I came to this Ulta looking for hair toner, which I already knew was a bit of a gamble. When I asked the employee with a lip piercing if there were any available, she told me there wasn't and apologized. I then asked her a few other questions about what she thought I should use, and then she went on a long tangent about how I was going to burn my hair off despite the fact that I have been doing my hair at home for 3+ years. I explained this to her and even showed her photos of what I've done in the past, but she didn't care and continued to lecture me. In the end, she was trying to convince me to use the Ulta salon service, which I have never used in the past and always came out with healthy, even hair. It was just a very odd and upsetting experience, as she felt she knew more than I did about my own hair, and was attempting to pressure me into something I didn't want to do. read more

So many employees with no customer service. Maybe its some sort of new training I dont know about. Come to work, look pretty and try to have minimal or no interaction with customers. Only interact with other employees and talk about how your date went with Billy Bob Jr and make sure the customer hears you! And if a customer approaches you act shocked as if you have not seen them even though you guys have been basically standing shoulder to shoulder. I will be honest , the whole thing about employees talking about what Billy Bob Jr did x, y and z ,doesn't bother me. I go in and I grab what I need and bye! What bothers me about this location is WHERE ARE ALL YOUR PRODUCTS. Either the shelves are empty or half of the products have been clearly opened by a customer and no one has replaced them. I started to think maybe the reason they dont have much product is because their in a popular location, always busy. But even if that is true, that is no reason to have this place looking like a makeup aisle from Walmart, hot mess. Now remember what I wrote that " I dont care about employees talking about x y and z on Billy Bob Jr" , well i dont. What I do care is when you do approach them for help or whatever it is, its like your talking to a wall. Dont get me wrong not all of their employees are like this. The nice ones of course are busy with other customers ! Why? because their easy to approach OR the nice employee reached out to the confused looking customer. So all you have left are the Regina George's of Ulta. Just go to Target their always stupid busy but hey at least their shelves are stocked up. read more

Had an uncomfortable experience here where I felt I was being followed by an employee the entire 5-10 mins I was there. It was almost as if they were keeping an eye on me. She would sift between aisles and stay at the one closest to me. Wouldn't recommend going to this location unless you want to be followed around like a toddler. read more

I used to shop at this location close to the level of obsessiveness when I was growing up. Then I started looking for more natural-ingredient cosmetics and generally buy all of my make-up in the co-ops. BUT, I do make a few exceptions, I love me some white wax-based eyeliner (& mascara & dark brown liquid eyeliner...just can't seem to find a natural match) and can't seem to find the sharpen-it-yourself white eyeliner anywhere else except via online. Most of the places that I look MIGHT carry a white eyeliner, but it's the rotating bottom that ALWAYS gets stuck when I use it. I want the old-fashioned kind. Pencil-sharpener style. I also got caught off-guard and sucked into Pinterest with some stunning hairstyles that I'd like to try. That way I can spend money on the hair accessories, try it out, and completely botch it up so that I'll let go of my fantasy of having the best hairdos (hairdon'ts) in the world. My trip could not have gone any better. Within moments of coming into the store, I was greeted and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I shared my 2-itemed list and was ushered to both locations with quick ease (I immediately felt thankful since I was unfamiliar with the "updated" layout of their store and it would have taken me much longer to find on my own). The white eyeliners ranged from $3.50-$20 (wha?). I was led to the $20 one and while it looked lovely, I KNEW there had to be more options to search out. Yeah, I found one for $3.50. And we were a match made in heaven. When it was time to purchase my items, I was greeted by a very welcoming and friendly woman. I shared my concern about one of the hair accessories that I was getting and not sure if it work out on me or not. She reassured me that I'd be able to return it. She was so authentically friendly and great that when she asked if I was part of the Ulta club, I decided to join even though I only by make-up 2x/year. But one never knows when Pinterest will influence them to come on in that much more. Anyway, I can see myself coming back because of the endless options and very friendly service. read more

