I hired them to build a 16x20 ft paver patio in August of 2022, by the end of April 2023 the project manager told me there is not much more they could do to make the patio better and I had to pay them the full amount. Even though they claim to have many years of experience, the low quality of craftsmanship does not reflect their years of experience. The patio is not square and there are many visible gaps in between pavers making it an eye sore and everyone that comes to visit is always surprised to hear the amount of money I payed for the project. After signing, the first sign of trouble was communication was very minimal and hard to get any answers, but we knew construction companies were busy. We were told by Sean to email him example pictures of what we wanted to do and he would pass them on to the person who would be in charge of our job, named Eli. We emailed Sean pictures on 5/27/17 of what we wanted to do. After a few more weeks on June 19th, we finally got in touch with Eli, he asked me to email him the same photo's I had already emailed Sean. So I thought we finally might get the ball rolling on the job. Then, we weren't hearing back from Eli. Vulcan contacted us to let us know we would be working with a new person named Tomasi. We found out later that Eli left the company. Once we met Tomasi, things started moving along. At the end of June, they would pop over to the house in the evening to start prepping the space. On 7/5, they finished getting the space prepped and ready. but didn't remove the sprinkler heads, so we couldn't use the sprinkler system. Unfortunately, they couldn't give us a time when the concrete would be poured as 2017 was a busy year for construction. So for the next couple weeks we had to hand water and buy a sprinkler to water the lawn, which didn't work so well. Our nice yard slowly withered away. On 7/17, they came out to do finish the job and we were super excited. So we sat inside out of the way, watching the guys do their work. After some time, we realized there was a problem, a very big problem. Tomasi came to the door to talk and he let us know that the concrete was setting too fast and they couldn't finish stamping the concrete. He said they would be back tomorrow with a jackhammer and remove it all. We also found out that the guy they hired to pump in the concrete, drove a stake through our sprinkler system and that the sprinkler system was no longer working. On 7/18 Tomasi and his crew came over to remove everything. Luckily, we only had to wait a few more days for them to try again. On 7/21, they came out again and everything went smoothly. They came back a couple days later to take off the forms and when removing the forms, they broke off a large piece on the edge of the concrete. They said they would come back later to fix the issue. Then on 7/31, Tomasi came back out and fixed the sprinkler system (so we were without sprinklers for a month) but said he would have to come back to fix the concrete. It wasn't until early August that he came out to "fix" the concrete and what he did was just use quikrete which is not anywhere near the same color but said that was all he could do. When we met with Eric (one of the owners) for the final walk through, we showed him all of the issues. Rebar was left behind our fence, they dumped excess concrete at the end of the sidewalk (we have a corner lot), our yard was half dead due to no sprinklers (see before and after pictures of the yard), we had dead plants, concrete was not fixed properly, the concrete was never sealed as Sean said it would be. I told Eric I was not going to pay full price for a job with this many problems. He left and said he would be in touch on what was going to happen with all these issues. He called me back a few days later and we discussed the issues and he was dead set on us paying full price and I again said no way. We ended the conversation without an agreement and with none of the issues above being solved. So, I waited for a call to in regards to what was going to happen and that call never came. The rebar is still behind my fence, the concrete is still and the end of the sidewalk, I rehung the fence properly, and the concrete was never fixed and later that year, it developed a pretty long crack. I never heard from Eric again and we continued on with our lives. Then 3 years later I get a call on 4/22/20 saying we owe them money. We agreed to give them $1200 just to get them out of our lives (even though we are both on unemployment). HORRIBLY RUN COMPANY! Review would be more thorough if there wasn't a character limit. read more

PERFECT! From start to finish, we couldn't be happier with our Vulcan experience. We hired Vulcan to do a complete overhaul of our yard and everything exceeded our expectations! Our project consisted of demo, pavers, turf, and construction of an Apollo shade cover. Jeremy, Cody, and Hector were the point guys for our project and they were all so responsive, kind, and professional throughout the entire process. The carpentry and hardscape teams were very talented, capable, and respectful of our home. The "job site" was cleaned up at the end of each day - a small detail but we appreciated it very much! I actually was NOT contacted by the owner to say nothing could be done. I was originally told by both the owner (via phone and email) that he would get back to me after Billy, a project manager, came out to see the work done on my deck. I was told by Billy that the manager assigned to the original job was no longer with the company and that they actually had many warranty requests as a result of the work that man oversaw. He agreed that many things were not done well, took photos of my deck, and then said I would be contacted by the owner once he discussed what he saw with him. I waited over a week for a reply and when I didn't receive any response, sent a follow up email asking the status of Billy's visit to my home. There was never any reply to my email or any follow up received at all. That lack of communication to even own up to the shoddy work done by someone hired and then later no longer working for Vulcan is the reason for the 1 star review. My family's reason for even going with Vulcan was the assumption that a veteran-owned company would do right by a disabled vietnam veteran (my father) and would have provided a safe build (the first time around), quality workmanship from the start and prompt communication in the end. Just very disappointing to then be told in this review that I was contacted with a response when indeed I was not. read more

