Stay away from this place!!! They will RIP U OFF!!! Stopped by to ask how much to change spark plugs? My car never had overheating issues. But all of a sudden while I was waiting there for about 10 mins. The mechanic finally came out and said my coolant was leaking! Opened the hood and coolant was spewing out of reservoir tank! He said I needed to change Water Pump, Timing Belt, Radiator, and Thermostat! Total cost 2K !!! I need my car for work so I didn't have a choice. 3 days after coming home from work " 22 miles both ways" each day, coolant was spewing out of reservoir again!!! I topped off coolant and it happen again and again every 3rd day of driving for a total of around 66 miles each time. Had to take my car back 4 different times on my days off! Still they can't find anything wrong with it?? Finally today 12/26/24 I was ready to let them keep my car for 3 days so they can find out what causing this? The owner Dat Pham called 3 hrs later n said he need to change 4-5 more parts = $350. But he refuse to tell me what parts? I said ok, if I get this done will the problem be solved? He said he doesn't know? It could be a leaking Head Gasket? So i said test it, too see if that's what need to be done? His answer is no, its very hard diagnose and wanted to change these unknown parts first to see if it works??? After paying 2K and now I having coolant spilling over every 3 days! I bought a total of 4 gallons of coolant so far too keep topping off my radiator until I can find a good mechanic that knows what they are doing!! I got RIPPED OFF!!! Don't go here!!! Now I found out there's a bunch of Auto Shop places right across street! On the south side of a street call MORAN at the light from this shop. You been WARNED!!! read more

I would recommend everyone avoid this place like the plague! Got quoted $80 for a serpentine belt replacement which is what most other shops were quoting me, but I decided to give Vn Auto Repair a shot since it was the only shop that could do the job the same day I called. I dropped my car off around 12:30pm and was told it was a quick job they just needed to order the part, I receive a call around 4pm being told that they couldn't replace the belt because the tensioner was damaged (this is exactly when I knew they were trying to scam me). The owner that had originally quoted me $80 just to replace the serpentine belt then has the audacity to tell me that in order to replace the belt the tensioner must be replaced first and that it would be and extra $300. I ended up telling the owner no thank you, picked up my car, and got the heck out of this shady shop. The following day I took my car to a shop across the street (right next to the fire station) and this shop was able to take care of the serpentine belt replacement for the same price, no up-sale or shady practices whatsoever. Came here to get oil change for my E92 M3. Shop owner Dat came out to introduce himself to me and talk for a bit as his employees were working on my car. Pretty personable and explained how he specialized in German cars. Oil change didn't take more than 30 mins but I did come first thing in the morning. Rates are reasonable but an oil change is pretty straightforward. Asked for his advice regarding another issue on my car and he was more than willing to help. Next thing I know my car is ready and they even pulled it out front so I didn't have to walk to the back. Would definitely come back here if I needed work done on my car that is not covered under warranty. Only thing that could be improved is that his employees don't seem to speak much English. read more

I brought in my bimmer once someone mentioned this place to me this place was authorized to do BMWs My Z4 had an issue where the sensor keep beeping even when I had my seat belt on or off. It was driving me crazy. I finally brought it in with the intention to get that fixed along with a brake fluid change as well. When I arrived, someone greeted me right away. They ordered the parts needed and made a deposit. I paid $120 for the deposit and break fluid and was to bring in back in when the parts came in. They called me within two days and the parts were there. I came back after my vacation and they took my car right away. I dropped it off at 4pm and they were to close at 6pm. I came back the following day when they were closing and I was able to pick up my car and pay the rest. In total for fixing my sensor and doing the brake fluids, it was about $400. I thought the pricing was very good comparing to other places that were authorized that quoted me. The guy working there was very nice and professional. I saw another girl with a Scion TC come in to just do her oil change and she was in and out. They don't really have a waiting area except for the outside of their shop. There's two chairs, a table, and an umbrella. I didn't mind since the pricing here is pretty good. Overall, I recommend and would come back. read more

