No call to even say "we're swamped, sorry for a delay" or to set a date. -1 star for them forgetting what we talked about with the estimate. I got 2 bids to lift up my front step and they were just pennies apart. The A1 guy who came to do my estimate told me he would be in charge of the job. The other company sent someone who just did estimates and they would send another guy to do the job. So I picked A1. I specifically talked to them about the wood trim we had on our front porch and how that would be handled when they lifted the step. We talked for quite awhile about it. When they came to do the job, they asked me for a wood saw. We don't have one as my husband is NOT a handyman. We save lots of money by paying other people to fix what I can't. Anyway, I called a few neighbors and nobody was home, so I left it up to him to figure out. He ended up approaching a neighbor as they got home and asking them for one. I didn't like that. He knew about this part of the job from when I talked to him about it and should have been prepared. Granted it was unusual, but we did discuss this when he did the estimate.

Had them fix a foundation crack and mud jack a large sinking stamped concrete step in the front of…read moreour home last spring. I was told that the mud jacking is guaranteed for 2 years. Well, this spring/summer we noticed the step sinking again and raising at the crack where they had mud jacked (and why we had them out) considerably. So both my husband and I tried contacting Brian with no return response. I guess a guarantee is only as good as the person willing to uphold the promise. Looks like we won't be getting it fixed by A1 Leveling.

The company painting the house referred us to Justin. I must admit that I wasn't happy with the lack of communication at first but once we got into contact with each other, it was all good. Justin did a great job replacing some of the siding. My house is old and he was able to make it look brand new. The painters had already completed that portion of the house and Justin made sure he painted the areas he replaced. He also noticed some of my foundation needed tuck pointing and he offered to do that for a fair price. I have other siding boards that will need replacing soon so I'll give Justin a call first.

We needed an estimate for some brick work in case a prospective buyer asked for repairs. Even though it was for work he was probably never going to do, Joe came out, spent some time with us and gave us a great estimate for the work needed. We were happy to offer gas money (and some yummy Christmas cookies) for his gracious time and expertise. We could tell by the way Joe was talking about our very old brick home that he knows his stuff and he is aware of the special way masonry homes on the South Side need to be treated. Do not trust Rod. We paid for the permit, but he did not complete the permit requirements until…read moreweeks after the job, and we had to appear at the county, and WE were fined $190. He showed us a stair on a former customer's wall, we agreed we wanted the stair, but the stair was not installed. When asked, Rod said 'I didn't charge you for the stair', another lie. His equipment broke the bark on a swamp oak and a maple tree. The worst of it was that he ruined two lawns. There is a 15' X 40' patch on TWO yards where the grass was destroyed. He dumped dirt and grass seed on both as a remedy, but now they are huge weed patches because he mashed down the underlying ground. We had to pay more than $2,000 for another contractor for more dirt and seed. Do not trust Rod with your property. No scruples. The attached shows what our lawn looks like two months after Rod ruined it. This was all solid grass like the areas on either side.

He did work in one day it was unplanned and called up the night before to tell me they were coming. Set 3 tiebacks and ran draintile in a hole he made to let excessive water drain to river. Worked without permit, County almost red tagged home. Permit was for topcoat, which you would think if a professional contracter offered it to you, he would tell you a permit was needed and it would be in the price for that additional service. 9 months later, the seawall blew out from 11 inches to 4 feet. Called him out to see what happened and told me he could fix it for 170% of the original repair he did that failed in that short time.
