You know how they say you know you're an adult when you get pissed off when they rearrange your grocery store? That's part of the reason I keep coming here. I can't be bothered to learn the layout of a brand new fancy-schmancy Whole Foods, or anything like that. This is my local grocery store, and I feel like I'm in here at least once a day. It's not necessarily the best market, the most modern, or always has the freshest produce or meats. But what can I say? It's close and convenient, I know where everything is, and I can get in and out in under an hour for a big shop. Or 15 to 20 minutes to just pick up a few items. Barring THOSE difficult customers in line who want to pay with a paper check or are haggling over sale prices, of course ;). What does Vons does have going for? It is good customer service. I really appreciate Liz, my favorite lady at the checkout. She is always polite and pleasant. And also the tall deaf man who works in the beer and wine/liquor section. Sorry, I don't know his name but he is very nice. I wish I knew ASL so I could communicate with him. I guess what I'm saying is when you employ good people, it can overlook a lot of other things. I used to shop here Almost every day more than 20 years ago, I run it from time to time when I'm in the neighborhood and boy hasn't changed! The meat is gross , the last package I got stunk so bad I immediately returned it but the whole meat department is a sad joke, they should be embarrassed, but I don't think they are with all the bad reviews they have, I don't see how they stay in business! I have come to this Vons for 20 years. It's seen better days but it still has the necessities. I'm only writing this in case management sees it: Brittney is the GOAT, Carmen is a legend, a guy who used to work there, Bryant, was the man. But Maria? She was in such a foul mood today. Since when does returning TWO items (which I have never done there, and I get it, it's annoying, but they were unused/unopened and it's part of the job) elicit not one but TWO huffy sighs? She apologized to the customers behind me as if I were creating a problem. It's not my fault the return system is inefficient. She let another customer cut me in line and I said nothing but no problem. So rude when I left as if I interrupted her workflow. But I guess that's what's acceptable nowadays. Same thing at Vons - another absurdly long wait. When I asked a dark-skinned staff member about pickup, he just stared at me for 30 seconds before slowly saying "okay" and walking to the back. Came out saying the order was already picked up. He seemed too lazy to actually check and kept staring at me in a threatening way, like he wanted to start something. I had to walk away in fear of his attitude. I strongly recommend DoorDash stop sending drivers to both stores. They don't value our time or treat us with basic decency. read more

Disappointed for a lot of reasons. The organic fruit and vegetable section is always so tiny and very understocked. the organic fruits and veggies that are stocked are often bruised/moldy/half rotten. There is never ANY organic chicken breasts that are air chilled (not dunked in chlorine). The place is a bit dirty inside (and outside is pretty bad too). inside it smells like sewage or something bad in one section, maybe a leak, either way not something you want in your grocery store. This is the only major store within a couple of miles radius and this is what they offer? I have mostly stopped going to this grocery store, even though I drive by it every night after picking up my children from daycare. Yesterday I decided to stop on the way home with my kids because I just needed a couple of quick things and on my way out (after paying for everything!!) the store locked my shopping cart wheels as I was leaving, so I was trying to push a cart with two little kids and my groceries and couldn't t move. Someone did come over and unlock my wheels, but seriously Vons, do better. Never coming back here with my kids at least, you make this so family unfriendly. read more

The background music is usually so loud you can hear it over and above the program you're listening to on your noise blocking airpods (I guess the manager doesn't realize it causes a lot of people to hurry out the store instead of browsing and buying more - Google it). There are usually NO hand baskets at the door people come in at night. Milk bread and meat sometimes go off in a couple days long before the sell by date (same brands from other stores don't). Been going there for 25 years now, past year, this store has turned in to a disgusting hole. Got a Ralphs card sent to me in 1997, haven't really shopped there since this Von's was so close, but as there are a number of decent Ralph's stores a short drive away and they don't SUCK, time to go back. read more

This is my overall favorite store to shop in. The Vons corn tortilla chips are ridiculously good (not cheap at all for a store brand), the produce is above average and self checkout is great (I worked for Ralph's for 7 yrs and make quick work of checking out). They have longtime staffers who know their business. I don't know what all the whining is about, I always find parking (maybe I tend to shop off peak hours?). The Rite Aid is closed so there is a huge lot that is mostly empty. Can you walk 40 yards? If so 100% chance of parking. read more

