Vivant has extremely bad customer service and technical support. They outsourced their customer service so on top of them not effectively addressing your issue there will be a language barrier assuming you only speak english. The company does not seem to communicate well internally either. Proceed with caution. My wife and I purchased a home 9 months ago that already had solar panels that were purchased by the previous owner. For some reason Vivant still has the panels in the previous owners name and they refuse to change it without the previous owners authurization. read more

I wish I could give this company a 0 star rating. In response to this company's request I have sent emails and called the customer service - to date I have no response. Yet, they continue to charge me an "estimated production" rate that will be resolved "one - two billing cycles after the panels are completely reinstalled". I have asked that the auto payment be discontinued until the panels are reinstalled because the production rate is 0 due to their inability or unwillingness to follow through with the contracted agreement of reinstalling in a timely manner. UPDATE 12/3/30: Called the installation/removal department to see when the technician was coming out. Spoke with Nate (if that's really his name) and had him promise he'd call me back when he spoke to the technician. He didn't. I have a feeling I've been shoved to the "reschedule the appointment" pile on someone's desk. Next step will be to remove them myself, throw them in a UHaul and haul them to their warehouse. UPDATE 12/2/2020 7p.m. They never showed. I spoke to the installation/removal department (twice). Both times the customer service rep. promised they'd speak to my technician and call me back. Neither called me back. I'm stuck with these damn panels for life, I guess. UPDATE 12/2/2020 12:15p.m.: After jumping through hoops last month, I was finally able to get an appointment for uninstall today, after paying my contracted $500. The appointment window is from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. It is 12:15...they aren't here. I'm not surprised. Called customer service in South America an hour ago, they said they were 30 minutes away. Tick tock...Again, no local customer service number to call. Please think twice before dealing with this company. A representative will come out and sell you solar, but after that, you are on your own. Customer service will take you to South America and if you cause a stink, you may be sent to Utah. I was made promises by my representative 5 years ago that the company could not fulfill, and I am now stuck in a 20-year contract with no representation in the United States. I need a new roof, and I can't get in touch with the company to take off the panels, even though their service trucks are parked just 30 minutes away. Scheduling removal and storage is beyond difficult, and they make you PAY upfront for removal before even giving you a date. Horrendous customer service. read more

DO NOT USE ViVint Solar. I live in Columbia MD and the panels have been installed for over six months and have not worked. Instead of getting a reduced bill I have been getting BILLED from ViVint Solar. They finally came out months after my complaints and discovered they had failed to turn the system on...............and then months later that are still sending me bills instead of reducing my bills. I asked them to come get the panels off my roof and they said that the contract is for 20 years or you can pay 30K to get out of the "free" contract. Unfortunately NO stars is not an option. ANyone considering this company,do not choose them. THey are rogues!!!!!!! They will be nice and pretend to be nice while you are signing the contract andbefore the install. It will be a completely different story after. They will MANDATE directly debiting your account without you having any idea how much they will deduct. IFyou do not agree, they will NOT GIVE YOU access to your bills and yet send threatening debt collections to you each time. FOr almost a year, they have blocked online access and refused to send any bills. Instead they willclaim they cannot mail any bills and they also cannot email any bills. you will only have ONLINE access if you allow them to automatically deducting any amount from your account each month. Warning do not go with this solar company. When calling to contact customer service all you get is music and by the time a customer service rep answers it has been 3 - 4 hours later. One solar panel was installed by their installers too close to a skylight and now due to a small leak have to replace the skylight. Called to get the solar panel removed so a contractor can replace the skylight due to the small leak and Vivint will not remove the solar panel unless a full payment is made not only that if your on a third party loan you can not make monthly payments. I am sorry I went solar with this company would like to have all the panels removed and cancel my contract but unfortunately I'm probably stuck. So I advise others to stay away from this company if you see the sales people waking around your neighborhood do not let them talk you into getting solar. read more

