nice size. There was a mini bar, and another drawer with some... interesting things for sale. Haha. The lobby was definitely loud and rowdy with a party atmosphere but it didn't disturb us at all. Checkout was done on my phone. It was a nice stay in a convenient location.

I liked this hotel, the common area was energetic, the gym space was upscale and clean. The room was nice too and a good view from the 47th floor. Although what I found peculiar is the bathroom door in the room didn't close, it was a sliding door with a big gap and no lock. Additionally the sink and faucet had an awkward design so water kept spilling everywhere lol.

I expected a stylish, well-thought-out experience from the W, but everything about my stay felt like an afterthought. My room design was just... odd. The bed was placed in the middle of the room--not against a wall--which made the space feel awkward. The bathroom didn't even have a door, just a curtain, and the shower setup was inconvenient. The only towel hook was outside the glass, so you had to step out dripping wet to grab it. I have attached a few pics because I am certain most will not believe my bathroom door was an actual curtain. Downstairs at the hotel bar, there wasn't a single TV--during the World Series and Monday Night Football, no less. The other bar attached to the lobby had one, but it was literally a TV on wheels they'd rolled in. The first night of my stay, Monday night, I stayed in my room since the other bar was closed, the one with the TV on wheels, because I wanted to watch the game. It sure seems like they would sell a lot more drinks if they provided a place where people could hang out and enjoy watching a game. I want to say something positive, it's challenging. My room service didn't happen until after 4pm each day I was there. I even called down at 8am the 2nd morning, and when I brought up room service, the gal immediately responded, "we clean the rooms of guests checking out first". I never even asked my question. She obviously knew what I was going to ask, but she definitely did not believe in the listening first approach. For a modern, upscale hotel, the overall vibe was strange and poorly executed. Definitely not what I expected from a Marriott property.

Very nice facilities and service except from Monica who was very rude. Someone else booked my reservation for me and they booked checkout for a day before. Someone who was not Monica said she made a note on my reservation that I would be switching rooms for the extra night and it appeared she'd said "Marriott gold member" to her manager right before, so I thought the matter was settled. Monica should not work in the service industry as she mishandled the reservation and situation, so I went to Hilton where they better serve Hilton Gold members. I would recommend the W Philadelphia for the facilities but highly recommend avoiding Monica.

The bar/lounge area is super chic and perfect spot to grab a nice cocktail. I love the expresso martini that comes with a cannoli. Perfect combo.

My girlfriend and I went to the W and the place turns into a live music nightclub at night. It was so busy. The live music wasn't good (like the singers werent the best) but I did like when they started turning on a mix of 90s/early 00s music. Even the bar was packed. There was a long wait just to have a table. I think people usually reserve the tables well in advance. My cocktail was pretty good as well. The decor in this place is interesting with its cool hanging lights. I also liked the secret room this place offers.

This review is for Living Room only. I came here to listen to live music. The artist was amazing and kept me enthralled in the music most of the time. Glad I reserved a table because there isn't a ton of standing room. The wine was great and sliders were good, but a bit overpriced. I was alone and met some interesting people. Overall, I'd return to listen to live music again!

Overall I think the W sits in a pretty specific niche, so if you prepare yourself for what it has to offer I think you'll enjoy it. IMO it's not for everyone, but if you understand the vibe you're gonna get and want that, then you will love your stay here. Keywords to describe the hotel's aesthetic: dark, moody, sexy, sultry, luxe, glam. Let me say first that the W is really kind of like a splurge location for couples or under-40 year olds who are going somewhere nice for a weekend or so. The appeal is really not for people who are traveling for work, but for pleasure. I think you could bring your kids but certainly think it's better suited to a girls weekend or a couples getaway. If you're here for work or with your family, I'd recommend the element hotel which is actually right next door in the same building. The location is in center city, so be prepared for a really busy street and lots of noise on the street and the lobby. The location is prime though so you'll be able to walk most places in the city from here which is great if you are coming from out of town and want to explore. The rooms are quiet but depending on how busy it is you may hear other people in the hotel. The restaurant dolce is very good and the bar seemed well stocked. The customer service is amazing. I think his name is Wesley who works the front desk, he set up our reservation and assisted us during our stay. When we switched over to the element hotel (the W sold out) he actually helped us over there too since they share a building! The restaurant workers were also super nice. The rooms themselves are beautiful. The aesthetic is definitely moody and sultry, so don't expect to be able to get work done/be productive - but that's not the point of your stay here! If you're staying here I would be relaxing and taking in the comforts. The bed is soft the shower is huge and the decor is really nice. There is a minibar in the room and snacks for sale (along with some items geared towards couples). I wish we could've stayed longer but they sold out the rest of our trip so we switched over to the element, which Id also recommend. The W is fantastic and we had a great stay. I'd be back.

