I was really excited to have Suzy work on my virgin hair after seeing some of the work she'd done on some of my friends. However, unfortunately I was not a fan of her work on me, specifically the color. When she showed me the result at the salon I was satisfied because it was close to what I had stated I wanted. However, by the evening that same day, my hair was already beginning to turn into this ugly orange color. I contacted her the following day and she was able to see me that same day to apply more toner. However, within a day or two my hair was back to the same ugly orange. I hated it! I regret not contacting her and having it fixed, however, due to my busy work schedule and the fact that I reside San Diego, it would be difficult to keep driving back up especially if the solution was only to apply more toner. My experience was not all negative, however, Suzy is very welcoming and kind, her salon is very cute and clean and she really takes her time and the work did not feel rushed. In summary: Pros: - Suzy is kind and welcoming even when I expressed concerns about the color she quickly booked me for the next day to attempt and fix it at no additional cost (however this was only a temporary solution as my hair went back to the same ugly color within a few days) - cute and clean salon Cons: - limited availability, not very flexible for someone who works full time, when I booked my appt Sept 2021 she had no weekend or evening availability, I think shes only available like 3-4 weekdays not sure if this is something that has changed - pricey for the quality - I ended up paying $500+ for a RezoCut with no wash ($125) and highlights ($350) and some products she recommended ($75) plus the tip. Now, if I loved the work I wouldn't have mind paying that amount but the fact that I paid that much for a look that I ended up hating is very disappointing. Will be hard to trust anyone else with coloring my hair after this experience! As far as the cut, I wasn't very happy with that either, I had gotten a DevaCut before at another salon and preferred the other ladies' work. Suzy is not perfect. She did a good my first cut but there after her cuts were poor. I had two bad hair cuts with her. The first offense, I chalked it to a bad day so I had to go shorter than I wanted to in order to make the correction. However, the second bad hair cut made me quit Suzy. I had to find another stylist to fix her mistakes. Suzy had created a major shelf and gap in my hair. We went to address her about it but she did not have a good response for why she messed up so bad. She attempted to fix it again but to no avail and we had to stop bc it was getting shorter and shorter. I was trying to grow my hair and obviously was devastated. This haircut she tried to fix it twice. Please note, I waited to write this post; however, I felt it was time to come forward and share with everyone. I have pictures to share as well. Again, Suzy is far from perfect. She was nice up until we had to speak with her about the bad hair cuts. With that said, no she certainly isn't worth $325 plus. In fact no hair stylist should be charging that much. My new stylist has similar training and only chargers $150. Suzy appears to be better with certain curl patterns versus others and per the other low rating patron, 3C and up doesn't seem to be her strong suit. If I had looser curls I'd certainly have her cut my hair bc she seems to have a better handle on wavy hair. One more thing to take note of is that during my cuts with her, she never allowed me to look at the way she cut the back of my hair. She would only allow me to see the front of my hair. I shared this with my new stylist and she said that should not have been happening. The most important part of the hair cut is the back. I hope she has stopped or will stop doing this. We have the right to see all angles of our hair and it's not honest to hide your mishaps from us. read more

*edit for update - Suzy contacted me right after my review and apologized that she didn't see my messages on FB or email. We scheduled another visit to make some changes. Still not perfect but much better. I didn't want to have to cut it too short to get the shape I want so I'll return later once it grows out more. Thank you Suzy for being a great person and working with me. I wanted to love VMA Curls so much, but I'm a bit disappointed. I was gifted a consult and cut with Suzy from my mom for Xmas since it's so expensive. The scheduling process was really easy and Suzy is super friendly and kind. The salon is great and her personal touches are wonderful. While I did learn a few things from Suzy, which I greatly appreciate, I feel like 45min was so fast for $275 consult and cut. But my biggest issue is I specifically discussed how my lower curls are a lot tighter than my top curls. I was getting 12-14 inches cut, so I wanted to be clear how the curls change once the weight is taken off my hair. Suzy said it's normal to have different curls textures, but then ended up cutting my hair at the same length across the back, making my lower half curl under the top half once it dries. Because of the curling technique she did