We are all stewards of the planet and what we do today affects our children's future. Today we have the ability to use solar power to power our homes rather than dirty fossil fuels. now is the time when we can all make a difference. Granted not every home can qualify to get solar. A lot of homes don't get enough sun. But for the homes that are good for solar, we have a chance to help clean up the environment. The only problem is it takes a long time to get qualified and installed. I was explained this up front so I was prepared. I can understand that is not Vivint's fault. They have to work with a lot of government red tape. So be patient and understanding when they tell you it could take 6 months. But once the day of installation comes, the systems are installed in 1 day. Vivint is like a well oiled solar machine. Help the environment, save money on my bills, be a good example for my children about how I care about the world. Its a no brainer. Why spend extra more money to buy dirty power? read more

horrible company. We have had nothing but problems with vivint solar. They have had to replace pretty much every component except the panels at least once. The system would go down for weeks at a time. On average it takes 3-4 weeks to get someone out to fix it. Our panels were even installed wrong which has caused permanent water damage. contractors have been out 3-4 times to fix the leaks including a new roof and yup, still leaks. I was hesitant about going solar and with our lower-than-normal usage most of the year, it didn't seem like it was necessary. One day, a Vivint rep came to my house and although I have been turning all salespeople away, I decided to hear what Lexi had to say and she explained the program thoroughly and patiently. I had many questions afterwards, after doing my research, and making sure I was getting what I was expecting. As of this writing, my panels are being installed and I can't wait to see what my savings will be. This review is geared towards the sales and installation process. On the morning of Friday 9 January 2014 a Vivint technician came to my 3 story town-home in Maryland at 11AM to conduct an assessment of the roof for solar panel installation. When the technician was in the attic he stepped on one of the sprinkler system pipelines. The pipeline in the attic broke and flooded all three levels of my town-home. I sprinted down to the first floor to shut the water cutoff valve to prevent additional water from flooding my residence. Water got between the walls (from the attic), on the hardwood floor, and through the ceiling on all three floors. The circuit board on our home furnace was also damaged by water coming from the ceiling above.The technician was extremely apologetic and assisted me in using towels to soak up the water. Vivint sent a local furnace repair and pipe repair company to assist that same day (Friday)I was told by the damage resolution center that I would receive a call back that same night about water mitigation. I called Vivint's damage resolution multiple times that night after not receiving an update for 3 hours. When I finally got a hold of someone, I was told the person I was dealing with had left the office for the night and that Vivint would work on resolving my issue on Saturday. Saturday morning I called damage resolution multiple times and was not able to reach anyone.I called multiple Vivint phone numbers and told whoever would listen about the situation, I was told emails were sent to the damage resolution department. Eventually I received a call back in the afternoon from damage resolution who told me it was too late for water mitigation to come to my residence and that they would come Sunday.On Sunday Servpro (water mitigation) arrived at 0930 for an inspection of my residence. After the inspection they told me they had to receive authorization from Vivint to install drying equipment. At 1445 Servpro called and said they could not get a hold of anyone at Vivint to authorize the drying equipment install. It has been 53 hrs since Vivint caused flooding on all three floors of my residence, I have no timeline for resolution. My floors/ceilings are still wet and I don't know when I will be made whole again. Trying to get a hold of anyone from Vivint is almost impossible and they don't seem to care about the situation they caused even though they told me im a "top priority" and that "they're sorry". DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH VIVINT, this has been a nightmare. read more

I had asked Vivint Solar to have a look at my house, and they agreed to do a site survey. Sadly, the savings don't add up to enough to make me want to take the plunge into a 20 year contract. The salesman was very professional and not pushy. The tech who did the site survey was friendly and polite. The proposal package that was created and sent by their engineers was thorough and detailed enough that I was able to make up my mind quickly. After reading many online reviews by unsatisfied customers, many seem to be people who did not fully understand the contract they had signed. Go in with your eyes open, do you your own research. If the savings had been enough for my wife and I to decide to go with a solar PPA, we'd have no trouble signing with Vivint. read more

