I have been shopping at this Vons for at least 20 years. Let's start of by saying that it is not half as nice as other Vons especially the one in Mission Hills. They have had an inside renovation which was in dire need so I very much appreciate that. The problem I have more recently is with their shopping carts. I'm not even exaggerating for at least the last 6 months I have called corporate and complained to store manager Warren and the supervisor as to why they have maybe 10 to 15 carts. How is this possible? If you want to shop here and need a cart you have to literally search the parking lot for one. They blame it on the homeless but Mission Hills has homeless encampments too. But it's funny because Vallarta and Food 4 Less doesn't have this problem. Vons you need to treat your customers with respect and get carts with locks if you have to. I live in a very nice neighborhood up in the foothills this is not the ghetto as according to the manager Warren he had to move out of Sylmar that was his answer. Very sad with the amount of money I spend there I don't like they care. May to start shopping elsewhere. read more

I've been to every single Vons/Pavillions in the SFV and this one is definitely up there considering the area. They stock a fairly good selection of beer and as other people have said, they have a pretty good deli. Buying a fresh loaf of bread and some deli meats is always a good choice if you plan on going somewhere and want to save some money by bringing your own food. read more

Prices here range from average to expensive. They do have a club card that can knock down the price but nothing phenomenal. The staff is usually friendly. The store is somewhat cramped and small. The lines are normally long. The parking lot is a mess. Overall They have great organic products but other stores are starting to catch on to this trend. I come here mainly for convenience but I do not recommend doing the majority of your shopping here. Tip Decent liquor prices, almost comparable to Food 4 Less. read more

The best thing about Vons is that they offer easy ATMs. This is the most convenient place to deposit my paychecks and thus I usually do a little shopping here while I'm there. The clerks are always nice and every purchase I've made ended with one of them addressing me by my surname. They are high on customer care here! read more

I have been into this Von's a few times - it's not my regular store, but go there from time to time when I'm in Sylmar for business. What I've come to realize about my overall experience here - is that i prefer to drive 17 min. out of my way to the La Crescenta store. If I'm going to spend the same dollar for dollar amount in a store that is well-lit, well-stocked, fresh, and up to code - why do it in Sylmar where it doesn't, in any way, look or feel appealing? Wish the chain would put money into giving this place a makeover. Would give employees and managers there a sense of pride. Right now it's just worn down. read more

I really like their deli sandwiches, much different than subs or quiznos... In a good way. There is one table near the lotto ticket dispenser, so this is more of a to go deal. This is my fave thing about this specific vons, otherwise it's nicer than all the other places in the vicinity and way more expensive. Note wells fargo ATM always a plus read more

I love how this Vons is listed as a $$$ grocery store. I never thought about it, but I guess it can rip you off sometimes, hah! Anyway, it amazes me how this Vons has one thing that Ralphs doesn't have (and that Ralphs usually has everything I need)--golden creamers, AKA Yukon Gold potatoes. They are probably my favorite potatoes to use to make the best mashed potatoes EVUR. They're so good, I'm allowed by law to misspell words of my choice: Awsum. Other than that, I don't really get anything else here. Stop on by, and tell me how those tempting donuts taste. read more

I came the night before Thanksgiving and ultimately dreading the worst. I can tell the store was incredibly busy not just with customers, but with a lot of workers stocking shelves and maintaining the store. Yes the shelf was out of brown sugar, but I blame myself for going in so late. Obviously that team was trying to maintain with the rush. But best yet was check out. I didn't wait at all. Totally relieved! It was not what I imagine before going in. Thanks read more

I am writing this update because it seems this Vons is taking customer service more seriously. The checkers I've had lately are more attentive. OnTwo separate occasions, they helped me at checkout this past month with an item I go strictly there for. Vons only carries this item. I hope this more caring attitude continues. read more

Well I wish I could leave less than a 1 star review. It's obvious from everybody else's feelings that I feel the same. The manager at this place is the rudest and unhappy person in the world. I would not be surprised if he goes berserk one day and chew everybody that goes in the store out. He screams at customers....really? Because I left my cart accidentally in the middle of the hallway? While I was picking out fruits? No need to scream man! Just say PLEASE move your cart! read more

Worst deli. Customers always cutting each other because there is NO ticket counter or line. Told manager she laughed and said yeah we don't have one. No system. ATTENTION CORPORATE FIX IT AND MAKE YOUR SNAIL EMPLOYEES GO TO SUBWAY SCHOOL. Better yet just go eat at subway after all the wait the food blows read more

In the 9 years I lived in Glendale I never shopped at Vons. I was always a Ralph's customer and would also frequent Vallarta, but never Vons. After numerous bad experiences with the Ralph's in Sylmar after I moved up here, I decided I would give the Vons a chance. Where the Ralph's on Glenoaks seriously lacks customer service, the Vons seems to have it in abundance. I seem to always get the same people when I go there, and they are always so pleasant and helpful. The cashier Gina especially. I know it isn't a big thing but them taking the second to look at the receipt that has my last name on it and then thanking me personally by name really adds a nice touch. Good on ya' Vons! read more