Once communications were straightened out, they were wonderful to work with. Professional workers, nice finished product. These guys are just the nicest people! Though they primarily do outdoor work, they remodeled our kitchen and laundry room. It turned out fantastic! This was no move the furniture job either. They had to gut the whole thing from the ground up, call in experts on sewage removal, rewire and plumb the whole thing, helped us through the counter top, paint, flooring picks. Amazing the hoops they jumped through to get the job done! And the best part is they stayed right on budget! Even with me changing my mind on a few things! Excellent job and completed within promised time frame (they actually were able to work me in a week earlier than initially planned). Mine was a small job (replacing leaning pillars with new ones plus some chimney work) but of the 5 estimates I sought out, Vulcan's was the most logical and professional. There had been some confusion about the size of the new pillars, and Vulcan righted the situation agreeably and promptly. The work was extremely well organized and executed, starting with the initial designer consultant Luciene and followed with Scott, my project manager contact person. They demo'd my existing deck and replaced it with pavers. The crew was excellent, hard-working, answered my questions. They replaced a beam on the overhang which was an add-on and they did that for a very reasonable price. I'm happy with the project my outdoor area looks great. My wife and I had considered and discussed different items for our backyard which would give us the best and functionality and design. After seeing a backyard in Portland Oregon with a beautiful paver stone design we decided to call Vulcan Design. Vulcan design came over and met with my wife and I. Jami took our ideas and did a layout sketch for us to see how it would look on paper. We were very pleased and decided to go ahead with the project. Valentine and his brother started the backyard after approximately four weeks and worked very clean and diligently each day. The outside edge of our patio was to have a fire pit involved and my wife had made changes to move it away from the house. I called Eric on the phone and he came over right away, we came up with a better plan for a beautiful circle pad with fire pit and sitting wall. Wow it really finished the project. We have a two level patio with a step down to the lower level with the fire pit and circle pad on the top right end between the patio and a beautiful path approximate 7 feet long. We have sent pictures to family and friends and Ellie posted on Facebook with the finished project. We can't wait to have Family and friends over for the first barbecue and fire. I chose Vulcan for a big project in my backyard last summer. The designer was wonderful and very responsive. I was told they were busy and would start my project in Sept. I was told the job would take a week or two.That's when the communication became awful. Calls were unreturned or I got answers that someone would call me and it didn't happen. The job finally started in Oct. and finished before Christmas. Many days someone would work a few hours and leave and on many other days no one showed up. The Project Manager told me he was managing over 20 other jobs. He had no clue what was happening on mine. Here is the big problem with Vulcan: The people who actually do the work are various small contractors rather than employees.No one from Vulcan monitors the job on a daily basis and as a result when things go wrong or there are questions, there is no accountability. A very frustrating job and I would not use Vulcan again. read more

Initiated a job in October which was scheduled in for January '18 however in the meantime, we changed our mind and told them we wanted to cancel. It took several weeks but received the refund which was way more than expected. Their communication may need a little work but otherwise, I'd hire them again in a minute. Great folks with big hearts and much talent. We met this company's representative at the Clark Cty fair. Their display was great. We called and scheduled an estimate for a paving project. We ended up scheduling with them even though we had to wait through the busy sumner season. Once they scheduled a crew to come and do the work it was pretty seamless and they did a great job. Our project manager was great and very informative. Always available for questions. It was worth the wait! Also costwise; a tad more than some others but well worth it for the service. We hired Vulcan Design in late spring of 2017 for an outdoor patio, fireplace and water feature as well as replacing a side fence. The fence was taken care of fairly quickly to my delight. The rest of the project which was quoted to take about 3 months took about a year to complete. Communication with them is horrible at best as they would rarely return calls, emails or texts unless I got very upset! They seemed to be over busy and spread thin, not being able to keep up with their jobs. The pump in the water feature quite working after three months of use and come to find out they do not stand behind it. I replaced the pump on my own since I have experience with their lack of communication. Again all communication back from them stopped when I asked if they would stand behind their installations. On a good note, the outdoor area is beautiful so I will give them that. read more

