I'm overjoyed to say that I've found my new local med spa and dermatologist!…read more I had become quite addicted to getting monthly facials which, at a med spa is an entirely different experience. I love getting oxygen facials and a variety of others that I just discovered last spring when I signed up for a subscription plan at the spa close to home in New York. Upon moving back to NOLA, I searched Yelp for a med spa with a subscription plan and immediately made my appointment. A subscription plan is nice because going monthly is key to keeping your skin in tip top shape. Admittedly I haven't done much more than use good products throughout my adulthood but now I'm a believer! I also get the occasional laser Genesis treatments (evens skin tone, erases fine lines et), which Hickham has here as well. It's the least invasive laser (honestly, I always think lasers hurt) and leaves you positively glowing. My appointment was with Dawn and she was great! We did dermaplaning and the laser Genesis and I left loving my positively dewy skin. No downtime with Laser Genesis either. Hickham offers two kinds of subscription services, one for facials and one for laser treatments and microneedling (which is a little scary for me but I may check it out eventually). Both plans get you discounts on other products and services at the spa. I also visited with Dr. Hickham for that oh-so-crucial full body scan, which was quick and easy. I'll definitely be going back to her if and when I need to as she made me feel super comfortable. I'll be back regularly!

I don't do one star reviews very often, but...there are some things that when they are bad, they're…read morereally, really bad. A gynecologist appointment is one of those things. You don't want the details so I'm just going to run through this quickly: - I wasn't seen until an hour and a half after my appointment. - I was told to walk up to a window, where the woman behind it put a plastic cup on the ledge and AS A I REACHED FOR IT, grabbed my hand, turned it over and swabbed and jabbed my finger for the blood test. Unreal. - Peed in the cup and then...more waiting. - Finally the doctor came in...but he wasn't the doctor. He was an intern? A med student? I didn't care. Someone who knows more than I did was here to do my exam. - He asked some routine "yes or no" questions. He did a pap smear test, which I had told him was the most important thing I needed, and then took his gloves off and said, "Okay, you can go." But WAIT, pre-doc! I had other questions and things to discuss, things to check out! I've been here two hours at this point and I don't want to waste the time I just lost without getting a thorough check-up. He was gone. There was no point. I didn't even go back for my pap results. I'm going to find a real gyno and never go back to the Vagina DMV.

I had a huge panel of tests to take that required an overnight fast for 10 hours. I had also been…read moresent home with some DIY tests that I was asked to bring with and turn in to the lab upon arrival. (stool test-ew!!) While I knew the lab was across the street from Main Campus, I did make one wrong turn before I found where I was supposed to go. They could really use numbers on the buildings to help navigate people. There was only a half dozen people in the waiting area in a huge space that could easily hold hundreds. I checked in at the main desk with two friendly, kind and communicative women. All of my check ins with receptionists have all been positive, and informative/helpful. I completed my urinalysis collection on site and waited to be called. I turned in all my DIY tests and sat to have my blood drawn. I verified my information about a hundred times, but it also helped distract me from the needle. No one likes needles, really. I had 5 vials taken and when she was wrapping up my arm she chose a teal tape to match my shirt. On the previous Monday, the phlebotomist picked pink to also match my shirt. It's the little things that go a long way to make us feel human, rather than a number. Again, I was in and out in no time and felt that I was on the right path to taking care of my own health.
