This was once a Premier store in the Von's world. Not so much anymore. We bought a cooked chicken from their deli section. Once home we found a time stamp of 12 noon. We bought the chicken about 4:30 in the afternoon. What a bust. The poor chicken fell apart when taken out of the bag two or three bites and into the trash. Prices are up and quality is down. Stay with a Costco chickens or shop elsewhere. The store has a new manager with zero personality, ditto deli manager. Staff appears unhappy here with nary a smile or kind word to be found. My friends and I went to Starbucks at the Vons on Mission Oaks Blvd, One of my friends ordered a strawberry lemonade açaí and the other ordered a hot chai. The friend who ordered a hot chai got an Iced Chai. My other friend that ordered the strawberry açaí specifically said "with lemonade" and got water instead. she asked if it was made with lemonade or water and the barista said it was made with water. My friend said she ordered it with lemonade and asked to have them remake it but the barrista said she would have to charge her for lemonade. keep in mind, she already paid $7 for the drink and already paid for the lemonade. This Vons is our regular everyday grocery store primarily due to its location. Overall it is a clean well stocked grocery store. My primary concern/complaint?? My wife and I often find expired products on the shelves (commonly we find expired yogurt in the dairy case. This evening, we discovered 5-6 expired cake slices (2 days out of date) in the bakery area. If we had another nearby choice, we would likely shop elsewhere! read more

While most of the time I have a good experience at this Vons, Monday the 14th of April I was in the store at 12 noon to get some fried chicken drumsticks that were on a just for u deal, to my shock they had none, the pan on which they should have resided was empty and very clean! It was quite obvious that they had made any that day and the reaction from the crew was like "oh well" They really need to get their "s--t" together if they don't want to get closed down now that the market on Arneil is open and better stocked! read more

I tried to get a sandwich today at lunch time at this Vons Deli. Waited in line to be told by the kid behind the counter that the store was out of bread!! Really? A Vons out of bread? I walked beck to the bread isle and they were stocked to the gills with bread. So the lazy POS didn't want to restock his Deli with bread. I can see this store is managed well. This is the Vons I shop at because of where I live in Camarillo. This is not a knock on the quality of people that work here or the product. The self check out though always has the bags laid out, which is really nice of them to do for us, but whoever is laying the bags out can you either stop smoking or have someone else do that job. Best bakery! Best employee--Faith. She is so nice and very helpful. Love the section of pre-cooked meals.

The good: They have a great wine selection and their floral/plant department is really great! They had hanging indoor plants, fall-related plants and many orchids. They also have pumpkins right now for the fall and they're shapely, smooth, pretty and affordable. There's ample space in the parking lot. I got cilantro and green onion for 99 cents each. This isn't the cheapest price I've ever seen but it isn't the most expensive either. The bad: The bathroom could be a little cleaner. The interesting: This is a SoCal chain of grocery stores. The back right corner has some shelves that carry their clearance and on sale items. Their slogan has changed over the decades but right now it's "It's just better." read more

Used to be the best, I've been shopping here for 14+ years but ever since they opened self check out and I've used it when in a rush I've had a specific person CONSTANTLY target me as if I were stealing which has made me late to work on several occasions. BEWARE OF EXPIRED FOOD. This Von's has gotten very bad in the last year about selling food very close to and even past the SELL BY DATE and often past the USE BY date. Check all perishables closely - milk, eggs, meat. Just today I found packaged cooked chicken two days past the use-by date and milk two days past the sell-by date. I've never seen a market this bad in this respect. read more

Really like this Vons overall. Yesterday was in line and order was complete and paid by the woman in front of me when she said "oh I forgot the two cases of water in my basket, I need those for the 4 or more to save".. there were 4 people waiting in line, the checker said she would need to refund her money, re-ring all the items that had to be un-bagged. What was frustrating was the checker kept telling the woman that this happens all the time...at no time did the checker acknowledge the customers in line that were now frustrated and 2 left the line. When I got up to check out she did not acknowledge me, greet me or bag my items and basically threw my receipt at me. There is a decorum that people need to be aware of what is going on around them and to acknowledge...it would have been nice from the inconsiderate customer and the checker..and in the end what was the savings?. read more

People in this community are very nice and patient. We dropped in to buy a gift for a friend who was having a birthday party nearby. The gift card section had more than enough options to choose from, we ended up buying a Cheese Cake Factory gift card. If I could give a 0 star I would my sister and I went to order a 50 piece family pack (which we have done many times before in the past) only to be told that it is a specialty order and it needs to be ordered 24 hours in advanced. No where on the board does it say that we have to do that. We then ask for a manger and she sent us to a supervisor (Tyler) he said that it's their policy even tho there was nothing written on the board. This Vons is terrible. I did self check out and was paying with my Vons gift card. The register said insufficient funds but I checked my Vons app and the money was there. I even called my wife while I was at the register so she could confirm. I ran the card twice and I finally hit the back button to enter my payment type again and the register spits out my receipt. I decided to order my daughters 2nd birthday cake from Vons, because I ordered her 1st birthday cake from Safeway and they did an incredible job. I called and asked for a Moana themed cake for a toddler birthday. They suggested I go "ocean blue, Hawaiian flowers on the side in pinks and green, and graham cracker crumbs on top to mimic sand." I said she loved strawberries so they suggested I add on "a few big strawberries coated in glaze on the bottom of the cake". When I was presented this cake on the day of her party I wanted to cry. I was so disappointed and upset that this was the result of an order I placed in January and called to confirm details on multiple times. If it wasn't for the online service, we wouldn't use this location at all... the person at self check (Timmy or Tommy) was extremely inattentive. Had to wait for him to finish talking to another employee to assist us. When he did assist I wished it truly was self check because of how bad he smelt. I asked a bag person as we were leaving to speak to a manager. He told us that both people (self check person and other employee with medium length brown hair and beard) we're both the managers. I can't not write this. I've been holding off for so long but today is the last straw. The only thing worse than getting home with a $6 pint of high end ice cream and realizing you picked a crappy flavor is getting home and realizing the frost burned morsel would have been delicious. Why for the love of god is your ice cream section always all iced over? I'd understand if it was a brief thing due to a malfunctioning freezer but this has been going on for years. Between that and the not one, but two times we've come home only to find out that something from your freezer section was expired (one was six months past the date) I'm done. We can ice the cake with the soup containers in the deli that were sitting in the "warmish" temperature danger zone section and the kid I've now seen take out the trash and go to helping customers behind the deli counter on more than one occasion. I don't know who the manager of this store is, but they should be fired for the shit show they are running. You've officially lost our families business and that's a shame since we are a block away. read more