Honey!!! Go here... this is my new favorite! Firstly, read my last review about the horrible experience I had in Atlantic City. After checking out, I drove down to Philadelphia bc I was completely turned off and wanted to have a resort style workcation. My cousins and a couple of friends recommended this hotel and upon walking in, it was a breath of fresh air and a true 5-star experience. The whole purpose of me going to Atlantic City was because I had located a heated rooftop pool. I had given up on the idea of finding one. I was ecstatic to learn that this hotel has a stunning, oasis style heated pool! Omg! I had a blast swimming... okay... now to the review. Decor, design, architecture, ambiance and attention to design detail was A-1! Service was exceptional... the food at Dolce, amazing! I can't say enough about this incredible hotel. Please treat yourself if you're ever in Philly!

I had a wonderful stay here. It was the same time when the Indianapolis Colts were in town and had taken over the hotel and it was very cool to see them everywhere. My room was not ready when I checked in and normally that would have been a turnoff. Not in this case. The lady at the check-in took me to the spa so I could change and use the gym while I waited for the room. Now that's what I call great service! My room was comfortable, modern and on the top floor with a nice view.

I needed a last minute stay in Philadelphia and I'm so glad I found the W. This hotel is not only beautiful but has everything you can need to have a relaxing stay. Not to mention it is a prime location of the city that is both walkable and safe, complete with great restaurants and various shops in the neighborhood. I loved the decor and overall ambiance of the hotel and thought the bed was beyond comfortable. I will definitely stay in the W the next time a need a place to stay in Philadelphia!

Ask the Community - W Philadelphia

Do they have a rooftop pool bar?

They have a pool and bar but its not completely on the roof...

Is there a shuttle to get to/from airport?

No shuttle with the hotel. There are other shuttle services at the airport.

How far from liberty bell? Can you walk?

It's 10 blocks away, easily walkable. Stop by Open House on 13th just south of Chestnut in the Gayborhood for the best philly themed gifts on the way back (you will prefer them to the tourist center).

Hi, are non-guest allowed to use the rooftop and pool if we plan to order drinks and food from the bar?

Yes they sell day passes which really brings down the supposed high-end experience. The police recalled many times in the last summer season because of non-hotel guests that were being abusive breaking rules and disturb disturbing other guests.

If you know me, I love sneakers, hip hop and everything that is the culture! The decor speaks specifically to Philly icons -- Will Smith, Meek Mill, The Roots, Jilly from Philly (Jill Scott), etc. Whoever was the interior decorator did a great job with honoring those icons and the hip hop scene. The restaurant inside the hotel was great too. I don't have any complaints besides the steep valet prices. I will visit again.

There's no Diamond Lounge here, which is totally fine -- the property makes up for it with thoughtful touches, great service, and a fantastic location that puts you right in the heart of the city. We were a party of 4 in two separate cars: one party paid for parking in advance as a 'ticket and parking' package. The other did not. We arrived about 11:30 am for a Sat matinee. Lot was rather full, but more, the spaces were very narrow, which seems to be the case more often. There are only two elevators, and they also are exceedingly small, holding 5-6 adults max-which is an issue when the shows end and everyone is queued up to leave. Our biggest issue was discovering that the prepaid parking expired at 4 pm. Since we were staying for a post ballet dinner, we asked and were told that we would simply need to pay for the 1 hour difference. If only it had been simple; but no. Besides the fact that the booth attendant had a friend inside chatting to the point that we needed to honk to get attended, the attendant had no idea what to do with a prepaid ticket holder who was attempting to leave past the allotted time. Their default was charge us $30 (the rate charged the car without the prepay), making it $30 for one hour. We declined to pay that as that was not the posted hourly rate...and had to sit for more than 15 min and only due to the exceedingly long trail of cars queued behind us did the attendant finally charge the posted hourly rate and allowed us to leave. I was pleased with the accommodations and the Hyatt Globalist benefits, and the customer service was excellent! I made the reservation quickly last minute to head to the Hyatt Centric Center City Philadelphia just before jumping in a rideshare to head there. By the time I arrived, I was informed that due to my Globalist status that I was upgraded into an Executive Suite with a king bed (in literally an hour or less since I made the reservation). Compared to a 234 square foot 1 King Bed Corner room, the Executive Suite with 1 king bed is 546 square feet. The Corner Suite, 1 Bedroom Suite, and Presidential Suite are all a bit larger, but I really felt that I had two rooms even though you could see from one part of the suite to the other easily. The decor was quite modern with floor-to-ceiling windows, a plush king bed, a chic sitting area with a sleeper sofa, and a modern bathroom with walk-in shower. There was also a 60" flat screen TV, blackout shades, mini-fridge, and more. I also took advantage of the Chromecast option to connect the TVs with your phone and also the comfortable robes while staying there. The hotel was in the heart of Rittenhouse Square with historic streets and nearby parks and restaurants. The front desk staff were most helpful and very friendly upon my arrival. As my toiletries and luggage were still at the airport and unable to be retrieved, I received samples of most toiletries upon checking in, and what they didn't have, they directed me to a nearby CVS. They also walked me through the Globalist benefits including the complimentary breakfast, that I was able to take advantage of at Patchwork Philly right on the same floor as the check-in. I did have to take an elevator up a floor from the entrance to get to the lobby, front desk, and restaurant. It was easy to navigate the hotel, and I felt right at home. I really like the World of Hyatt loyalty program, which you can read more about at https://world.hyatt.com/content/gp/en/program-overview.html. With each stay, you can earn points and redeem free nights starting at just 3500 points. There are many ways to redeem points, including free nights, suite upgrades, gourmet meals, experiences, and more. You can also get a World of Hyatt credit card which provides the first status level, elite qualifying nights, and bonus points along with a free night on your anniversary. When you reach the highest tier of Globalist, you receive late check out of 4 PM, guaranteed availability within 48 hours, welcome amenity at some properties, club access or breakfast, free parking on free nights, priority access to rooms, waived resort fees, bottled water, premium internet, and complimentary upgrades up to a standard suite. The bathroom was large, Bluetooth speakers around the mirror, and the room was perfect for our needs. We were on the 12th floor which gave great city views from our window. The hotel was on the smaller side which I prefer and overall, I would definitely recommend staying here. I'll be going back.

