This used to be a Safeway; then it became a Morrison's; now it's a Co-op -- so perhaps Qype can be forgiven for not listing this store correctly!
The values championed by the Co-op movement as a whole are thoroughly laudable, so any Co-operative supermarket has a head-start as far as I'm concerned. This particular supermarket doesn't seem to celebrate those values very overtly though -- which is odd as I would have thought they were very much a unique selling point.
Pickering's Co-op has an effective local monopoly, and this is reflected to a certain extent in its prices -- it's not the cheapest place to get your weekly shopping! The store also suffers from being small and cramped -- I'm sure most similar-sized towns around the place will have larger supermarkets than this. Choice is therefore rather limited.
But the staff always seem friendly and helpful, and the store is clean and appears to be well-managed. All in all, it's not a bad place to shop, but it does have its drawbacks. read more
