Walking in brought back memories of being a kid and coming here for bats, cleats, gloves, and whatever I needed for the next season. Experiences like this make it feel like childhood sports aren't completely gone in the age of online shopping. The selection is still what I remember, a little bit of everything for a wide variety of sports and seasons. The employee working the counter on Labor Day was polite, personable, knowledgeable, and quick. I also appreciate that this is still a place where you can walk in and pick up something sports-related quickly or at the last minute without breaking the bank or waiting for an online order. Five stars for keeping a little piece of that childhood sports experience alive.

This lasted a few minutes until she went behind a door to continue her conversation for pretty much my entire time in store (over 40 minutes, and yes I could hear her laughing on the phone while I was walking out). There was only 2 other people in the store working, and maybe 3 other customers. The staff that were actually working were very helpful, and helped my wife find the shoe she was looking for. I wasen't going to write a review, but we came in on a separate visit trying to get a duffle, the Same Manager was actually on the sales floor (surprise) and we had asked her if she could bring us one down one so we could look at it. She was right next to them, and instead called a younger employee to grab it down with some big stick that was by the front door. Why were we made to wait??? Why couldn't you do it??? I've seen stores that were going out of business with more attentive management. I advise going to the other big 5's as this one has poor customer service starting from the top!

I've always liked this store. It's large, the prices are good, and the employees are generally…read morefriendly. However, several issues have been making my shopping experience increasingly uncomfortable. I often feel like I'm being watched. When I walk down an empty aisle, someone seems to appear almost immediately, and they stand very close to me. The self‑checkout area is especially uncomfortable -- the employee there watches me so closely that it feels accusatory. I've never stolen anything in my life; I'm the person who turns in lost cell phones. This is the only store where I ever feel this way, and it's discouraging. The large blue baskets employees push around are another concern. I've been bumped or hit by them more than once. Recently, an item I canceled at checkout was accidentally left in my cart by an employee. I drove back to return it because I didn't want anyone to get in trouble, but the situation added to my frustration. The produce section also needs improvement. Some items are fine, but the potatoes are often old, and the lettuce is frequently wilted. The layout of the produce area makes things worse -- the slanted tables and narrow pathways cause constant congestion, and customers end up bumping into each other. I hope these issues can be addressed. I like this store and want to continue shopping here but thinking of changing to a different store. The overall experience has become stressful. Improving the layout, produce quality, and customer interactions would make a big difference.

So for the past year basically, I've been researching and demo-ing boards cause I like to try before I buy. I had no idea how popular Torq surfboards were because I was calling shop after shop and the answer was the same "Sorry we're all sold out but the next batch coming in is XX date". I feel extremely lucky to happen upon this shop because what were the chances they'd have the exact BRAND, MODEL, SIZE, and COLOR??? Plus it was like one of the last ones (if not, the last one) in stock at the store. The universe has answered my wishes. The staff was super friendly and easy to talk to as well!

My son and I are novice fisherman taking a trip to Northern Tier with our scout troop to fish the boundary waters on the Minnesota / Canada border for Bass and Walleye for a week. Went into the store with my son and asked for a lot of basic advice on what the minimum setup was to have success since we are limited on what gear we can bring. The staff was really helpful going over basic lures and how they are supposed to be rigged with some examples from behind the counter. I did not get the impression they were trying to oversell or sell stuff we did not need. If they were not sure about an answer (for example the first guy we talked with was more familiar with salt vs. freshwater fishing) he did not try to fake an answer and directed me to other staff who were more knowledgable. So if you are beginning or a novice this tackle shop is a good stop to get you setup vs. buying random stuff off amazon. I'll be recommending the place to the rest of my 6 man crew as well as other crews from my troop that will be going to Northern tier later in the year. My one piece of advice for the staff is to be more proactive in engaging customers to see if they have questions. I know it can be a balance between giving customer space and hovering over them like a car salesman but in general us beginner / novice fisherman can get easily overwhelmed with the different assortments of tackle and appreciate the advice. If you are a customer note the store vibe is more on the side of letting you browse freely and engaging only if you ask for help.
