Oddly enough we stayed at this property before and had problems with ants in the kitchen, grill would not heat, awful view of ugly empty lot and trashy neighbor house with mattresses on the veranda. I booked a trip for my family and later received an email for the host cancelling. I was told I would receive a refund within 10 days. I never received the refund so I contacted Vrbo. They said they could not help me. I tried filing with the insurance I purchased through Vrbo but apparently that does not cover anything if the host cancels or goes out of business. Vrbo kept their fees, the insurance kept their fees and the host kept their money. And no one wants to help with this at all. Hit or miss. Have stayed in 5 VRBO houses of varying quality. However, last stay was at 21288 Edgewater Dr,, Port Charlotte, FL 1/1/24. House had a musty odor and the smell did not attenuate through the night (black mold?). Called VRBO at 6 a.m. next morning to complain. Agent was very accommodating, but offered no resolution and advised to email owner, which I did. Owner never responded. Again, contacted VRBO. Again, very accommodating on the phone, but offered no resolution to the problem. Did not return that evening, and stayed the remainder of my time in a nearby motel. VRBO, owner and my credit card company refused to refund $1,929.56. Do not use VRBO, because sooner or later you lose big with this organization. Reported them to Florida attorney general's scam office. Suggest anyone else snookered by them, do the same. VRBO customer service is horrible. Avoid using them if possible. I recently stayed at one of their listings. They allowed the host to charge my card after I checked out with no explanation. I have spent 30 days trying to get answers and just keep getting the run around. Then they rejected my review of the property. Suspiciously this property has no reviews despite being listed and available for more than a year. I suspect they made some arrangement with the host. VRBO does not have the guest best interest in mind. Avoid them if possible and definitely do not give them your credit card info. And do not book with host that have no reviews. read more

We rented on Nantucket - Nevermoor- the woman kept most of the deposit (2500) because 1) we used too many sheets (we told her we had 10 Guests and then she lied and said we didn't - I have proof thru email with her) and an extra night that she originally comped AND the rate was HIGHER then the rate we paid for the rental! If I could give this venue 10 stars, I would. We were in La Quinta, in a gated community. The townhouse/condo was very spacious, tastefully decorated with beautiful furniture. The kitchen was filled with every A-1 appliance one would ever need. It had 2 large bedrooms and 1 smaller one plus 3 bathrooms, showers plus tubs! We played many board games on the large dining room table while celebrating 4 family birthdays. They even remembered I was celebrating my 80th birthday and had a framed card wishing me Happy Birthday! It was such a personal and special touch!. There was plenty of room for our 4 families. We enjoyed one of the many pools & spas and actually had them to ourselves. The location was at the foot of the mountains, giving us a gorgeous view for pictures. It was one of the nicest places I have ever stayed in. Vrbo was in constant contact with me, and we were always informed of all requirements. The only negative comment we all made was that our stay was just too short!! We plan to go back again and again! read more

I had no idea that negative VRBO reviews were not posted. I found that out too late from a family member. I was able to leave a 2 star review but not explain anything which allowed the owner to come back and say things like "wish you had reached out while you were there so that we could have addressed the issues". My husband, son and myself booked a getaway to Miami for the week of Thanksgiving. My husband's cousin invited us to celebrate Thanksgiving with them (in Lakeland - 4 hours away), so I booked an apartment for that 1 day and night. We left Miami, while driving to Lakeland, I realized I heard nothing from the host. I contacted her, to be informed my booking was not confirmed, and the location was occupied. Now I had already paid, and received confirmation from this very host, and I told her as such. She asked me to send her proof, I tried to call her, her number was not working. I called VBRO immediately. The rep' I got was very nice, very helpful. He too tried to reach the host, but had similar issues with her phone. He told me he was going to escalate my matter, to make sure I got refunded. Made sure we were at the legal check in time(4pm), before labelling it a 'no go'. He then advised I find other lodging. So here I was, on the road, with my family, on Thanksgiving, with nowhere to stay! I know my husband's cousin would have had us stay with them, but they already had 32 people at their house. I found a hotel room. The next day I was contacted, to find out what happened. And this is when this got bad. It was like pulling teeth! I had to provide ALL the documentation, even my message with the host, to prove I was wronged. DAYS of back and forth! Then in 1 email. I was told they'd refund my hotel stay. Good news is. I got my refund for the lost stay, but when the time came for them to refund the hotel stay. I was told to provide proof of when I was informed of such. Thank God I still had the email. I sent it, you'd think that would be enough...NOPE! Was told since my hotel was cheaper than the place booked, they would not refund. So if it were more expensive they would have?! Well, no to that as well. I was told the email was 'not what they meant' and if it were slightly more expensive they would have refunded. Hey VBRO...then why not say that in the email then?! VRBO is providing false information regarding rentals. All fees are not included ( like pool heat) and booking criteria are not correct. we tried to book a property in Palm Springs CA. The criteria was a minimum of 29 days. We booked for 38 days. The property was listed as available. We were rejected as the property owner responded they wanted a longer rental like 60 or 90 days. VRBO lacks very basic site functionality like a keyword search on property descriptions. So instead of easily searching for a property that includes "Secluded" for example, you get the privilege of clicking on each of the hundreds of search results one by one and reading each one, which is just