Every time I walked out out with a DIFFERENT tone. One time I left with a purple hue. A few times I saw a brown stripe around my head that looked so bad in pics. How?! She refused to paint the foils CLOSER to my head. In tears I came back & told Tosha my roots were too dark. I left the salon LOOKING like you're overdue for a root touch. She kept pushing me to go brunette because it was more convenient for her. I've gotten highlights since 1999. She told me my natural color was too dark, to go blonde & that's why I turn brassy. She said she asked ALL the other stylists if they could help me, but they all REFUSED. "This salon just does a more natural rooted look and what I'm asking for is outdated & from the 90s." Not only did she insult me, but she fired me as a client and canceled my follow- up appointment. She told me she was actually undercharging me and not charging me ENOUGH. Tasha is very nice which is why I kept giving her another chance.. So now I am back to driving two hours to Destin to see my old stylist. If you can't do blonde well, then SAY SO when a new client sits in your chair. read more

Wow! I was very impressed by my whole experience and my haircut with Ally. I was able to book online and then when I messed up the time I called and they were able to move it 2 hours later for me. They validate parking in the back- but you need the red Premium Parking app to do so! Ally was terrific and gave me the BEST SCALP MASSAGE I've ever had during my wash. And the price wasn't outrageous, I got a wash and layered trim for $45. I was expecting it to be way more for the upscale vibes in the room. Everyone I talked to was very friendly and the bathrooms were super clean. They do take your credit card info when you book an appointment- but that is fair because you are making a COMMITMENT. If you wish to see a stylist regularly dont choose this business. I have been going here for several years and I have had 3 different artists due to the artist no longer working there. When you reschedule you get pushed out 1-3 weeks past your original appointments for a few months until they can fit you back in comfortably. Its very inconvenient and for the prices its unacceptable. Your stylist will frequently be double booked so dont expect the 1:1 treatment at every appointment. I am a disappointed in a couple things with my hair. There is a patch in the very front that looks like it got missed. It is in the very front and center piece. The top of my hair and bottom are completely different colors. We talked about how I wear my hair up very often, so I wanted to try some lighting underneath. What I didn't expect was for the underneath to be platinum while the top is much more muted and honestly brassy. The color is also very chunky on the bottom which I am not a big fan of. When she pulled my hair up in the salon I should have expressed my shock then, but I wasn't sure what to say or do and I was just ready to get home and get my back dry from the bowl. When she was adding in the foils, she had to pull the bottom ones out and she hand rinsed them while she finished adding the rest. She tried to rinse them in the bowl after all of them were pulled off but that was almost an hour after they were hand rinsed. When my hair is up, from the side it looks so bad cause you can see both shades at once. Yes, I am unhappy with my hair, but what was the reason for the poor review was when I reached out via email... NO ONE EVER RESPONDED. I gave them a chance to correct this, but never even heard back. Charged a cancellation fee when I called the day before the appointment (Monday for a Tuesday appointment). The appointment was scheduled at 9 and I called at 2. The did not try to fill the slot and or work with me at all. I booked an appointment online for an over all toner with shampoo and blow dry for $20($18 with a 10% off discount) with their lowest level (newest) hair dresser. When I sat in the chair I told her I wanted to do what was booked and we talked and never did I ask for anything other than a toner and what I booked for. My hair didn't look much different just refreshed which in my head was fine I'm only paying around 20 plus tip so it was a nice little mom get away. When I checked out the lady at the counter said $90.... I was so surprised I had asked why and she said oh well product and everything extra like shampoo and wash. I was too in shock and they were busy I didn't want to hold up the line. I went to my care very upset I just paid an unexpected $90 for what seemed like nothing. Well a nice hair wash. I checked the promotion to make sure I wasn't making anything up and online it said "included shampoo and blow dry." So what did I just pay for? I was bothered enough I called the salon as I sat in their parking lot bc I was too upset to go in person and the front desk told me a manager would call me back. It's been over a month and still have not received any kind of care and as I go searching for a new salon and I see they have over a 4 star rating it makes me so furious. Sarah is a hair wizard! I had a relatively harsh line from a previous ombre done at another salon and wanted to get it fixed before deploying. I