The selection in the organic and bulk produce and wine area are great plus the cashiers are wonderful but the service in the deli is gods awful! I made a lunchtime trip (we have 40 minutes for lunch breaks) at 1:30 and waited for almost 15 minutes with 4 employees behind the counter and 1 customer before us - WTH? Sad to say this isn't unusual - I won't be making any more lunchtime trips, too long and irritating. read more

I love this Vons. The shelves are always stocked and the people are very friendly!! I went for cupcakes and only need 6 but they only had them by the dozen! One of the bakery staff custom made me a 6 pack in the colors I wanted!! You read more

Hailey was amazing, she was the only employee who was personable and nice. The young lady at the flower station was dismissive and rude. I politely said excuse me and asked where the cards were that go inside the flowers and while drinking from her water bottle she pointed to her right and didn't even break her gaze to look at me. I understand it's Valentine's Day and busy yet in my experience working retail and also as a decent human being it is common courtesy to acknowledge a customer asking a question. I asked another woman for help because the flowers I picked out was missing a rose, she didn't even look at me or say anything but handed me another dozen and walked away. Again, I understand being busy yet it is extremely unprofessional to not even acknowledge a person talking to you and act as if I'm bothering you by asking a question. I won't be back to this location again until the employees learn some manners or they hire new ones. Once again, Hailey who rang me up was so nice and deserves a raise. read more

I had a really bad experiences today at the Deli, because i went to buy fried chicken and there wasn't alot so i ask if i could get the pieces amd the manager said no that she couldn't sale me the pieces because they didn't have enough of so i.aske her went was the next order coming she said in 30 minutes, but i can't sale ypu the one because thoes are order from other customers and then i told her then what can you sell me. Well she ws really mean her name is Alejandra. So i went to let know the assisting manager and hi was roud too so i guess not be visiting this Vons again. I felt they where being racist to me. read more

Every time I come here there's always 1 or 2 checkout lanes open and each one has 10 or more customers in line. If this store is always busy, why not open another lane? Poorly managed. I try not to come here but sometimes I just have to bite the bullet. read more

I don't usually buy food from the deli but hey I was hungry and thought I try it..Bought the fried chicken from the rudest counter person that was straight out of the trailer park. The chicken she decided to give me tasted like gasoline and the drumsticks were and I'm not kidding the size of chicken wings ..Needless to say I'll never buy from the deli again. read more

I've shopped at this location for over 20 years. Over the past year I have increasingly become more hesitant to shop there. The crowds inside & in parking lot are annoying, which, ok. Means they are doing good business. So I dealt with that fine. But now it has passed the annoyance stage into frightened stage when you can't get into store without being accosted by scammers. Until it gets straightened out there I'll be shopping anywhere but. read more

Horrible deli ..... after touching money the girl tried to make me a sandwich.... when I pointed it out ( in a nice way) , she walked off into the back . Another girl , that I had to find and ask made my sandwich. Never again , this is twice . There is a super checker named Lorraine, the only reason I go to the store . read more

Almost 9:30 at night and the store is packed. Sylmar needs another full service grocery store in the northern part of Sylmar. I've been in this store three times in the past 6 months and there is always a 15-20 minutes check out. Unacceptable. read more

There is much to be said for a store manager who saves the day but Jeff did just that for me today. I got flustered during my transaction with the cashier and forgot my "cash back" and went home in my Lyft. Not until I reviewed my receipt at home did I even remember the $20 that I left behind. I called the store and they had to audit the register and confirm that indeed the till was over by $20 and that was done promptly. I must admit the "Senior Hours" during this time is appreciated because it is a fact we need a little extra special handling we seniors, and a little extra consideration because not all of us are as swift as each other. We all have different needs some not visible. Jeff certainly saved the day and quickly found a resolution &and won my loyalty and retained a neighborhood customer. Thank you so much. I see quite a few negative reviews on this location and if your reading them to consider making a visit rest assured and take it from me, don't hesitate GO!! The team here at the Sylmar Vons is top notch. The produce man is great, the people in the deli friendly and they care, the meat man flies around with his rack watch out for him as he puts out his beautiful selections and the flower child in that department has the prettiest roses that will make your mate fall in love with you again. See you there, it's the place to go!!! read more

Fruit is never fresh even if you pick the fresh stuff! It's always mushy!!!! The cut fruit is not always great either! Please figure this out cause I am taking my business elsewhere until then! read more

Crazy long lines. I have been coming here for years and live up the street but the mid management of this store is out of control. They had 3 lanes open with 20 people per lane and when I mentioned how busy they were the ch clear said they are always that busy. Last time I go to this location. read more

They definitely don't follow the 3's a crowd rule. There are 2 registers open with literally at least 12 people in each line.