Made an appointment for a week later. First off I was referred here by a friend. I called asking if they could replace engine mounts on my car. The guy said he'll call me back in 10 minutes with the answer. 30 minutes passed and I still haven't got a call back. I decided to try and call tomorrow for an answer. I called them and the same guy picked up said, "Oh you called yesterday right?" I replied with yes and asked him if he could do it. He gave me the same reply and said he'll give me a call back because it's busy. Again 30 minutes passes and still no call back. I called the next day asking the same thing and he answered with "Yeah come bring the car in right now" I drove there and when I got there he told me he couldn't replace my engine mounts. Went in to get an oil change and brake lights fixed! Sadly the front desk was just sitting around on the phone and wasn't able to answer anything. It's so unprofessional! They got it fixed.. but didn't go beyond looking at anything else about my car. The next two days, I had a flat tire in the middle of the highway. I bring it to American tires and they state all my tires needs to be changed and the transmission needs to be changed. This place just needs to do what needs to be done but does not go above and beyond to check anything else. read more

The mechanics here are really friendly and they have your best interest in mind. Out of all the places that I've been to get my car checked, they've given me the pros and cons to doing anything and gave me the best deal on any work that I required. I got my 2002 BMW 325i Towed to VN Auto Repair because my car wouldn't start up and I was stranded on UCI's campus. I'm just not too satisfied due to the fact that I paid $100 dollars for him to simply tell me "Buy a new key". Few days later my check engine light came on again and my rpm was unsteady. I just wonder what I paid him to do? I asked if there was any way to cut the cost because I'm a broke ass college student that has to buy another key for ~$200 bucks and I it wasn't my first time as a client here. EDIT: Changing my 3 stars to a 4. Originally 3 cause I guess he did the job but I just feel a bit ripped off. When I came in to get my car he was talking to someone he knew and kind of just blew me off a little bit. I assume it was unintentional but I just didn't feel too good with the interaction. Now 4 just because I got some extra insight on how other german autoshops work compared to this one. Hopefully the next time I come to him, I can leave a perfect review like all the other yelpers on his page. read more

I took my 2014 VW Passat 1.8 Turbo here with an EPC and engine light on, and car misfiring. After a day, they say it's the ignition coil. So, they replaced one coil. $270. After about a week, same problem comes back again. They were still saying it's the coils, so I forked over another $280, to replace the remaining 3 coils. About another week later, same problem came back. So, this tells me that they didn't diagnose the problem correctly at all, in the first place. I gave them one more chance to diagnose it, and then, they said it's the fuel injectors. They gave me the choice of one injector for $450, or all 4 for $1200. I took my car back, and didn't do the repair. I will follow up on this, after the problem is eventually fixed, and write whether or not the injectors turn out to be the problem. In all the diagnostic literature I found online, there is no mention of injectors causing EPC and engine lights to go on. So, based on that information, I chose not to do the $450, or $1200 repair. This shop is a two man operation. I don't know how they tried to diagnose my car, or if they have a VW specific code reader/computer. I also don't know how much experience they have with VW's. But, all in all, they were wrong the first time, in their diagnosis. I have since ordered a Throttle body, and Oil pressure switch, camshaft position sensor, and PCV valve. I will replace all these myself, at a cost of about $150 for parts. If I'm wrong, ok, I'll take the car to the next stop: Matt's VW specialist right here in Huntington Beach. I'll follow up once the car is fixed, for a definitive answer, as to whether VN was right or wrong about wanting to charge me another $1200 for injectors. One final note: There were many bottles of liquor, some empty, some half full, in the work area, on a shelf. I'm not morally against drinking, but, I think it's unprofessional to have alcohol right out on display where the customers can see it. I know this is a small shop, but, at least, they could put this all in a cabinet out of public view. read more

I've been bringing my cars to Dat since 2010. A few months back my Subaru's AC was blowing hot air so I drove to Dat's shop. On the way there, smoke started coming from the hood and the temperature light was flashing. I immediately pulled over to inspect and unfortunately there was a huge crack in my radiator causing coolant to leak out every where. I had the car towed to Dat's shop. He and his mechanic fixed my car and I picked it up the next day. That was such a relief since Ubering to work is expensive. Thank you so much Dat!! read more