We were told it would be no more than 90 days from the date of install until we could turn on the panels. But because of inspection/ paperwork and permit issues it was over 4 months. We were also told that because the panels were low profile and close roof we would not have pigeon issues. Well, we do. And when we called to inquire about it, they said it would cost us over $300 to install pigeon guards. We ended up settling for about $125. They took our payment. But almost month they are still not installed...... They said "we will contact you for installation," but have not heard back. They also said we would be responsible for cleaning up any pigeon crap and/or nest from the roof and under the panels. Can not recommend this company. read more

Love saving money at no cost! I don't pay for installation either. My BGE electric bill was $12.- last month! The only thing is that it took 2 months to get the panels installed. Wish it was sooner but waiting on permit approval apparently takes a while. I have an 8 kWh system in the front of my house and it looks great. read more

bought a home with vivint panels in 2017. in april of '08 I needed to have a few temporarily removed for roof work. contacted them in early April. the experience has been horrible. after two missed appointments (no calls, just didn't show), finally got someone in late july to remove. now it's sept 6 and after many many calls, can't get them back to reinstall. HORRIBLE service - I'd not recommend them to my enemies. read more

The process took way too long and then they never contacted my electric supplier which I had to do then change back to BG and E to get my program started. My fault for not reading the fine print because the entire sales pitch was based on FREE, FREE, FREE. Now I get a bill each month so combined with my BG and E bill I have saved nothing. The installation was competently done yes it took a while to be turned on but it was worth the wait. My husband and I signed up for solar panels back in Sept. 2015 with Vivint. We went thru the roof inspection, the credit check, everything. Our rep brought a plan to our home for the panels back in Nov. 2015. He told us we were still waiting on the permit from the county and BGE. He told us it could take a few months. That wasn't a problem. I found out today (02/25/16) that our rep was no longer with the company. When I asked who took over his houses, the "supervisor" told me no one did and Vivint cancelled our panels. When I asked why no one reached out to us, the "supervisor" told me that "we must of slipped thru the cracks". This company is HORRIBLE. Who does business this way?? Not even willing to give me an apology for something that was there fault. If your thinking about Solar Panels I would definitely pick another company!!! read more

I want to start off by stating the only reason that they get 1 stars is because the sales process was smooth. The installation process has not been. The day of our scheduled installation I received a call stating they were put on a call to fix something and would be there shortly (this was mid morning). Of course, we had taken off the day to ensure someone was here so they could do the electrical. No-one showed up until after 3pm and they proceeded to tell me that after drilling one hole, they couldn''t do anymore because it was "too late." The operations manager actually told me his guys were walking off the job even though he was telling them to stay. We arranged for them to come put the panels on the following day and electric Saturday. The following day arrived and no-one ever came. Rather then the operations manager calling me back, he had the lead technician do it. Thus to say, we still do not have solar. read more

