We ordered the schnitzel and the bratwurst, which came with cabbage and potato salad, and paired everything with a Berliner Kindl and a Pilsner. The schnitzel was fantastic--crispy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor--while the bratwurst was equally delicious. The cabbage and potato salad complemented the sausage beautifully, and I found myself piling both onto my schnitzel because they were that good! The true star of the evening, however, was the apple strudel. Freshly made, perfectly sweet, and easily the best apple strudel I had in Berlin. We had a reservation, which I'd recommend since the restaurant filled up quickly during dinner service. The service was fast, friendly, and the staff spoke excellent English, making the experience easy and welcoming for visitors. Since it was a warm evening, we chose the outdoor seating, which made for a lovely dinner, though the indoor dining room has the cozy charm of a traditional German pub. If you're looking for hearty, authentic German food done right, Dicke Wirtin is an absolute must-visit.

We had heard they started taking credit cards and confirmed that with the hostess when we arrived and were seated but when we went to pay the waiter said they only took cash (am bar) and gave us attitude before eventually getting the credit card reader.

Thankfully the place is small and we could flag them down if we needed something. Wines by the glass are limited but the one red was good. Honestly, however, feel like at least three or four options should be available. Food was a bit mixed. They do a nice table-side presentation for tartare and chateaubriand. We had a special foie gras ravoli that was loaded with black truffle, but was way too al dente and ultimately a disappointment. French Onion Soup was stellar. Tartare was good and accompanied by crispy onions. Steak was good, but chef really over-zealous with the salt. Portions were generous. Overall, it's good, but in our opinion, too pricey for return. Glad we tried it, but would look elsewhere in a future visit to Berlin.

Orders and meals: We ordered beetroot (rote Beete) - 10€. Fantastic dish! Nicely served and absolute tasty. Definitely recommend Main course we had the duck and the Dinkel bread (10€) with paprika. Skip the dinkelbread it was ok, but the duck was great (can't believe that was even vegan). The duck skin and the dish tasted great (15€) Price: For vegan, the location and quality of food I think it's reasonable. The portion sizes are ok but could be slightly bigger. Every entree is around 10-16€, you won't get full by just ordering an entree. Every appetizer ranges between 5-10€. So you can expect to pay 20-30€ with a drink for a evening dinner at this place. We had the pork shank and the game goulash. The goulash was fantastic. Yes cabbage was perfect. The potatoes wrestle pork shank were probably cooked in bacon fat and were sublime. Also the "Potato Snap" (like a home brewed vodka) is a fun and interesting shot before dinner! Service: Rather slow but the poor wait staff are completely overworked. Ambiance: Quaint, almost like a dining room in an old home. Value: For the quality, value is solid. Dinner and beer for 2 with 5% tip for just under 100 Euros.