As crappy as my 2000 Toyota Solara is, the people at this shop take care of it. Dat and his crew are trustworthy, honest people who don't try to shake you down. I've gotten my brakes done, and oil changed there many times with no fuss or upselling. An especially enlightening experience was when they replaced a slightly dysfunctional used catalytic converter they installed 3 months prior (it was only setting off my engine light, no discernible performance issues), no fuss, free of charge. (Me: "The engine light is on" Dat: "Ok, let me take a look. *15 minutes passes* The catalytic converter isn't working properly. I'll order the part now and we'll install it no charge." The only con is that most mechanics here don't speak a ton of English, but Dat speaks English just fine. read more

Called and brought my truck there. The owner was obnoxious. He gave me wrong diagnostic of my car's problem and want to charge me for unnecessary repair. I got my second opinion from the dealer and he got the nerve to tell me that the dealer doesn't know anything. Thank god I took my car to the dealer and got the problem solved. If I let this guy repairs my car, I would have been out an extra $4,000 for his wrong diagnostic. He can do oil change or replace brakes but I wouldn't trust him with any major works. read more

I feel that VN Auto Repair really deserves a great review for their excellent care and honest service on my car. I was actually driving from out of town and noticed my AC not working well. When I checked under the hood, there may have been a radiator leak. I initially stopped at another shop nearby and they made me wait 40 min just for a consult. I ended up leaving and found VN Auto Repair. They took care of me straight away, diagnosed the issue, and quoted me significantly less than the other auto repair shops I called. Hi I went on yelp and reading the review first thing that sold me was "honest" that is the golden word in my book. I got my car fix elsewhere and they mess up my wheel barring. I made an appointment when I got there within 15 mins they address the issue and cost out the door. I left my car and that day they called me and inform me I had other issues and I was like man not another shop trying to hustle me again. But he told me what it would cost and what most shop would do and it would've cost me $$$ . But he said he will do his best and when I got back my car . It was less then the original cost and on top he fix the other issue and I got a discount for finding him on yelp. I've been reading all the reviews here below and everyone consider this man, Dat, an honest person? Unfortunately he is not. I know some of you guys will ignore this review as it's just mine vs everyone else. I had to get some car issues fixed as my go to mechanic was not in town that day so i ended up here based on reviews. While i was waiting to get a quote outside; he walked around his friends gossiping and laughing to his employees that some of the customers here are idiot and that some of work is "easy money." I had a simple belt replacement and he quoted me $220.00. Keep in mind he always play the oldest trick in the book to convince us to get the newer part "i can rebuild for 220.00 but for and additional 30.00 more i can get a new part"... I also had an AC problem where he quoted me $500.00. I went down the street to another mechanic. Charged me $60.00 to replace the belt and $20 to fix the AC as all i needed was pressure. This "honest" man you guys called almost screwed me sideways. Will not come back. to be fair, if you own a luxury german car, go to him as i think he has that specialty, but if you have a domestic car, try bolsa auto repair and/or v&h auto all within 2 miles radius. I brought my Mercedes S class to code a used shifter because another mechanic told me that Dat could do it. After keeping my car for 3 weeks, yes 3 weeks!! Dat finally told me to change the whole car wire harness since the Transmission Control module could not communicate with the shifter I brought. I took the car back after paying him $60 for the trouble and later realized that my Mercedes windshield sun shade was not in the car, go figure. When I picked up my car, it was unlocked and was parked in a public parking space. I wanted to sue him but by posting a comment here will be more helpful to others. read more

After checking for BMW auto shops, I settled on Vn due to all the reviews. My 06 3 series hit 100k miles and needed spark plugs changed. I had bought the spark plugs from online but never got the chance to install them. But after starting my car one day with the check service light on and violent shaking, I knew I had to take it in. I came to Dat and he assured me that he would be able to change the spark plugs that I provided and even connected my car to a code reader to make sure that the shaking was due to a faulty coil. He didn't try to sell me anything nor insisted if I wanted to change my microfilter or brake fluids which had service lights on. Total cost was only $290 after taxes which is cheap for BMW service so I will definitely come back to Dat in the future. read more
