I also mentioned that I tend to cut my own hair at home, so I was also given some tips on how to improve that. The establishment seemed clean and overall operated quite efficiently. The complimentary assortment of Keuring coffee, along with some juice and canned soda choices was also a nice touch.

Turns out he was gone. That's been the pattern the whole time I've been going here: it feels like every time I book, there's a new stylist because the last one is just gone. And it's not random -- the stylists who actually give great cuts don't stick around long, while the ones who end up staying are consistently the weaker cutters. It's like the good talent moves on and the place is left with whoever's left. That instability shows in the work: my haircuts have been all over the place, quality-wise, depending on who's available that day. There's no consistency, which defeats the purpose of having a "regular" place. On top of that, the atmosphere more often then not feels tense. There's seemingly a never ending undercurrent of staff drama that makes the whole experience less relaxing than it should be. I also want to mention the manager's breath was noticeably bad every time she leaned in to talk to me during my appointments -- not a one-off thing, and hard to ignore in a service where someone's close to your face. After a couple years of hoping it was just a rough patch, I've decided to find a new spot. Wouldn't recommend unless things change.

I am sad to write this review but figured it's good information to share with others…read more I read a lot of reviews and I made an appointment with "stylist A", about a month in advance. The day of the appointment I got a call from someone else (stylist B) saying that she was running 20 min behind and asked if I could come 20 min later than scheduled, I said sure and that's what I did. I get there and stylist B greets me, this is when I realized she isn't the person I booked with, based on the picture. She said "your haircut is now with Stylist C and pointed to another woman standing by the desk. I had no choice in the matter and was already very annoyed but the switch ups but didn't feel like I could say no, plus I needed a haircut. Let's just say I was less than thrilled with stylist C and the haircut I ended up with. Also very unhappy with how unprofessional stylist B was, she never mentioned she is taking over my appointment, and she called to change the appointment time and was still unavailable. I also want to mention that I emailed the salon sharing my disappointment and have not heard back at all.. no apology, explanation or anything. So if you have a preference for a stylist make sure they don't change things up on you! Very disappointing customer service.

Such an unprofessional, non-factual, and condescending reply reinforces my decision not to return and should serve as a major red flag for anyone considering this establishment. It's particularly troubling that neither the owner nor anyone in authority has had the decency to address my negative experience directly. The baseless attacks on my character are unacceptable, and it's disheartening to see lies and opinions spread publicly without any attempt to understand my side of the story. I want to share my incredibly distressing experience at Lua Nova Salon. I walked in excited for a new hairstyle, having shown the stylist a picture of what I wanted--a long bob (LOB) with layers. However, from the very first cut, I sensed something was off. The stylist next to mine reacted with wide eyes, looking back and forth between my hair and the floor, which immediately raised my concerns. Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed as the stylist butchered my hair. Instead of the layers I requested, I left with a blunt cut short bob that was nothing like what I had envisioned. To make matters worse, I was asked to leave while still in shock and tears. My distress made the stylist uncomfortable--yes, MY tears over my butchered hair were making HER uncomfortable. I was asked to leave looking like this, which made the situation all the more horrifying. I can't believe I walked into a place where, within 15 minutes, all my hair was chopped off, and I was treated as if I were the issue. I felt dismissed and invalidated during a moment that was deeply personal to me. I cannot express how heartbroken I am over this experience. If I could give negative stars, I absolutely would. I strongly advise against sitting in Emma Carlson's chair, as my experience with her was nothing short of horrendous. Please be cautious if you decide to visit this salon. What was meant to be a fresh cut to help me take a step forward in overcoming my deep depression has only made things 20 times worse. I hope others have a better experience, but I certainly will not be returning. I will be surprised and blessed if I make it out of this one. This has truly been an absolute nightmare and one of the worst days of my life. The first picture is my hair before I walked in; the second is the picture I showed the stylist for reference. This is what I was kicked out looking like. I'm still crying over this at 9 PM and can't believe this happened. I balled up what hair is left and put it underneath a barbell cap, topped with a hooded sweatshirt. I can't even look in the mirror. My head is throbbing from how much crying I've done. I used to shop at this location close to the level of obsessiveness when I was growing up. Then I…read morestarted looking for more natural-ingredient cosmetics and generally buy all of my make-up in the co-ops. BUT, I do make a few exceptions, I love me some white wax-based eyeliner (& mascara & dark brown liquid eyeliner...just can't seem to find a natural match) and can't seem to find the sharpen-it-yourself white eyeliner anywhere else except via online. Most of the places that I look MIGHT carry a white eyeliner, but it's the rotating bottom that ALWAYS gets stuck when I use it. I want the old-fashioned kind. Pencil-sharpener style. I also got caught off-guard and sucked into Pinterest with some stunning hairstyles that I'd like to try. That way I can spend money on the hair accessories, try it out, and completely botch it up so that I'll let go of my fantasy of having the best hairdos (hairdon'ts) in the world. My trip could not have gone any better. Within moments of coming into the store, I was greeted and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I shared my 2-itemed list and was ushered to both locations with quick ease (I immediately felt thankful since I was unfamiliar with the "updated" layout of their store and it would have taken me much longer to find on my own). The white eyeliners ranged from $3.50-$20 (wha?). I was led to the $20 one and while it looked lovely, I KNEW there had to be more options to search out. Yeah, I found one for $3.50. And we were a match made in heaven. When it was time to purchase my items, I was greeted by a very welcoming and friendly woman. I shared my concern about one of the hair accessories that I was getting and not sure if it work out on me or not. She reassured me that I'd be able to return it. She was so authentically friendly and great that when she asked if I was part of the Ulta club, I decided to join even though I only by make-up 2x/year. But one never knows when Pinterest will influence them to come on in that much more. Anyway, I can see myself coming back because of the endless options and very friendly service.