As a makeup hoarder and lipstick junkie, I stop here often (usually on payday, haha) to restock my supply or pick up new products. My main issue with this Ulta is that so many products are frequently out of stock. Recently Ulta was running this "21 Days of Beauty" promo which featured special gift sets/sample sizes of higher end brands (like Urban Decay, Benefit, etc.) at reduced prices. However, on the two different dates I went to get the featured special of the day, they were all sold out by 5:30 pm on a weekday. Sadface. Additionally, their base prices tend to be higher by at least a couple dollars (compared to Target next door, for instance) for drugstore brands (L'Oreal, Rimmel, etc.). They do have frequent sales though, so if you pay attention you can find some good deals. For example, last week Revlon products were 40% off (yay Lip Butters!!!). There's always some BOGO 50% off deals happening too, and they have little bonus perks and coupons if you're an "ULTAmate Rewards" member. Another thing about this place that bums me out is that there generally seems to be a ton of staff working, yet there is ALWAYS a huge line at the cash registers, and usually only one or two cashiers actually manning them. This means you're faced with their tempting display of products right in front of the registers. At times I've had questions (generally regarding whether something is in stock), but have been unable to find anyone to help me. Judging by the snippy attitudes of a lot of the customers who shop there, I think others find this frustrating as well. The staff just always seems frazzled, and I'm not sure what that's about. I shop at Sephora frequently as well and that place is always a madhouse, yet their staff is calm, helpful, and always available. So maybe it comes down to a management or training (or lack thereof) issue here. These gripes aren't enough to prevent me from shopping here; just be advised to be patient, look for the deals, and don't be too disappointed if that product you're looking for is out of stock. And if you don't have any luck here, Target and Sephora are right there as a backup plan. read more

I have never walked into an Ulta that was completely full of employees that wouldn't give customers the time of day and acted like they would rather be anywhere else, until I walked into this store. The actual Ulta makeup section was half empty making it impossible to find any product. The employees were hard to find and when you did see one they just ignored you. Checking out was an even better experience. One cashier just ignored us and eventually told us to go to a different till. So, I've always had an issue buying shampoo and conditioner because while they go on sale often, it's always when they are sold in a two-pack and I always end up with an extra bottle of one or the other. When they aren't on sale, they are quite a bit more expensive. Anyway, I was running dangerously low on conditioner the other day, and drove by Ulta and decided to see if they happened to have anything there at a reasonable price. I couldn't believe my eyes. The size I wanted, sold individually, at the typical sale price! I didn't interact much with the staff, since I found what I wanted immediately. There were quite a few people making purchases, but the wait wasn't too bad because they had three checkout registers open. I was in a hurry this time, but I will definitely be heading back to see what else they have to offer. read more

I must say the Ulta in Coon Rapids is awesome...I think all the staff is very helpful and friendly. They do run out of product fast - but workin in retail thats usually not their fault. CR has always been willing to call other stores and have them hold it or transfer an item for me. Also, Everyone in the salon is great! Just because you work in an Ulta salon doesnt mean you dont know what you are doing!!! Everyone went t school the prices are decent and I love that i can get fully body waxing or a facial done as well! ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE I went to ulta and had an extension hair consult. I was priced at $500, I had to pay upfront for the hair and pay shipping... which was ok and understandable. Tess was the one whom applied my extensions... Well she first put my extensions in wrong, and they hurt my head. She admitted to not putting them in before .... first red flag. I had to schedule an appt to get them taken out and put them back in 2 weeks after... So I went back and I HAD TO PAY for HER MISTAKE to get them replaced... UNBELIVEBALE... So, When I scheduled my follow up appointment for the regluing in extensions back in she told me the charge of maintaing the externsions to get them put back in after they grew out was $50, and then an additional $15 for the glue. I scheduled an appoinemtn for 6 weeks after the "fix" and expectedt to see a charge of (15+50) ..... My final bill after this third appointment was $300. I was furious. Tess said the cost was a misunderstanding/miscommunication.... She said she meant to say that it was $50.00 per pack of hair that was apllied... I had 5 packs put in... you do the math.. I left the store enraged, I did not leave a tip..... needless to say. She did a terrible job putting extensions back in. Already 3 have fallen out and it's not even been a week. I will never go to ulta salons again. She clearly hasn't has experience with extension application and charged me 4 times the amount for re applying them in for routine maîntence. They offered to give me 20% off a next salon visit. I will never give them my business again what a joke. read more

I came in the store today to return a makeup and moisturizer I bought a couple weeks back and was introduced to the most knowledgeable, helpful and high spirited employee ever! She really explained everything to me about what she recommended for my unique skincare issues and pointed out a couple key products that would give me the results I was looking for. She made samples for me to try and told me to come back afterwards and let her know how the products worked before I purchased again. She even color matched a new foundation for me. I'm so happy I came in the store today and really got to see the Ulta experience at work...I will most definitely be back for more...thanks Angie! read more