idiotic. I couldn't believe they didn't support a simple keyword search so I contacted VRBO support (phone and online chat) about this. The online chat techs were utterly incompetent. The first one couldn't even understand why this was an issue, another offered to help find a property and couldn't so they just sent me their basic 'how to' instructions then hung up on me. I called into the phone support and was flatly told they don't deal with enhancement/feature requests and aren't even allowed to tell me how to request one or so much as give me a company address to write to. VRBO asked me twice to review a traveler who never stayed at my property. They told me I needed to list the beds and sizes in the bedrooms when it was already there. Booked a trip most of a year in advance through Expedia/Vrbo for the first time. Silver Salmon Apartment in Anchorage. Received confirmation and the money (lots of it) went through. Confirmation said you're all set. 2 months later tried to increase the booking to 4 people from 2. It was a two bedroom apartment so should be no problem, but couldn't access the communication with the apartment owners or property manager either on the computer or on the app. Called Expedia/Vrbo and they couldn't either but said they would work on it. 2 days later got a really snotty email from the property about not fulfilling the secondary contract????:?didn't know there was one, and our booking was cancelled. Sent a reply outlining the communication problem and now that we could communicate I would send what they need. Got an even nastier reply and then they blocked all communication. Vrbo has processed the cancellation and are going to work with the host property. Don't book SILVER SALMON APARTMENT in Anchorage. This is not the first bad review for this place. We arrived in Vegas only to find that the house we rented was canceled by the owner! We drove from Utah. We're exhausted and we still haven't been taken care of after 3hrs on the phone! The house we rented was 4300 Via Vaquero Ave and the host is Albert Li according to Vrbo. So frustrating and disappointing! To drive all this way for a convention and be told they canceled our booking at 1:45pm the day we were to start our stay! I would think there should be a bare minimum of 24hrs notification!! I booked a vacation home with VRBO on 5.6.22. Our trip was scheduled 7/5-7/8/22. The host contacted me on Monday 7/4 via email, to let me know the home was no longer available. I was not given an option of another home for the 3 days, but would have to move home within 3 days. I did not accept, and asked for a refund. I was outraged that a host could cancel without valid reason, the house had "issues", and I was left to find new accommodations. I contacted VRBO immediately, and they did absolutely nothing. They opened a case, asking me to copy and paste emails, never offering to call the host and find out what happened. Upon return, I still did not have my money refunded. I contacted them on 7/8, and again on 7/12. All they would tell me is I had to wait the full 7 business days, and that there more cases in front of mine. Finally I contacted the host, to find out he did not process my refund, and now I would have to wait until the end of the week. Once again, VRBO had no clue he did not refund my money. It was probably a longer, more lucrative reservation and he did not want to forego the money. I have used Vrbo for years and enjoyed every experience until this week. Something in the corporate customer service has changes drastically. I recommend not using this platform. It started with a simple concern that the property owner had not (still has not) contacted me after multiple attempts over at least 2 weeks. I have a trip to DC scheduled for late January (this week). Given the pandemic and political issues, I reached out to the owner. After failed attempts, I then reached out to Customer Service. Having good experiences in the past, I expected to be helped expeditiously as always. I was told I had to cancel through the Insurance I purchased. That was fine. I went to do this and I was told that my reason for cancelling was not covered so no refund to rebook. I was sent back to Vrbo Customer Service. I was then told to reach out to the owner again. Which I did. No response. I was told by Customer Service they would also reach out, and if there was no response by Monday I could get help rebooking. It is now Monday, 2 days before I arrive and I was just told I have to get on the plane arrive at the house, and if the owner is still not responding, they will help me at that point. Regardless, they are keeping my $3,200+. I'm sure there is fine print covering the company's tail regarding these issues planted discreetly throughout the website, but this new way of doing business boils down to giving no real service, displaying misleading information, and making a sales under false pretenses. As of this morning there was a specific COVID-related pop up with verbiage that said if you need assistance with cancelling during the pandemic, to call Customer Service. It seems to have been removed. It was definitely there what I booked and has been throughout my inquiry process this past week. I have also had 3 calls to customer service dropped after very long holds. I then noticed that my cell phone I was calling from went to a HomeAway line that said my call could not be connected, but when I called from another line, I got to the original Customer Service line again. Warning: Do not use VRBO. I booked a condo for Labor Day weekend. I received a notice that the host double booked his property. He told me to request a cancellation and would refund 100% of my money and it would be released same day. Cool. No problem. Well, the property owner only refunded part of my money. So, after 20 mins on hold, the customer service rep at VRBO finally figured out how to do a full refund. Great. Well, then, he tells me that it's going to take 5-7 days to show up. Ummmmm.... McScuse me? You're going to hold my money for 5-7 days? I tell him over and over that someone at that company has the authority to void a transaction, thus giving me my money back immediately. Nope. Refused. So, because they messed up, my $600 is being held from me for a week. Most people do not have an extra $600 laying around. I need to book a condo and can't do so until they release my funds. Not ok. From what I'm reading, this is common with VRBO. They take your money instantly, but take their time refunding it.
