I was happy to find out I could purchase an 'Adventure Pass' for the Cleveland Forest Recreation area at Big 5. The young man that helped me out was extremely polite and helpful. I was also asked while browsing the store if I needed help. It's not a fancy large sporting adventure store, but it has some really good basics at reasonable prices like seasonal clothing (Puff jackets, gloves, swimsuits, goggles, etc.), a decent shoe department, camping items, sporting goods and active wear. A small store considering it's name is Big 5! They always have a good variety of shoes on sale as well as clothing for any type of activity. Lots of guns for hunting. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Used to come here decades ago to buy running shoes or basketball shoes. Who remembers Turntec!? They were the most comfortable shoes in the world... reasonably priced too. Still a good place to buy quality Dickie's shirts and shorts. They just recently added quality underwear... I went with my kids for soccer cleats and they guy who was helping gave me baseball cleats which my son wore today for practice and during that his coach found it's wrong cleats so I too back to store with receipt and manager literally said he can't take bcoz it waa used .. A great place to shop for outdoor gear. We've been here several times to grab some snow gear for the family. They have great deals on end of the season clearance items such as snow jackets and boots. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We went there today to grab a couple pairs of athletic shoes for the kids and they had some deals. Nice to be able to roll in there and not have to wait around for a staff member to grab you the right size. Other stores like Dick's sporting goods and REI are swarming with customers standing around waiting for a staff to help out. I've always been a fan of Big 5! I used to live in Rancho Bernardo about 21 years ago and I have always gone to that specific one. It's not that busy it's in a good area the employees are really nice they have a great selection on tennis shoes all the time great sales! Post pandemic I feel bad though for the employees because they are short staffed and you know nobody wants to work but they're making it the employees are happy they have a good attitude they take care of the customer I would highly recommend coming to this Big 5. read more

This store has really bad customer service! I looked on line because I was looking for some shorts for my husband and on line it said the stock was low to call the store. I called put some on hold. I went in on my lunch just to be told they don't have them. I called to speak to the manager and she just sucks and shouldn't be a manager. She asked I was sure I called that store and said yes. she then said "understood,ok bye" Like really!! I work in customer service and I wouldn't even give that response to any of my customers. I never knew there was a 'Big 5 Sporting Goods' near my area and I have never stepped into one before ! Thanks to my trusty Yelp app. I found this place for hiking boots and other essentials. I called ahead of time to make sure they carried hiking boots and the lady on the phone was very helpful and nice. Good vibes already ! Located at a shopping center and had ample parking. Right from the moment I walked in I was greeted with smiles and was asked for assistance. A young gentleman showed me the section for hiking boots. Unfortunately, they didn't have that much of a selection for women's hiking boots (bummer), but the ones they did have had fairly reasonable prices. I was given some recommendations on the type of hiking boots to get for this particular hike (i.e. Three Sisters Falls) and I tried on a pair that I immediately felt had the best look and price point for my budget. I ended up getting the HI-TEC Gunnison Women's Hiking Boots. This was a horrible experience. I went in for a return, I had my receipt. The manager would not let me explain why I wanted to return the item, I had the receipt yet again she did not let me explain. To be frank, she treated me like a second class citizen as if I did not belong in America. This may not have been her intention yet her dirty stares and quick responses, cutting me off not letting me explain sure felt like that. I just simply wanted to return this product for my money back, I had the receipt yet she didn't even scan anything. So I'm thinking why didn't she except the return (or attempt the return by scanning the item and the receipts and checking the product)? The item was 100% fine in the original package, maybe because they were low on sales that month. I don't know. Yet, this does not give the manager the right to treat me like dirt. She sent me away out of the store with a stare that made me look non-human and said a meaningless "sorry." She didn't return the item, did not scan the item, nor the receipts just sent me quickly away even when it wasn't busy. The cashier was standing next to the manager where the cashier was cringing (as I saw her react in my peripheral vision). Yeah, I would cringe as well if this kind of treatment happened to anyone. If I was being loud and obnoxious then I would understand the tit for that, but no, I was calm and collective. I don't want to write a bad review for any store (yet alone waste my time writing