We hired then to build our house in Boone, NC. After signing our contract the owner hooked up with a developer of larger houses in Banner Elk and moved out of Blowing Rock to Banner Elk. out house was then put us on their low priority list, Our house was less than 5,000 square feet and was about 1/2 of all the other houses that VPC started in BE. We were initially promised a one year completIon with adequate staffing to make that deadline. The house was not complete at the end if year two. The crew sizes initially promised were cut cut in half for every phase and the B team showed up rather than qualified workers. The resulting construction was terrible. The rear deck which is move than 20' above grade was not bolted to the house and did not have diagonal braces. The main center three ply support beam that held the majority of the weight of the house separated within three months because it was not bolted together. We had to hire another company to finish the job. These are just a few on the many, many shoddy, poor quality aspects of their work. We would definitely caution anyone to be wary and would not recommend VPC Builders to anyone. read more

We have used VPC for 2 different remodels on our home; first with our kitchen and living room and most recently, the primary bathroom and closet. Despite the challenges associated with Covid and Supply issues, they have done an amazing job in actually beating original schedule. Morgan, our Project Manager and Matt, job site supervisor have been amazing at keeping the workflow on schedule and providing regular updates. After daring to question the 20k I was quoted over the phone to re-tile a 3 piece bathroom with absolutely NO ONE even looking at my project...I received this message: " I was able to talk to the project management team to see where we were with scheduling and capacity. I apologize but we are not able to take on any new projects or clients. This month we signed some really big proposals - we aren't sure at this time when we will take on new clients but for now we are not accepting new clients or projects. Cara Dehen Communications Coordinator" As anyone can see; THEY ARE AT CAPACITY AND NOT ACCEPTING NEW BUSINESS-they apparently feel they can name their price due to supply shortages... We worked with VPC to build our new home over the last couple of years. We are extremely satisfied with the overall process as well as the outcome. From the very first phone call with Matt Vincent, the owner of the company, we felt very solid with our decision to sign on with VPC. His professionalism and high standards are exhibited throughout the entire staff. Everyone we worked with was respectful and dedicated, yet always approachable. Special kudos to Chris Johnson and Jake Smith, our project management team, for their personal commitment to getting the project done right. Their flexibility and creativity in working with us to develop solutions to unexpected challenges allowed for a better result. VPC does a great job of cross training everyone so that an unexpected absence or leave time does not derail the project timeline. We called VPC (among other builders) to build out our mountain home. Compared to the other builders I contacted, here is what I was really impressed with: 1. The first phone call into VPC did NOT go into voice mail. There was an actual person on the other end who answered the phone, took down all the information, and told me she would get back to me. A few days later she did get back to me with some additional information and asked for some additional information so that she could set up a time for me to talk to Matt Vincent (who I did not realize at the time, but is the owner). Understandably, they were really busy and it took me several weeks to connect with Matt. 2. They are a custom mountain builder and some of their work was just beautiful. I found these on their website and used that to get ideas in terms of what I wanted. 3. They have a team of employees that have worked with them for a long time, so they can control the construction process better. It helps that they have a couple of offices in the Blowing Rock and Banner Elk where you can meet. 4. Matt was very professional. He did not over promise but was honest and frank with what he could do and could not do. In cases where he did not know, he said he did not know but would get back to me. And here is the kicker - when he said he would get back to me - he GOT BACK TO ME. I did not have to chase them down with phone calls and emails. They were accountable to themselves and that to me was the most impressive trait. An honest commitment to the client and client satisfaction. I felt that every step of the way Matt wanted to do what was right for our project and was very communicative. Also, it appeared they had their build out process down to a science from how they source the project, cost it out, start the build out, to all the customizations required. They know what they are doing. Now just as a reminder, at this point I was not a client, just a potential client. VPC was really busy and they really did not need me as a client. But all the effort put in by this team for my project was truly appreciated by me and spoke volumes about what they are all about. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we could not use VPC. I really had my heart set on using a builder who knew what they were doing; put the client interest first; was honest; was dependable; and stuck to any promises they made. VPC was that builder. But for now, know that I have had a lot of experience with really awful contractors, and really good ones. VPC, I believe is one of the really good ones. We moved from Southport, North Carolina to Banner Elk to live in the mountains. We were somewhat astonished to learn that the high-end construction process was much different than that of Southport or Raleigh where we had retired. Whereas in those markets, the cost of a house build was relatively clear upfront during the home design/selection process, we found out quickly a different story in Banner Elk. Most builders we interviewed all talked in general terms but understandably stopped short to spend too much of their time and energy without some commitment. As a result, most prospective homeowners must rely on 'feelings' or 'instinct' resulting in a leap of faith decision. We interviewed several builders and Matt Vincent (VPC Builders) was hands down way above the others. His genuine personality imparted an immediate comfort and made such an impression we knew we had found our builder especially in light of this new Banner Elk building process. Much like Matt himself, his staff is so easy to work with and quite flexible always looking out for our best interest at the smallest detail. We are approximately 75% through our build and we can't say enough. We highly, highly recommend VPC. read more

After contacting numerous builders and getting the run around we received a return call back from VPC the week after Christmas. We spoke with the office manager who took notes on our project and we left it that she would call us back very soon with an appointment to see our project. It is now the end of February and I hadn't received any further communications from VPC. I called and left a message to call me regarding our 2 month old conversation. I got no phone call but received an email stating that they were now scheduling months out for appointments but maybe we could have a cancellation appointment. As we live 2 hours away from the project site that was out of the question. The email was basically a form letter they would send out to anyone making an initial contact. Not an email someone who had already discussed a project and who was expecting an appointment to view it should receive. She said she dialed a number that rang busy but mysteriously responded via my email address (which I had given in December) when she couldn't get me on the phone. She had not attempted to contact me in the last 2 months and would make no scheduling exception for her mistake. A builder like this is one who would likely stall your build for a higher profile/profit one if they so decided in my opinion. I will chalk this up to our typical experience with most mountain builders and at least 100% of the builders we have had experience with. We have a historic home and this project would have been very high profile and we have many friends moving to the area from Charlotte to build or renovate second homes and who look to us for recommendations for trades as we've been established in our town for over 5 years. VPC finished an attic space for us during the winter months of 2016. They did an excellent job of transforming a difficult space into an adorable dollhouse for the grandkids. The house was vacant but they were totally trustworthy and cleaned up so well, you would never have known any contractors had been working for months.