The thing I hate about ulta is that they always try to get you to buy something more expensive than what you need. I went in for a product that had good reviews and I always do my research before I even go to the store. When I went in, I couldn't find the product when I first entered the store so, I asked what I assumed to be a helpful person on the floor. Then that person right away said my product I wanted was no good and that I need to try this expensive product and that it'd be better and more natural. So what are you trying to say lady?? That I'm fake and don't know what I'm doing?! I am suspecting the lady that tried to help me was a brand sales associate and not an actual ulta employee. I know what I need and I don't want your expensive crap!!! Then this dingy lady couldn't find it anywhere and didn't know what she was doing and she said they don't make that product. Being in the same industry as they are, even if you repeat yourself, ALWAYS ask someone if they needs help or have any questions! I just discovered Ulta, and didn't know they had a salon. I'm getting married in a few weeks so I thought they might be an economical way to get some beauty treatments done before the big day. Plus, they had 25% off going on for first time users. Hooray! I wanted microdermabraison and an eyebrow wax. Nothing was terrible (I still have my eyebrows!) but there were several very irritating things that have led me to write this review. 1) I have to make the appt online. No biggie. I've discovered that with a lot of places these days, but as a newbie, really wanted someone to talk through my options. But, I signed on, created an account, selected the $67 service that I wanted from the drop down bar, yada yada, got it done. Irritating, but not a dealbreaker. 2) Two days before my appt I get a call, stating that they don't have microdermabraison at the salon I selected, but would I be interested in a chemical peel? Since I specifically wanted a microdermabraison (had them before, knew what I was getting into), I turned them down, asked if they could give the number of a salon that could do it. She couldn't tell me if they had space available (why does the customer have to make an appt online if the staff can't access it/make it useful?) Luckily, found this Ulta, which is also nearby that did it and could take my appointment. Irritating, but not a dealbreaker. 3) When I called the new place, I explained the situation, how I was switching my reservation over from the first salon, explained that I wanted microderm and an eyebrow wax. Great! they said, we can do that. We'll set you up for the eyebrow wax first. However, after I get the eyebrow wax they say they that I can't get microderm on my brow line (which is where most of my lines are). Didn't the receptionist tell me this when I booked the appointment? No, they did not. Had I known that, I would've done the microderm first and come back another time for the wax. Irritating. 4) When the service was complete, I looked at the ticket and was not only charged full price (no first-timer discount), I was charged $10 over the stated price on the brochure for the most expensive item on the list (microderm PLUS facial), which is NOT what I signed up for on the website. I mentioned this, and the beautifician said she "added a facial". I had no idea that that moisture mask whatever wasn't a part of the package, but shame on me for not asking when she did it. Why $10 over? She said that since she was "more experienced" she got a higher premium, didn't the booking agent mention that? Yet another thing this mystical booking agent didn't tell me. I asked her why it doesn't say that on the brochure? Oh, those are guidelines she says. Oh really? I'm thinking that's a nice way to charge your customers whatever you like. Seeing the look on my face, the beautician gave me the new person discount plus 5% off. I understand paying more experienced people what they're worth, but why do you have prices on you brochures if you're not going to honor them? Where was the fantastic booking agent I was supposed to have talked to? If I had booked an appointment ONLINE who would they have had to blame? I felt mishandled and dropped through the cracks of their silly "booking system". Look, I understand you get what you pay for. If I wanted premium service I could've gone somewhere much more expensive. I just didn't expect to be taken for such a ride. If you go here, confirm the exact nature of your service, confirm the price and when/if the pricing shenanigans start, speak to a manager. I will likely not return for any services. read more

Recently went to this location as it is only 2 minutes from my home, I have always gone to maple grove location but figured I'd go here to save time. Big mistake! Ended up costing me frustration and more time cause I walked out and drove to maple grove. The staff working here are a bunch of jokes, I asked a question regarding an Anastasia contour kit as I love all the other products by her, in a half a second she said oh my god all her product is terrible, I wouldn't waste my money on it. Really? She didn't seem to want to help me so just was negative in hopes I'd ask no more questions. Well I grabbed my dior mascara and Anastasia eyebrow stuff and went to check out, I was the only one at check out and the woman behind counter was too distracted by her phone or something. I stood there about a minute and she didn't even make eye contact with me. So I set the items down and said apparently no one likes their job here cause no one is willing to help me or check me out. I came to enjoy an ulta salon service but everything went horribly wrong very quickly. A month ago, I scheduled an appointment for a trim and style. The stylist was warm and friendly so I was happy to sit in her chair. She asked me about history of my hair, what kind of shape I'd like and how much I was hoping to trim off. We agreed on a 1/2 inch trim. She washed and conditioned my hair, made product recommendations and promptly sat me in her chair. This is when it all went wrong! She lopped off 4 inches of my hair in the back and then asked me if i was ok with the new length ( I WASN'T! )but what can we do from here? She had already cut off many months of healthy promising hair. She continued to cut through the top and sides, measuring and measuring, cutting and cutting. Finally she was done and I hated everything about the unflattering cut. It wasn't until I got home that i realized that the left side was drastically longer than the right so not only do i hate the short length and horrendous shape, I have to endure another cut to even it all out. My experience was terrible and regret ever stepping foot in the salon. Beware. read more