I love my new out door living space. Wish I could send a picture. After 3 different quotes we chose Vulcan Design. Started the back yard project and ended on the date we agreed on. Communication was very good. We had patio pavers added to extend the patio, a raised gravel area with small wall to add a green house, plumbing for future hot tub, cement along side the driveway to add more parking and a rectangular gas fire pit. There were other contractors involved, wiring and gas works. They took care of it all. After contacting several gutter companies and never getting a gutter replaced, Vulcan took care of that for me too. Above and Beyond. Quality work. Vulcan just replaced a rotting, following over retaining wall with stone. They stayed on budget and timeframe, even with the horrible weather we were having. The crew worked 8 hours a day. Everything had to be dug out by hand and gravel abd bricks placed by hand. There was no access to get more than a wheelbarrow in. They were wonderful to work with, respectful, hard working and surprisingly cheery. read more

We had a paver patio installed by them about a year ago. They were more expensive than most, but supposedly had superior quality work and a lifetime warranty. Initially the work looked great. A little while ago we noticed some sinking and cracked pavers and called them to schedule some warranty work. Over the past three months, I have called them no less than 15 times and left messages with the receptionist. I have yet to even receive a call back. At this point I am beyond disappointed and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

This company has very poor communication skills. We have had complaints from the beginning. We found this company at the home and garden show April 2018 in Portland. Work looked fabulous. We filled out forms to try and win a project for our backyard slope we have. Company called a month or so later to try and earn our business by stating they would love to come out for an estimate. They scheduled the day after 4th of July to come out. The guy that was supposed to show up calls after the time he was scheduled to be at our home and still sounded intoxicated from 4th of July and had to reschedule for the next day apologizing stating he would give us a good deal (should have been a red flag for us). The guy came the next day and he was late again but we allowed him to proceed with the estimate. My husband and I stupidly agreed to have this company work on our terrace garden with a stair case next to it. We assumed that blue prints/drawings of the project were just a starter idea and that the project manager knew what we wanted and had agreed upon (figured he took good notes to share with the crew). There was no communication as to when products would be delivered or work would be done. I had to call and email several times to find out when our project would take place with no real certainty. One day we came home and material was delivered out of the blue. I had texted one of the employees after almost a week to say hey materials are delivered when work will be started. His reply was oh materials are there? I didn't know. When work was actually started no one was informed and when we came home to see the work we had steps going to the middle of nowhere with a 6ft drop (their excuses were well that is what the drawing shows and 2nd was we were informed you were going to make a pathway below; Which was our idea but a 6ft drop to the ground? Who wants to just jump 6ft to the pathway? No one bothered to ask or say hey you really want it like this?) After making another complaint we then had to have them add more stairs so they wrapped around our deck rather than being really steep and touching the dirt as originally planned since the work had already been done with no question. Then I stupidly made the mistake stating if they had better ideas for this project let me know as they guys working on the project acted as if they couldn't do the original plan which was a garden bed on top, bench in the middle with a path, and a garden bed below. I kept asking for visuals and only got drawings as I was expected to know how to read a blue print while my goal was to cover a dirt slope and make sure the garden bed was close to our fence so there was no gap (which has been expressed over and over from the beginning). It was brought up that maybe we should do a lower deck instead. I thought this was a good idea but all I got was a small platform with lots of exposed dirt. Communication was not working so we requested the project manager Eric to come out where he stated he didn't know what his employees were doing (whom didn't seem like he was overseeing the project very well). Not once did anyone in between state hey is this exactly what you want or hey there is a big dirt gap does the owner really want this as it doesn't look appealing? Project manager stated he would get the project right for us. We got our 2 terrace gardens with a bench below as we had to change/maneuver the orig plan to look over our creek but there was a huge gap still between the fence and top garden bed. Work had been done so we complained and stated maybe just put a bench at the top to close the gap between the fence and top garden bed so at least I could put some decorative planters on it. So the guys came out again with no call after several weeks mind you of no communication or informing us that they would be there to work. I texted Eric and complained again. My husband called and stated Steve whom was at our house unexpectedly wanted to talk to me to make sure we were on the same page. Said they were there to create a bench like the one below the garden beds; I said great as long as it fills the gap between the fence and the upper garden bed. He stated yes. I come home and there is a bench but still a gap. I texted the picture to Eric and complained yet again and next thing we get a call stating this and that and how we are in the wrong and how much labor they have put in and basically want more money but all in all communication has been sour from the beginning. This project started early September and it is now almost January. I will never refer this company out for business. read more
