We just discovered Vortex Hobbies after my son broke a small part in his Traxxas RC truck. Over the phone they assured us they would be able to help us locate the new parts necessary to fix the truck. They also informed us they charge an hourly fee for service. It took them only 5 minutes to locate the part and they even fixed it free of charge bc it only took about 5 more minutes. The store is clean and well-organized and full of so many RC vehicles and airplanes and parts. The staff is knowledgeable and nice. read more

On both visits I've made to the shop, I talked to employees who weren't even working that day; they just came in to shop for their own machines and offered to help. What?! I love that they're avid supporters of their own products and the customer service was fantastic. On our first visit, we talked with a guy who was able to tell us all the variables-- two wheel drive versus four, different battery options, etc. He seemed aware of different purposes for each, cost considerations, possible future upgrades. We noted that we were buying a first RC car for a six-year-old and he used his own experiences with his kid to give us a frame of reference. It was a lot of information with seemingly no particular drive to push us in a given direction. When asked, he would offer his own preferences, but also noted the circumstances which led to the preferences. I had no idea there was so much in the RC world (unaware girlfriend). The second guy grabbed everything my boyfriend had texted to me, including an extra cord we would need, offered the color choices, and I was on my way in no time. Friendly, helpful, did I mention he was not even working that day? He just offered a helping hand to a girl with a confused face. On my way out, he pointed out another guy coming in-- an employee on a day off. It feels like an RC community even more than a store, and it reminded me exactly why I go into shops instead of ordering online. read more

I've never flown a remote control air plane before. I went in and Jody helped me. He was really friendly and patient as I asked my 100 questions. He told me about all the starter planes and the pros and cons of each as well as just flying remote control planes in general. He let me use their simulator so I could get the hang of flying using the controls before I actually fly my plane. I'm really glad I did because I crashed the simulator several times before I got the hang of it. I didn't shop around but the price seemed to be what I expected. read more

Mostly an RC shop...for now...I'm told that they're over doubling their current space, which will allow for a much greater influx of model kits, such as cars, tanks, planes and so on, which is where my primary interest lies. As it is, they're a touch on the light side currently. If you're into RC vehicles, though, this would be an excellent place to check as there is a ton of stuff for that side of things. Staff, like nearly every hobby shop I've been into, is exceedingly friendly. These guys also have some sort of rewards program also, which can definitely be useful. Looking forward to their move, which will probably see this rating go higher. read more

After a dismal experience at RC Planet, the Vortex team was absolutely spectacular. The service team helped teach my boys how to take their Traxxas cars apart, fix the broken struts and engine pieces, and get us back on the road. What an absolutely fantastic experience. This is a great store. It has a great selection of every thing. I went in looking for rc airplanes and was very surprised at the selection they carry. They have a very large selection of rc planes, cars , boats, and drones. They also have trains, rockets, plastic model's and items for hobbies l hadn't thought of. The staff were very helpful and friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were comparable to what I've been looking at on line. I will definitely be back for more items. read more

The guys there are very knowledgeable. They know there stuff. They didn't have a dominator goggle that I wanted sold the same day I got there. So I ordered one online and the fatshark battery was DOA which pissed me off for the money I spend. Went to vortex to get a charger since my (I ordered online) IMAX b6 mini took a poop and it's not even a month old. Got me a Hitec x2 which works great or better thanks the IMAX and check this he even had a battery for the fatshark that I needed. Lesson learned stick with your local hobby store "vortex" at least they aren't understaff or have people that lack the experience with all your addictions I'll definitely go back for more since they'll be seeing a whole lot of this noob read more