Visited 5/19/2026 at 3:30 p.m. and left 10 minutes later, buying nothing. The condition of the store was appalling: water on the dirty floor in various areas, shelves empty, trash on the floor, shopping carts scattered in the parking lot. But wait, that's the best part. I stood for 10 minutes in front of the deli case and was ignored by two employees in the work area, basically denied service. The one guy actually hid in the back and was peeking out at me. The lady worker had her mouth full, chewing away. Two other shoppers gave up waiting and walked away. I have also been a customer here for decades and seen the UPS and downs. One of the consistent problems is items past the "best by" date. You need to check dates on everything. This store is an unprofessional mess. The pervasive attitude is "do I look like I care?" Self check out stations are often not working. There are never more than 2 check stands -- with actual checkers -- open. Don't ask me about the time I found moldy strawberries and the manager (or supervisor on duty) was unphased. Really, I am to blame for ever having gone back to this store. It's hopeless. Ever since the merger between Albertsons and Vons a few years ago, obviously some changes have occurred. If you patronize a popular Albertsons/Vons location, chances are that you will benefit from a well-managed or acceptably managed, market, then if you have the misfortune of shopping at an underutilized location such as this one. Liabilities of this location: Sparsely staffed, i.e. even in mid-day, on a weekday, this location had only one cashier and a line with about 15 people, stretched deep into the center of the market. Several customers were shouting for help at the check-out stand, but help did not come for about 10 minutes! According to some vocal customers, this market is always this poorly staffed and stocked. This location (4030 South Centinela Avenue) is so dysfunctional, that unless you have just a handful or basket full of items and are willing and able to use the automated check-out, then avoid this location. This location operates more like a poorly managed 7-11, than a supermarket! To add insult to injury, the prices are higher than ever! You guys!!!! I'm so disappointed! Vons is supposed to be a step up from where I used to live compared to Albertsons but out here it's literally giving dead on arrival. I came for the steak deal and I really wish I took a picture at the meats that were in the prepackaged section because T-bone steaks should have a short loin and on one side and literally all the family packs were missing that section. Defeats the purpose of a T-bone steak butchers just Fyi! So I wanted to grab the ones from the fridge section but no one came out to give assistance until I walked into their back area and demanded someone to stop talking to each other and come out and help the line of customers who are waiting. Elizabeth is so so sweet and good at her job! I came in needing like 15 balloons blown up for my brother's birthday and she was so quick and efficient. It was a tedious job and she handled it great. I used to love this store. It was our rundown, but well merchandised neighborhood store with decent prices. They always had organic produce and a decent wine selection. Since the addition of the self check out, it's become hell on earth. They purposefully only open one check out with a human at it, and then force the rest of us to wait in line for a terrible experience where the machine yells at you and somehow that's supposed to make you wanna come back. I'm so sad to lose this store, but I don't think I can come here much anymore. I'm gonna go to Trader Joe's where they have humans checking you out. If you are expecting Gelsons, go there and have fun with the high prices and their selection. I am not trashing Gelsons. I go there, a lot. But there are many things which I can't find there and then there is the pricing, so off to my local Vons I go and I am happy. This Vons is not beautiful, the lines can be long (really manager schedule just a few more people), and you won't find fancy stuff there. That is not why I go. This Vons has everything I want and when I am on a serious budget I can find things at the lowest prices in town and a selection that may be better suited for those on a budget. That is sometimes me. The place is pretty clean, it could be a tad better, but it is fine. If I have a question, there is someone to help me. The cashiers are wonderful. Maybe I do wait a bit in line, but once I am there the cashiers are super friendly. To those of you saying the service is not nice, try being nice yourself first. I always have a smile when I show up at the register and it is returned and I am often asked if I need help to my car. Parking is easy and the place is big. It has all the essentials and a few things you won't find at other stores. Their selection of "junk food" is the best. I love corn dogs, frozen, I admit it. The lady that helped us (didn't get her name) said to her co worker Jailen "I'm not doing this anymore, they're taking advantage" after I said I needed one more rain check for myself. It's one thing to have inconveniences due to the coronavirus. It's another thing to be downright inattentive, and nasty to customers... Apparently, the cashier's name was "Candelaria". While the line was incredibly backed up, she was too busy talking to a co-worker to give a rat's butt about the customers standing in line, anxious to get the hell out of the store. When I finally got close to the front of the line, she started throwing a tantrum about having to wear gloves because she was no longer allowed to touch the keypad with her bare fingers for safety reasons. So she just walked away, and came back several minutes later with a different pair of gloves. She was somewhat apologetic to the customer in front of me, who was just about done anyway, but then she got real snippy with me. Apparently there's red squares that we have to stand in line for social distancing... which is fine, but I didn't appreciate the attitude from her about it. Finally, when it was my turn, there was no "thank you", or even eye contact. All I got was a real bitchy attitude from Candelaria. Hell, I didn't even get any Monopoly tickets. The vibe I got from the bagger wasn't particularly great either. I was just glad to get the hell out of there. I think it's safe to say that based on this crappy experience, I will not be going to this Vons anymore. It's one thing to be frustrated over the entire coronavirus situation, but when you start mistreating customers, you deserve to lose business. Today was strike three, I've reported bad customer service from working staff in the deli department, at the cashier/register and today with the butcher (Alex) Their employees are rude, sarcastic, condescending and pretentious, unacceptable behavior. Came shopping in Los Ángeles for some groceries for the first time in almost 13 years while I'm on vacay. This store is huge, unfortunately I couldn't find any mangos and the fresh fruit selection was rather small. This Von's continually understaffs the store and there are always extremely long lines, tonight was no exception. This Von's seems to have a great deal of foot traffic in the evening and management doesn't seem staff properly.
