I've been going to Vlasta's on Upper James for alterations and some dressmaking for over 30 years. She is fantastic. Not only a place for alterations but she is a woman who is an actual dressmaker/designer. I would not go anywhere else. It is a busy place - that's for sure - and that's because of the high quality offered there. Five-Star rating... Cheers, Louise read more

My heart is so full! I just received the beautiful blanket you made for my Christmas gift! It was a surprise and made from my son's t-shirts and a Raggedy Ann and Andy fabric my sister searched for that was an exact replica of my childhood blankey! I literally cried when I opened it! I can tell it was made with love and your skill is amazing. Thank you! read more

Not a great experience. We waited twenty minutes to be acknowledged, the place looked like barely controlled chaos and customers coming in for pick up were told to go look on the racks and find their own clothes. Vlasta brings her bulldog to work and it is apparently "obsessed with shoes", or so she told me after it had sunk its teeth first into my grandson's dress shoe and then into his running shoe. She was not the least bit apologetic. In the end my grandson's suit alterations were ok but next time I will go to a business where the staff practices good customer service and common courtesy. read more

I have been to this seamstress numerous times with many different challenges. They have never let me down and always offer a fair price for their awesome work . They have taken on challenges I thought for sure we're impossible. I totally recommend this business for all of your sewing needs. read more

Never, ever, ever take your wedding dress to Vlasta's! Avoid at all costs!!!! Unfortunately my beautiful wedding dress was a casualty of their horrific work but I hope in writing this review other dresses may be saved. The first time they attempted to take my dress in, it seemed as though no work was done whatsoever! It was still so large that it didn't hug my body at all and with a strapless dress you definitely don't want that... So another week I waited for them to fix their initial mismeasurment and what happens? They sew it so preposterously small it wouldn't even fasten at the top!! It was a whole hand's width too small! Imagine my horror as a soon to be bride =( They also refused to give me a refund and instead suggested I leave it in their incapable hands for a round three of butchering- but with my wedding only two weeks away I didn't want to risk it.. This time it's going to someone who knows how to do their job! What makes matters worse is they didn't apologize or offer any sympathy for being two weeks behind schedule and altering it incorrectly twice! They're only comment, "Your dress is too tight? Bring it in again" Thanks a lot for that comment oozing sympathy and confidence to get the job done right this time-Not! Oh and how much did they charge me to ruin my dress and waste hours of my time? 200 bucks! Avoid avoid avoid!!! Update: Took my dress to the dry-cleaners and guess what they discovered? Stains on the dress!!! Thanks a lot Vlasta's Dressmaking for keeping dresses hanging here there and everywhere without protective bags.. Draped over counters and old chairs... Ugh. =( read more

I highly recommend Vlasta's Dreas Making; Sewing and Alterations. Their work is of the finest quality, not to mention timely and most reasonable. I have used their services for years and I am still astounded each time, that what seems impossible is completed so beautifully. It is clear to me and many others, why they have been voted number one continuously. I won't go anywhere else. read more

Daughters prom dress needed to be shortened and taken in on the top. Took it to the Vlastas in Ancaster. Very very disappointed. Dress was not shortened and it was not taken in at all. Prom day the the hook above zipper ripped off the dress was sooo long she was stepping on it. Top was so big it looked awful. Terrible service. The only thing done was shortening the lining and opening up the back. Had to find someone else at the last minute to fix the hook and straps. Still didn't look right. Work that was suppose to be done and I paid for did not. A big day in my daughters life and she was left to wear a dress that was too big. I even gave her a 10.00 tip thinking she did the work.. my daughter went for the final fitting, I was not there so of course it didn't get noticed. We were scammed. read more

We have taken my husband's work coveralls in 2x now. Both times, we were charged much more than quoted when dropping the coveralls off. First time, we took in 8 pairs and we were quoted 8.00 per pair because we had so many. When we picked them up, we were charged 11.50 per pair. Last week, we picked up 2 pairs. When dropped off we were quoted 25.00 total. When we picked them up, we were charged 30.00 total plus the taxes. When I used my debit card, I looked on the screen to see how much she was charging us, and no pricing appeared on the screen! No idea how much I was paying until too late. Do NOT depend on quoted pricing, because she always charges more than quoted. No receipts or paperwork provided when dropping off, doesn't even take your name. We will never go there again because of the consistent overcharging. The work is well done, but not happy with the ripping off from quotes when dropping off. read more

Extreme let down. Voted best in hamilton... apparently. She is very disorganized, does not take names or numbers for any clothing items, gives wrong estimates for dates that the clothes will be ready. She also does not place clothes in any order, you have to find your own clothing item when its time for pick up. I had to scrummage through the sea of clothes to find my dress. Some hangers will have 4 dresses loosely dangling, i've seen dresses on the ground when I've come in 3 times. I had one dress altered and had to come in 3 times because of a misunderstanding since she had thought my dress was a graduation dress vs. a bridesmaid dress. Apparently since it was a bridesmaid dress she would have spent more time on it and not have ruined my 300$ dress. The owner also scolded me for buying such a large dress (size 0) and when I had explained a size 0 is the smallest size offered, said "Well thats not my problem." Bad experience to say the least. 1 Star for giving me free alterations although I probably wasted the same amount of gas on driving there so many times as it would have been to just pay the alteration price. read more

Very disorganized-better to take your stuff somewhere else. I had left a suit jacket, pants and a dress shirt, all for my wedding day, and when I went to pick them up all they could find was my dress shirt. They eventually located my jacket and neither had my name or drop off tag on them. I have to go in again for my pants. The work done on my clothes was passable at best. My dress shirt was supposed to end up form fitting, it didn't. My jacket was also previously too large and it still remains far from a talored look but isn't that what I paid for? read more

Vlasta & her whole team were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I have been to them several times, but my last experience outweighed them all. I designed my wedding dress & had Vlasta make it for me. She went above & beyond my every expectation. They took care of me like I was a part of their family. Every thing I wanted, they had done for me. She even went out of her way to go to Toronto to pick up more lace when I needed it. Everyone there treated me so well and helped to make my wedding day even more perfect than I could ever imagine. My dress turned out PERFECT- there was not one thing I would have changed. I had my whole family go there for their alterations as well, and they were all thrilled with their results. I love the whole team at Vlastas and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for anything as simple as a rip in their t-shirt to something as drastic as having their wedding dress made. Do not consider going anywhere else, make Vlastas your choice for dress making & alterations!!! -Dana Yousif read more

Vlasta is very quick and talented. The customer service is not ideal, but her prices are the best in Hamilton for the quality of the services provided. She has made multiple dresses for us from scratch. While she does not appear organized, her memory is perfect and things are ALWAYS ready on time. If you are willing to be a bit flexible and patient, you'll get a good price and a good result in the end. read more
