Extremely Disappointing Experience at Tesco Filey - Unacceptable Behavior and Treatment
I am absolutely appalled by the experience my family and I had at your Tesco store in Filey over the weekend. As a 49-year-old man, I have shopped at Tesco for many years, and I have never been subjected to such unacceptable treatment and blatant discrimination. I feel it is my duty to escalate this matter to ensure others are not subjected to the same frustration and unfairness that I encountered.
Let me set the scene. My wife, our 7-year-old son, and I were on a family holiday this past weekend, enjoying some well-deserved time away. My wife stayed in the car with our son, while I went into your store with her cousin, a 35-year-old woman, to pick up some groceries and alcohol. We had every intention of enjoying our time away, but unfortunately, your store ruined that experience for us.
The first issue arose when my wife's cousin, who is clearly an adult and 35 years of age, was asked for ID while we were still inside the store shopping. I am absolutely baffled at how your staff could possibly believe that a 35-year-old woman needed to show ID, and I can't help but wonder if this is a case of negligence or, even worse, discrimination. Your staff either need to go to Specsavers, or this is something far more sinister. What's even more concerning is that there was no reason given for the age check, which only left us feeling singled out and discriminated against.
However, the situation only worsened when I attempted to purchase the alcohol. I clearly explained that the alcohol was for my wife and cousin, but my request was met with a complete refusal. I attempted to solve the problem by offering to go and get my wife to make the purchase herself, but to my utter disbelief, I was told, "Don't bother, she won't be allowed to either." This is absolutely ridiculous. How can your staff refuse a purchase like that without any valid justification? Not only was this an embarrassment for me and my family, but it was also a clear violation of customer rights.
The sheer inconsistency and hostility of the situation were infuriating. I left the store feeling humiliated, disrespected, and with my entire family thoroughly disappointed by the poor treatment we received. The way we were treated was not only unjust but completely unfounded.
I am writing this review to stress my extreme dissatisfaction with the entire incident. It's clear to me that this level of service is neither acceptable nor representative of what I would expect from a large supermarket chain like Tesco. The lack of professionalism, the baseless refusals, and the humiliating experience have left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I sincerely hope you take this complaint seriously. If this is how your customers are treated in Filey, I will be strongly reconsidering my loyalty to Tesco moving forward.
I demand a formal explanation for this disgraceful behavior and treatment. I also expect to be informed of the measures being taken to prevent such incidents from happening again. No customer should have to experience this kind of stress and disappointment. I await your response and a satisfactory resolution. read more