researched all the nearby salons and stylists before choosing Sarah, who turned out to be exactly what my hair needed. Making the appointment was a breeze. They asked a lot of questions which I liked as it helped them get a better sense of how my hair was currently and what exactly I was looking to get done. Sarah was awesome from start to finish. She explained everything she was doing, asked for my input and other questions as we went along, and was very transparent throughout the entire process. We started with a cut, then went into the blending and color. She dried a test swatch to ensure that I liked the final product and I felt comfortable enough to be completely honest. After a little update, I was left 100% satisfied. Usually I find little things wrong once I get home, but that hasn't been the case here. I got exactly what I envisioned and the color is something I've wanted for awhile but no other stylist has been able to really achieve. The salon itself is cute, clean, and spacious. They have their own parking lot which is super clutch given the downtown location. Prices are very reasonable and on par with the service you get. Overall, couldn't be happier with my experience. I was encouraged by my new current stylist to make this review as I'm not a confrontational person. February 27th 2021 I had an appointment with Kat for highlights. Everything was going well until I was put under the heat. My head started to feel super hot so I leaned forward out of the heater waiting until Kat came back into the room. (I was in the back room where there was nobody else that Saturday) it was probably about 10-20 minutes before she came to check on me I let her know I was super hot but she said my hair needed a bit more time so back under the heat I went. After a few more minutes my head started burning again, I sat forward out of the heat once again and Kat came back after a few minutes. She was ready to rinse my hair out and at this point I'm sure she saw the redness but failed to mention anything. We made it back to the chair for trim and blow dry! The whole time I really just felt an odd pain on my scalp. Again, at this point I'm sure she noticed because my hair was not drying where the burn was. It was super oily as it was clearly blistering during this time. I really had no idea it was this bad until I left. Once I was home and really able to take a look and have my husband look as well, he was appalled that I had to pay for any services (mind you I tipped great too) as it was clear as day I had a chemical burn. What I went through for MONTHS after this were terrible! The healing took almost an entire year. It is just now starting to not be sensitive. Constant pain trying to wash my hair, scabbing and bleeding over and over again, my hair has completely fallen out, and will NOT grow back in that spot. I've been told multiple times that this salon is lucky that I didn't take further action as this was a much more serious situation than I had thought at the time. read more

Let me start saying with the pricing is absolutely astronomical, and they definitely throw in services that were not discussed to jack up the price. With that being said, my last service was the absolute worst.. I made it clear at my appointment that I was there for a MINIMAL maintenance blonding and ONLY wanted my bangs touched up. The stylist did SO MUCH MORE than discussed and charged me $250. I thought I was clear on what I was requesting but obviously racking up a bill was much more important than listening to the client. On top of the ridiculous bill, the service was NOT what I asked for. My hair looked like it hadn't been touched, my bangs were NOT any different than when I walked in, the only thing different was my wallet. I have to start this review by saying I have absolutely no complaints about the quality of my color service. My hair is always done exactly as I like it every single time. It's stunning. That being said, I've had two sets of clothing ruined by Marissa now since I first started seeing her in November. I've been having my hair colored for 10 years (including a stint where I was sterling silver when I was seeing a vivid color specialist and was in the chair for 5 hours every time) and I have NEVER had someone ruin my clothing. The salon would not even entertain compensating me for my ~$80 in lost clothing this last episode when I called to let them know what had happened after I got home and discovered bleach all down my back. Never mind I'm paying what I've paid in San Diego and Baltimore; the least they could have been done was compensate me for my ruined clothing. I won't be retuning. The person i went to claimed to be a curly hair expert but was far from it atleast thats what her work showed. I went in for a coloring service for blonde highlights (which i had done before at a different establishment and it looked amazing) and i have never been more dissatisfied from a service in my life. Black women have hard enough time already trying to find a stylist that can do their hair and i am now traumatized. I made my consultation first. i talked to the stylist, told her i had magenta highlights in my hair currently