When I…read moreasked the employee with a lip piercing if there were any available, she told me there wasn't and apologized. I then asked her a few other questions about what she thought I should use, and then she went on a long tangent about how I was going to burn my hair off despite the fact that I have been doing my hair at home for 3+ years. I explained this to her and even showed her photos of what I've done in the past, but she didn't care and continued to lecture me. In the end, she was trying to convince me to use the Ulta salon service, which I have never used in the past and always came out with healthy, even hair. It was just a very odd and upsetting experience, as she felt she knew more than I did about my own hair, and was attempting to pressure me into something I didn't want to do.

The haircut: Johnathan does a wonderful job at listening and learning about your own hair eccentricities beforehand so as to give you the best haircut experience. I usually get my haircut at one of those "run of the mill" shops, you know those type of places, where you may or may not get the same hair stylist and what you think your haircut should end up looking like is not always what you always get. At The Top Shave Lounge you not only get what you expect, but the end result is one of the best haircuts you'll ever receive!! The Traditional Shave Experience: This was actually my first shave experience at a barbershop and it did not disappoint. The Traditional Shave Experience included a hot towel treatment, aromatherapy, traditional wet shave, cool towel, hydrating toner, and moisturizer. As Johnathan said, you leave feeling like a super star!!! The shop: I loved the overall decor of the Top Shave Lounge. It really felt like an old-timey barbershop, as if your living during the prohibition era. Rustic wood paneling, old photos of barber shops, an antique barber chair and yes a barber pole. The decor along with jazz playing in the background gave a nice calming experience. The Top Shave Lounge also offers a full range of products from Art of Shaving line. Next time your lady says she's going to the spa or a salon(code for "I'm going to spend a pile of money") treat yourself to this speakeasy style of a barber shop, and yes you heard me right, you may just get a sip of whiskey....The Top Shave Lounge is more then just a barbershop, it's an experience!

When I called to inquire about pricing I was given so much detail by a warm, knowledgeable receptionist (April 2017). Kathy is another front desk gal and she is amazing!! She is always accommodating, patient and knowledgeable! Leah is not only a great hair stylist but she's a great listener, makes you feel comfortable/invited and she's extremely easy to talk to. Going to get my hair done in the past has always just been something 'I had to maintain' but now I enjoy going and catching up with Leah. My hair has never looked better and I've never felt better about my salon of choice. Lavish is a professional, clean, inviting, friendly salon with amazing passionate team members (it shows in the environment when you're there - I promise)! Highly recommended!

Leah is very skilled, probably the most talented colorist I have encountered in my 15 years of getting my hair done. I was devastated when Leah moved me off her books. She did this to focus on her hair extension business, and referred me to Emily Radford. I am currently brunette, with the request to make my way to blonde, I asked for highlights and provided a few inspirational pictures. What I received was very minimal, I could not see a change in my hair aside from 2 chunky highlights at the front of my hair. I understand it takes time to break up brown hair, but i received was unexpected. I was charged $348. Emily is young, new in her career, which I was happy to give her a chance. Moreover, Leah, the owner of the salon has never charged me over $220, and would exceed my expectations. I am extremely sad with the results from this time around, or lack of results rather. I asked for the situation to be made, right, and resolved but Emily said since too much time passed she will not fix or refund. Yes, it has been more than 7 days, but my hair is the same as it was when I walked out of the salon on 10/19, its still brunette, with no highlights except in the front. It took me until today, 12/3 to find the courage to say something about the situation. Lavish salon will charge with you steep unreasonable, unjustifiable prices, without any explanation or preparation of price point. I was blind sided by the price of $348. I cannot afford this price point for my hair, and I am still in need of getting my hair corrected, and will need to pay another salon to make this right. I feel taken advantage of. Save yourself the $ and time, don't go to this salon. Service was on 10/19/23 - after photos from a month later 11/19/23 & today 12/3/23.