this), yet I write this here so that the manager would change her treatment of customers maybe she treats minorities only like this. If so, I don't want other minority groups or anyone to face the same treatment as I did. Imagine, my mother who doesn't have the most perfect English went into the store and she was treated like I was, I would want her to avoid this store so she wouldn't be emotionally hurt. It's cool if you don't want to return the item, yet treat me like a human being and give me the benefit of the doubt in the process. Thereafter, I drove the extra miles from RB to Convoy to another Big 5. The manager was super nice, he heard me out on everything on why I wanted to return it, checked the item, scanned the receipt and gave me my money back. What a great manager who treats others as he would probably want to be treated. If you do not want to be ill treated you may want to go to a Big 5 other than the one in RB. Fairly small with limited selections. There were only a couple of customers and kids running around at the time, so this business was not busy. I talked my colleague to come with to see whether or not they had hydration packs for running. There were several employees working, but it seemed as though they were too involved in their own conversations to assist. My friend actually had to ask an employee if they carried the packs. The first employee didn't know and we were led to another employee who knew exactly what we were looking for. The selection was limited so decided to pass on buying my pack here. read more

We went in looking for sleeping bags. I'd initially been scouring Amazon for sleeping bags but realized I'd rather check out the materials in person. Luckily, Big 5 has a decent selection of sleeping bags and many were on sale. We scored a Coleman sleeping bag with a retail price of $45 for around $28. Oh and do a Google search for Big 5 coupons, we got an additional 10% off our order (coupon does need to show the terms and restrictions be it printed out or on your phone). The gentleman that helped us was kind and was able to pull down a box we needed from up high on a ladder without falling! Checkout was pretty simple. Lack of customer service. Back in 2018 a Christmas gift from my daughter in NY, Nike shorts. I returned the items in 2019 and was issues a store credit gift card. Went to use the girt card for a purchase and was denied the purchase using the issued gift card. I was told that the card was on hold until I could provide a receipt? I explained that they were a gift and my daughter couldn't find the receipt plus she paid with cash. I was basically told until I could provide a receipt too bad. 2021 Went into the store to return a pair of shoes. I was denied a return until I could speak to customer service. Even though I HAD A RECEIPT. The process took 1 1/2 to 2 hours because customer service shuts down for lunch? Finally processed my return to my credit card. 2022. Purchased 5 cans Oxygen, went to return 2 WITH A RECEIPT AGAIN on Feb 15 2022. My return was denied until I spoke to customer service. I was questioned about my return again. This time taking approx. 40 minutes to process my return. I asked Kianna ?  How we can get this resolved so I don't have to go through this again. I was told. PROVIDE A RECEIPT for the returned items. I stated, I feel Big 5 has taken from me, I returned items that were given to me, Big5 issues a store gift card to me and then turned around and put the card on hold until I can provide a receipt for the items I gave back. Which had a approx balance of $43.00? Kianna stated again, provide a receipt from 2018-2019. Kianna stated she was going to talk to her supervisor and call me back. As of 02/18/2022, NO return call. It's amazing to me the way Big 5 has handled this from the start of 2018-2019. Negative feed platforms does go a long way in todays society, which will happen. WHY, because BIG5 and their customer service is far below the standards of what customer service is about. Well First I come here to look for what type of Sports Stuff they have here and they do have quite a selection and the thing they are short on is selection of Pro Sports Jerseys which I would say it would be much better Of they do have that . But they carry all other sorts of sports stuff here such as . Sports Bags , Baseball equipment and hats , Basketballs , Footballs , Fishing Rods , Shoes , Swimming equipment and Trunks. Plus they do carry Snowboarding equipment and Clothing. Plus lots of other sports stuff !! This is just to name a Few !! But when I come here The prices are a little high but if your looking for a cheap pair of shoes then this is the spot . Seriously one of the worst customer experiences I've had in a while. I walked around the store and when I couldn't find an item I went to the front. There was a girl and a guy working near the registers. I asked and they both just looked at me. Then the girl looked at the guy and he said to her, "I'm clocking out." I came to the conclusion she was on register and could not leave her area. After a few silent moments I said. "Can you just tell me where to find them?" I headed where I was directed and didn't see them. I was there for a good few minutes and during this time I saw the guy helping another customer. Wow buddy I thought you were "clocking out."