This hotel is a disgrace…read more We booked what was supposed to be a 2 queen room with handicap accessible shower. After checking in and being sent to the 15th floor with my wheelchair bound mother, I found the shower was not the "roll-in" shower we were promised. After venturing back down to the first floor the front desk person on duty (who bless him tried to be helpful) wasn't aware of what rooms were available that could accommodate us. He eventually put us in a suite on the 7th floor. Sounds like an upgrade right? Nope. After getting mom settled, and letting her shower, I realized there was only one bed. There was also a sofa bed. Greaaaaat. The sofa itself was filthy (see photos), and the mattress itself (see photos) was worse. I also tried to get a cup to get water to give to my mom to take her medicines and the cup (see photos, admittedly hard to see) looked like it had water staining on it. I've contacted Choice Hotels about this horrible experience, but haven't heard back. I did however get an email asking how my experience with Resolution Specialist MJ was. So that's nice, no one contacted me, and they pretended that they did (see photo). I don't know how this place is allowed to operate. Stay far away from this place. Far Far Far Away

We had a quiet king room (no city view). No fireworks noise, though you do hear street noise. The room was on the larger side of small, but everything felt dated: furnishings, curtains, headboard, phone, fixtures, linens, towels -- all very '90s, including the tub/shower combo. The carpet was dingy and it definitely needs a refresh (ask for slippers). Room service came in a bag instead of on a tray, which made eating for two a little awkward. We had our two small dogs with us, and while the hotel itself is very dog-friendly (which we appreciate -- it's why we usually choose Kimptons), the immediate area really isn't. It's busy, loud, and there's no grass nearby. Rittenhouse Square is a short walk away, but when it's 12° outside, that's not exactly a practical solution. Food was average, the postcard station is super cute, and overall it feels like a solid 3-star hotel where you're paying for the location and the staff more than the room itself.

I knew I was communicating with a real person who would be dedicated to ensuring my arrival would feel special. While I was there, I asked for a tour of the hotel and was guided by the director of sales and marketing who pointed out so many of the unique architectural details of the building. It was a lovely tour full of little moments of visual pleasure. The hotels located in Rittenhouse Square area and a comfortable walk to restaurants. Tonight I'll be dining on site and will update this review at a later point. THE GUESTROOM: The guest room is very comfortably appointed and considering it is a downtown city hotel, quite spacious with wall-to-wall windows that lead in natural sunlight, even on a dreary winter day like today. There's ample closet space and a comfortable writing desk with numerous ports for charging and Efficiency.

All of the best eateries are within walking distance to the hotel; and if that's too much, a lot of restaurants provide delivery via their own drivers or through third parties (i.e. DoorDash, UberEats, etc.). The higher floors present a great view of city hall. It's even better when it lights up green after an Eagles win. My room also had a comfortable king size bed and complimentary sweet treats and champagne. With that being said, it was not my favorite luxury hotel stay compared to other Ritz-Carltons. Driving up to the hotel was confusing as there were no signs outside for the main entrance and the valet team was nowhere in sight. Usually, they would approach the car to help with luggage, but once they appeared they stayed huddled together and I had to approach them with my luggage and car keys. Once inside with my car sorted, check in was slightly busy, but I was able to get to my room within 10 minutes. The room was clean and smelled great, but the hallway showed the building's age. Throughout my stay there were additional inconveniences. The bathroom had cheap toilet paper and loud plumbing. The shower wouldn't produce hot water, even at 4am, so I had to take warm showers. The walls are very thin. I could hear my neighbor on a business call at 7am, and I could hear people in the hallway. The only guaranteed quiet a guest would likely have is if they booked a suite and stayed in the room furthest away from the hallway. Last, the Fitness Center was at least 78°. There were two box fans that failed at circulating cool air, and my attempt to be active was very uncomfortable. I love Ritz-Carltons, but the low quality service and offerings felt like a Courtyard impersonating one of Marriott's luxury brands and it was very disappointing. Cheap toilet paper and box fans should not exist inside a Ritz-Carlton. If it weren't for the view and spacious room, my rating would be lower.