in the salon (finger twirls), this wasn't apparent at the end of the appointment, only once I washed at home a few days later and let my natural curl re-appear. I've tried reaching out to her via FB messenger and email asking if we could re-connect so I can get it corrected, but no answer. I really was looking forward to this experience, but I ended up just getting another cut I have to live with until it grows out. I've been going to Suzy for 2 years, and every time I leave her salon I feel like my hair is new, I cannot recommend her enough! Prior to going to Suzy, I had veryyy little confidence in hair stylists due to nothing but bad experiences. I found Suzy and VMA Curls through a virtual Yelp event late last year, and now I've had my hair cut by her two times! The event focused on curly hair, which surprisingly has not really been a conversation I've been apart of despite having curly hair my whole life. It intrigued me so I joined in. During this event I discovered that there are actually salons that specialize in haircuts for people with curly hair, so despite living in Pasadena, I decided to drive out to San Bernardino to have my hair cut by Suzy. Aside from Suzy's amazing personality, what I loved most is that the cut centers around doing the least amount of work to your curly hair. I'm not one who spends a lot of time on my hair or makeup anymore, so this is definitely a plus for me. This cut made it possible for me to let my hair dry naturally and have it still look cute and curly every time. It included an olaplex treatment, which Suzy recommends leaving in for three days afterwards. Fast forward to two weeks ago: it was less than a week before my rescheduled 2020 graduation ceremony and I hadn't thought to book a haircut anywhere! I called all the places in Pasadena that specialize in curly cuts and ALL of them were completely booked. Then I thought about Suzy and the great cut I had last time, and although it was a drive, I was willing to make it if she was free!! Although she wasn't planning to work on that day, she made an exception because this was such a special occasion for me. Then I realized...*facepalm*...I forgot to schedule a makeup appointment as well! I noticed that VMA Curls also listed makeup services, so I asked Suzy if she'd be okay doing my makeup that day too. She told me she didn't do makeup herself, but that she'd ask another stylist, Abby, if she was free to come in. Again, it was a day Abby wasn't scheduled to work, but she made an exception!! First off, I am so thankful they did this for me, but it made it so much better that I loved the results of both services. I wanted as much of a natural look as possible for my ceremony, and I really pulled it off with these ladies. I can't wait for my next cut! Both ladies are also so generous as well: after my first cut, Suzy gave me a bunch of hair clips for free so I could get started on more natural-looking styling for the least amount of work. After my makeup service, Abby gave me extra powder, an eyebrow brush, lipstick, and lipgloss to touch up as necessary (I told her that I don't have a lot of makeup supplies). It's like it gets better every time. My second visit to Suzy, my hair so healthy especially after my second Olaplex treatment. I went full head color this time and I couldn't be more obsessed! (Peep the pics) She did not use any bleach each time she died my hair, which is a big plus for me considering all the years I've damaged my hair due to bleach. I took 6 freeways and crossed two counties to get here but it was definitely worth it! It's HARD to find a stylist that knows how to cut curly hair which is why VMA Curls was worth the trek. I found out about VMA Curls through a virtual Yelp Event and was impressed and had all kinds of questions and Suzy answered all of them. It's been a struggle to get back to my once long curly hair and I've looked at all the You Tubers for guidance, but Suzy had great advice that made sense for my hair type (not every curl is the same). I'm still figuring out my new curls and Suzy has helped with answering my questions both in person and via social media/text. Suzy is a certified in the Rezo haircut (look it up) and I was afraid I wouldn't get the same results because my hair is not thick at all, but she did it! I was open to cutting as much that needed to be cut in order to get better curls which meant going a little shorter but I was fine with this and my family was really impressed with the new cut. I'm usually in the chair for at least an hour and a half to two and a half hours, which includes blow drying and straightening my hair so the stylist can cut it, but with the Rezo cut Suzy cut my hair dry with no product in it, gave me a deep condition, hair dried my hair and styled it in about 45 minutes which is a record! If you have curly hair it's like hitting the jackpot when you find someone that knows how to cut and style your curls. I definitely recommend Suzy and will do the 6 freeway trek back to Loma Linda (never been here in my life other than to see Suzy) in a few months for a cut and color (there's a whole story on coloring curly hair, ask Suzy). read more
