"Artic Island Char" Fried Filet of Char with Chorizo Beans,Grapefruit, Papaya & Celery Root-Crème

Eeeh, for the amount we spent here and number of total dishes we tried to say that we left disappointed it's a bit of understatement. Starters - beef tartar - appetizer tapas (pork belly, octopus, salmon, salad) - ramen - pulpo salad Main - meat for two - spare ribs - Arctic char Everything was so boring and super salty! Ramen and spare ribs are especially over salted. Pulpo salad was the best out of all. All dishes had pomegranate in it. Pomagrante seeds or sauce. So imagine everything has the same acidic bite to it.

Expensive. Small portions. Service is good. Food is good but not deserve the high price. Especially the vegan dish .

Heirloom tomato salad with baby squid. Yummy!

I'm in Berlin to eat interesting food. And I found some at the Pantry in Mitte. A cute little place with some very tasty food lurks behind the bamboo planters in front. A quick glance at the menu out front hinted at some creativity and interesting flavors. So we came in out of the rain to give it a try. Drinks and wine were interesting, but a bit curious why the wines by the glass are not available as a bottle. But the prices on the by the glass were much more reasonable than the bottle, which is usually not how it works in the states. But some good wine helped up start off our choices. We started off with the Heirloom - Tomato salad with mini calamari, green papaya, snow peas, tamarind, and roasted peanuts. The mini/baby calamari looked more like octopus but they were yummy and delightful and added a wonderful note to the tomatoes and papaya. The dressing was light and really the right touch of acid to bring out the flavors of the yummy tomatoes, which there were four varieties. We followed this up with the salmon fillet with apple salad and creamy potato. The salmon was cooked perfectly, just the right seasoning, and melt in your mouth tenderness. The apple salad was tasty and not too sweet and played off the fish very well, I belive it also had some flash fried greens, possibly spinach which was very tasty and added another texture note. The salmon really didn't need the creamy potato but they were so good I wanted a whole bowl of them. Our other dish was the rib eye with sweet potatoes and Bearnaise. This was cooked to a perfect medium rare to the rare side, seasoned like it was from heaven. The combination of the wilted spinach, steak and the Bearnaise sauce was a lovely richness that counter balanced the bit of salt on the steak. The sweat potatoes were more of the yellow variety, and were so tender as to almost melt in your mouth. they also had a lovely like smokiness to them. The malbec by the glass went very nicely with the steak. We were too full to even consider dessert, so possibly another time to try out the choices there. Service was attentive, pleasant and friendly. Prices for the food were very reasonable, especially for the quality and the creativity in the flavors, which I have not done justice to here. My only complaint was the wine by the bottle seemed very high compared to other things in the area, but luckily there were interesting things by the glass that went very well with what we were having. I plan to go back before I leave town.

My new favorite restaurant in Mitte. Great food. Service almost a little too attentive, but that's a good surprise in Berlin!

On my recent trip to Germany, Hugos in Berlin was highly recommended to me by a close friend. My experience was phenomenal, from the service and expertise on the food and wine pairings to the views of the city. The restaurant is located at the top of the InterContinental Berlin hotel, serving French and Mediterranean fare in a coursed style experience. You can opt for 4, 6 or 8 courses, and add wine pairings to each of the courses. If you'd prefer, they can prepare a larger portion of some of the courses for just one main entree. We opted for the 8 course with wine pairing. The whole experience took around 3 hours, but we were certainly taking our time and enjoying every bite! With 8 courses I was definitely full, but keep in mind this is much more about art and flavor profiles than it is large portions. If you have any questions they are more than happy to help answer them, and the sommelier explains the wine pairings in as much detail as you prefer. As you can imagine, the menu changes frequently, but I will share what I had in June of 2019. I'd HIGHLY recommend Hugo's for a unique experience you won't forget!

How ingredients like parsnip, peas, pickled gherkin and horseradish, though familiar, transformed the dishes in unexpected ways. While components as rapeseed oil, linseed and buckhorn, though less familiar, infused the mains in interesting yet recognizable flavors. One dish, for me, that perfectly highlighted the familiar with the delightfully unfamiliar was the mieral pigeon. So beautifully done.

The food was more than reasonably priced for the large portions. I give this place a 5 star rating because it truly deserves it. Finding good authentic German food in Berlin is not very difficult, but if you do not enjoy pork, or also prefer a vegetarian option every once in a while, it becomes quite a challenge. This place has both: great vegetarian dishes and plenty of meat options without pork. The best thing of all-I can still call this food 'traditional' German food. The service was friendly, on point and professional (hard to find in Berlin), the food was interesting, fresh, delicious and it made me want to come back to explore more of the menu.

Their website advertises a two-course lunch for 6.90 EUR, including a light starter (like a soup) and a hearty main. On my visit the starter was (best described as) an Italian gazpacho, thick and chunky and very flavorful. Great with the complimentary bread. For my main, I had a spaghetti with fresh garden vegetables. Everything was delicious. The whole place has a great ambiance and the service is very friendly. The rotating menu also has a variety of salads and small plates, which split 50/50 of being more or less expensive than the two-course lunch. A meal for one should fall somewhere between 10-18 EUR.