Lines, Lines, Lines, no matter what time you shop the lines are ridiculous. Top it off there is no self check out probably because of the size but would help those lines. Always out of stuff for weeks and produce is limited. I sometimes drive out of the way to Ralph's because of selection. read more

Great experience at vons, I had my father with me who needed the electric cart and he almost crashed into the liquor a nice young lady named kassandra helped us out and helped us laugh about it. My Father was so embarrassed at first but very happy in the end. She then helped us load up water to our car. Give that girl a promotion her attention to customers needs is unmatched. Im very happy i shop here. read more

Poor costumer service, I love buying flowers here because they are way healthy than any flower shop in the area. But beware shoppers do not come before 10am for the flower department. No1 could sell me a flimsy little vase because no1 had a clue of the price, let along a different arrangement that was so pretty but I couldn't take because again no1 had a clue of the price!!!. The poor baker had to come cut the flower for some reason. So in summary their flower department is just to window shop and nothing else before 10am. Thanks Vons! Thank you for forcing me to not spend my money on what I want. read more

This market is like wandering into the Twilight Zone...or a horror movie set with a deli counter. It's dirty, dreary, and looks like time forgot it. I agree with one poster who said they need to give the place a facelift, but I don't know if Vons new overlords, Safeway will commit to that. Add to that, it seems the store management doesn't take much pride and that trickles down. As one poster said, this is the most reputable market in Sylmar, and that is frightening when you think about it. I have seen half eaten food on the shelves, or half drunk bottles of soda, water, etc. and again that rests with the leadership. Also, most stores make an effort to sweep and clean up daily. That doesn't seem to be the case here. And, yes, there are transients all over the place in the parking lot, and I saw one follow a lady into the store asking her for money. I'd not try my luck withdrawing money from the Chase ATM next door. I have never seen so many homeless or transients in an area outside of downtown LA. Are there halfway houses in the area? read more

When I worked around here years ago, this Vons had one of the few remaining dispensing machines I'd seen with Homies figurines. Don't tell me I'm the only one who collects these. The other one I've found is on Fountain Ave at a mini mart behind the Scientology center in Hollywood. I was so excited when I got a chola and also the homie in the wheelchair. read more

I will give very low rate for this location. 1-takes forever to check out 2-not fully stocked 4-not fresh food 5-worst customer service

What's wrong with you guys? How is it possible that you have 3-4 registers open and at each register there is the longest line. Horrible!!!!!! If the manager is slow (which he was) than everyone else will be slow. Good luck read more

All I can say is the store Manager is Rude!! I asked a simple question and he almost ate me up ... If that's the Manager what are we going to expect for the rest of the crew .. By the way it was on 7/7/2015 at night did not get his name . Keep up the good Customer service read more

P.J. and Lorraine are the ONLY reason I even bother with this store anymore. The selection is slim, they are ALWAYS out of sale items.

9 pm is the worst time to come, but sometimes I have to pick up groceries after works. There's always a line with 7 or more and some of the cashiers have no sense of urgency even when they see more people getting in line. Either have more cashiers open another register or DON'T get too chatty if you see that the line is extremely long. read more

If I could rate this place a 0 star, I would. This the most unorthodox store I've experienced. The deli took me 20 min to make a basic turkey bacon sandwich. 20 min starting when the young girl, Andrea, took my order. The issue was there are 3 deli ppl and only two making sandwiches. The older woman says, while laughing, "oh I don't know what's going on here, it's a mess." The couple next to me just laughed because it was a disaster. No one was restocking items so one by one, the girl making the sandwich would leave then come back. Leave then come back. I wish I was exaggerating or making this stuff up. What a horrible experience. The staff had a poor attitude and it reflected on the experience that we had as PAYING CUSTOMERS. read more

I have recently fallen in amore with vons/safeway. They just re-opened this store, so it is all pretty and vamped up. i heard this past saturday they had specials for their grand-opening, i didn't know chains still do that now a days. you'll notice the workers almost stalking you but that's just because the management has asked them to be very customer friendly. no more anonymous shopping trips with sex hair and yesterday's underwear here. make friends with the butcher and find out what's fresh. veggies are always up there too. don't forget to CHECK OUT THE SOUPS. im a soup kind of girl and they definitely do it right here - baked potato, broccoli and cheddar, jambalaya.... i've noticed that the soup made daily tends to taste a little yummier but the packaged delights are still the ones i take home. i recently had the steakhous chili - cubes of meat, beans, spicy sauce, i like it a little hot with tapatio, sriracha, or whatever else is on hand. DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE. don't forget to pick up your breads or something from the pretty great wine selection. it's not a trader joes but maybe someday..... read more

Horrible customer service. I got a veggie sandwich today and let me tell you, it was disgusting. But first let me back, the girl who was helping me didn't understand what I wanted, had to repeat myself 100 times. On top of that, she was rude, not friendly and I regret waiting for 20 minutes for a lousy SOGGY sandwich that fell apart once I opened it. I regret getting my lunch from here and I highly suggest you don't either. Go to 'Sylmars Fix' close by. read more