I am a contractor working with Homeowner that has panels on the roof from this company. The homeowner has serious leaks And needs the panels off as soon as possible. We told vivint of the issue three months ago and they said they would be out the next week to take the panels off. When the Time came for them to take the panels off they didn't show up or even had the decency to call the homeowner to let them know they weren't coming out. Long story short now this has happened on three separate occasions where they set a date and don't come out. Also they have no excuses and you can tell that they don't care. Unfortunately it has gotten to this point but now we have to get our lawyer involved. I am totally shocked at how unprofessional this solar company is I have never had such an issue getting solar panels off with any other company. They come out the day they say they're going to come out. The other solar companies also don't ask for the removal for fee upfront before doing the work. Vivint said we needed to pay over $2000 before they would come out to remove the panels. So we paid it and of course they got their money so they're in no rush to get the panels off. To make an extremely long and aggrevating story somewhat short; Vivint installed solar panels on my home and proceeded to fail the the county building and electrical inspections FOUR times before finally passing on the fifth try. It was very evident during the failed inspections that the company has no idea what they are doing. Only once did I see an electrician that had been to my house previously, every other time it was a new person that had no idea what they were doing. I know this because they kept asking ME what they needed to do! I'm not an electrician nor am I a county inspector so I obviously had no idea why it kept failing. One time the electrician (again the one they sent only that day for the inspections, I had never seen him before nor did he come back) almost got into a fight with the county inspector because he didn't like failing the inspection and "being talked down too" all while still in MY house! The building inspection did not go any better as the solar panel brackets did not line up with what the county requirements dictated, and they needed new pictures of the correct bracket spacing to pass. The first two inspections failed as a Vivint representative tried using the exact same pictures that failed the first time and I had to explain to the Vivint customer service consultant multiple times that those pictures were not going to pass. After that the Vivint technicians did not even show up until well after the county inspector had already come by, failed it again, and left. I was told it finally "passed" the 5th time but all I have to go by is Vivint's word as I was not present when the inspector allegedly passed it. I did have to be there for every electrical inspection as they needed access to my house and as I make ~$300 a day, I lost a total of $1200 for taking off for 4 days for each of the failed inspections. Of course Vivint doesn't care and has not offered me one cent in remediation, and has instead simply ignored my email sent over one week ago. Avoid Vivint at all costs! read more

When we initially met with the salesman we were told that the company monitors the equipment to make sure that it is working correctly. This is not the case. For the past 4 months it has not worked and no one has notified us. Forget about trying to talk on the phone with these people. I was surprised to see more than 30 holes drilled through my roof. These holes are left in my shingles and go through to my attic. A thin metal plate was placed between the shingle on top and the one below. This is a temporary patch at best. The refuse to turn this damage in to their insurance so the roof can be replaced. Large area of foot traffic also has worn the shingles down to the fiberglass mat.Now the shingles look as if they are completely worn out. read more

I just got free solar panels on my roof from Vivint Solar, and I am so excited about it, that it made me want to write about it! Vivint Solar is out there really making a difference for our environment. I spoke to a rep that I met while doing yard work in my front yard. First I was leery (as anyone is these days of a stranger in front of their house), but the more I spoke to him, the more I liked him. I had my home assessed for solar- which cost me nothing- and after six months of getting the design and permits done, I am now saving money every month on my power bill, and helping the environment. Where do I beginning with this company vivint...These guys are so fast to install the solar panel on your house but when there is something wrong with the roof it will take them months to come out and to have it removed. I've spoke with customer service for about getting my solar panels removed...you must pay in full before you can schedule an appointment to have the panels taken off...sure no problem. Paid the bill. We schedule a date to have the guys come out and remove the panels...they give me a courtesy call the day before saying they are coming out from 11AM-2PM....The day of the appointment. No show...No call....the entire day I've waited for them to come out nothing. So I give them a call asking where are the guys removing the panels...they told me they were told by the their boss to go to someone else's house to do their panels. Unbelievable, I don't understand why you must pay ahead out of time for something they put you in the schedule for and completely skip you without notice...I would have mind it so much but terrible company to deal with. read more

The salesperson was the only thing good about this. I signed the contract in December of 2014 and as of today, July 18, 2015 I am still not hooked up. It has been more thing after another with this company. The electricians were supposed to come to hook up the panel on June 9, 2015. I had someone over the age of 18 here so that they could have access to the house. That morning I was informed that the final electrically install would not be that day. Someone did come out 4 hours late to hook up the electric, however didn't finish the job, he said he would be back the following week. That was about a month ago. I was told earlier in the week that someone would be here today July 18 between 8-12. At 11:30 I received yet another phone call telling me that they were behind and that they would need more time. I called the salesman, now someone is supposed to be here by 2 wait its 2:58 pm. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB of Maryland and will also go to arbitration if needed to get the panels off of my roof. I would rather buy them outright from another company then deal with this company any longer. read more