I ordered some mortadella from the deli to take home and while the lady behind the counter handed it to me its was a greenish color obviously not edible and expired I handed it to the cashier because I wasn't about to pay for some expired shit! I don't think they check for the expired food here at all!! Second thing that pissed me off coming here was my cake order for my daughter's 10th bday !!!! Their bakery personnel need some training on how to bake a pie. I purchased a custard pie there today. It looked pretty good in the package. But when I got it home and opened it up it was a different story. The pen was clearly not baked enough. Instead of a nice, firm custard, the center of the poor was still liquid and runny. I couldn't even cut a slice as it was just too liquified. I dated to taste it and it literally tasted like eggs with sugar. It was terrible. The pie immediately went into the trash. Next time I'll make the trip to Marie Calendars for a real pie. I would suggest you do too! read more

I've been to 13 different grocery stores in Simi Valley, Moorpark, Oxnard, and Camarillo---EVERYONE is out of Brussels sprouts, which happens to be my signature dish for Thanksgiving. Of all the stores I visited today, Tom in produce at Vons in Mission Oaks was the only person who went the extra mile to help me. He found a box of Brussels in the back refrigerator and even helped me to checkout. It seems so rare to experience excellent customer service these days, especially in large corporate-type stores. Tom was so friendly and extremely helpful, truly going above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. My entire family of 20 looks forward to my Brussel sprouts (wine, cream sauce with Gouda cheese & bacon) which I only make once a year! I'm so grateful to Tom that I'll now be able to continue with a family tradition. Thank you again!!!!! read more

I'm not understanding the negative reviews for this store. We've lived in the area for 11 years and we've used this store since then. I've found just about the opposite of what the negatives are saying. The checkers have always been courteous, efficient and friendly. When I've been at a loss to locate something, I've had an employee go out of his way to assist me. I usually don't rate grocery stores but I thought because I practically live here why not! This location is just a minute or two away from where I live so the convenience is great. I'm usually here a few times a week sometimes so the employees have come to recognize me. The store itself is always clean and the majority of the staff are friendly and helpful. Here in Camarillo we definitely need more grocery store options as this location can get very busy. I don't live locally but come here every Sunday due to being in the area. They have the best selection of specialty items I have seen, but the worst service. There are cashiers I avoid even if the line is shorter because I know they are so slow. The worst one I have encountered had a full conversation about getting a different job including getting a business card from the shopper in front of me. The baggers consistently do a lack luster job to the point where I have lost food due to them rolling out of bags and breaking. Just because I bring my own bags, they seem to think all bets are off for trying to package my purchase decently. Even my husband who stopped in once commented how they are the slowest cashiers he has seen. My only reason for continued visits is convenience but purchases will be limited to items of necessity. read more

In the Oxnard and Camarillo areas, I will say this is my favorite Vons to go to. It's usually clean enough and I feel safe in the area. However their produce (berries specifically) are always molded over while still on the shelves. Lately on the trips I've made, the checkers have had bad attitudes. Specifically there is a young woman with long dark hair who not only rolled her eyes continuously but also threw my items down on the conveyor belt after scanning them. She also kept giving looks to the young man bagging my groceries as if I was doing something wrong when I was silent the whole time. I was pretty angry with her and the several times I've see her working she's always appeared to have that same attitude. Not sure of her name but will definitely update if I figure it out. I prefer Trader Joe's much more than Vons and recommend their stores as they have better service and better quality. read more

While this is my go to grocery store it is crucial to get the timing right. Obvious by the long check out lines and busy aisles there are not many options on this side of town. The staff is always very friendly and I enjoy getting fresh fish on a weekly basis. While the deli doesn't always seem to have the best of choices I enjoy being able to order from the sushi chefs on site. The produce is hit or miss just as parking can get a bit testy. Everyone's in a rush to run people over to get where they need to be. I suggest coming late at night or mid morning before lunch hours to avoid the crazy scene that can be this Vons. read more

Oh Mission Oaks Vons, how do I despise thee??? Let me count the ways. It's so poorly managed, I live closeby and do all I can to avoid it. I have so many complaints, mostly about the bad manager, the terrible produce dept. guy (and not suprisingly the terrible produce), but also about some of the Leisure-ites who frequent the place (I walked by while one loud old man was telling off a meat dept. worker for having a slight accent, it was appalling). They do not staff the registers well enough at busy times. The Starbuck's is run by teens who have no clue what they are doing. And last of all, this shopping center has so many teens / tweens hanging out, it is just annoying. By the way, I have and love children. Some of my favorite people in the world are elderly, so those issues for me are minor, the real issue here is poor management. read more