which she could see but it was pretty faded out. I told her i wanted to go back to blonde highlights. I asked if it was possible and she said yes. I explain to her during my consultation that I didn't want her to cut my hair during this appointment because i am scarred from getting my hair cut in the past by someone who didn't know what they were doing. without hesitation she assured me it would be no problem and she could get me to where i want to be. So I schedule the appointment and i was mortified. i walked out of the salon with orange brassy tones, yellow, blonde, and pink hair. I reached out to her to express my dissatisfaction and she assured me she could fix it but this time free of charge. I came in the second time and it turned out WORSE than before as i walked out of the salon IN TEARS with blue and blonde hair. I honestly didn't know it could get worse. At this point i was devastated my hair was dead. She had no idea how to style my type of hair and it shows as the pictures i have provided are directly after each appointment. I reached out to management to explain my situation and not only did it take them forever to get back to me but shocker they were no help at all and clearly dont care about their customers. All they said was that she did her best. Yeah... she did her best for the hair type she's best suited for... which clearly isn't mine. They wanted me to come back for yet ANOTHER CORRECTION SERVICE. Now why would i do that? There are no refunds so if you are dissatisfied RUN far far away. Dont let them talk you into a free "correction service" they will just mess up your hair even more. This is the first and the last time i will ever go to this salon. Word of advice, if you want your hair done right go to salon san carlos! They fixed what volume 1 screwed up. And to volume 1... The overall flow of the salon is so smooth it almost can be felt. It is impressive! I have been a client for 2 1/2 years and could't be happier. Came across their Facebook and was infatuated with all the wonderful blond work they do. Having a fancy trip planned within the week I called on Thursday to see if any of their blond specialists had any openings that weekend. Sure as shit Jackie was available first thing Saturday morning. The sweet lady who booked me gave me Jackie's Instagram info so I could see her work. Her work is gorgeous. I sent her a message with a photo of my hair and we talked about what I wanted. Saturday morning I made the 30 minute drive, paid $10 for parking and arrived right on time. The sweet lady at the front desk apologized because Jacki called off and their computer systems were down so she was unable to call me to let me know. She said Jackie tried contacting me to let me know she called off.....? The lady at the front desk was so sweet. Offering to book me with someone else later that day. But what the hell? I already researched Jackie and was not about to pay more for parking and go 30 minutes home, back, then home again! After leaving I noticed Jackie sent me a message on Instagram less than 40 minutes before my appointment telling me she called off and wanted to know if I could reschedule or she could have someone else do my hair that day. I was set to pay a little over $200 plus 20% tip for my hair on top of parking and the drive and they canceled on me. While the lady at the front was trying her hardest to keep my business they never offered me any type of discount for wasting my time. There's plenty of other salons who are smart enough to book online via Facebook so if their systems to down they can simply log on with their phones and contact the clients well before their appointments. I have to say this is the BEST salon I've ever been at. I've had my hair cut a few times by Kat, and I have loved it every time. She really knows how to work with my thick, wavy hair. I also had my hair colored by Becca. I went from a dark brunette to a pink color, and it came out looking amazing. It was a whole day process, and Becca was the best. So, I've been growing my hair for almost 5 years. I hadn't even colored it until last year (see my review about Mastercuts for the T on that). I am really attached to my long hair both physically and emotionally, so when I realized it was time to get a trim I was SO NERVOUS. Luckily, my stylist, Kait, was extremely knowledgable and knew how to explain things to me in a way that is easily understood (because I didn't go to beauty school :) ). I got my hair hair done here for my wedding day along with my bridal party and my mother and mother-in-law. I am so glad I chose Volume One. There were 11 of us in total, which is a lot of women to get ready by a certain time, but everything was easy and flawless. We used the upstairs loft space that was available just for our party. Katherine, the wedding coordinator, ordered breakfast for us and made sure we were on schedule. She was so helpful and easy to work with. My hair looked AMAZING and so did everyone's in my party. Sometimes I've seen at other weddings where the brides hair looks great and the bridesmaids... not so much - that was NOT the case here. All the stylists were invested in everyone looking great.
