Tl;dr: Vivian did not get our baby to sleep through the night consistently and then proceeded to imply that I lied to her, blamed me for being "anxious" and critiqued our parenting. In depth review: I was referred to Vivian 6 years ago. When I had my 3rd child, I was rocking him to sleep for 45 min to get him to nap for 30 min. My baby was 4 months when I reached out to Vivian. During our first meeting, she was at the house at 7am. My impression was that she was somewhat disorganized, but I trusted her expertise. The first week we saw improvements in our baby's sleep. He learned to sleep on his own without contact for naps, but did not sleep through the night. He would wake up and cry and then go back to sleep. We followed her advice to go in if it's 45 min of hardcore crying or 50 min of wave. However, I found that when we did that, the next day Vivian would be very agitated and said "Tina, don't go in. Should I just tell you not to go in period?". This was very condescending and contradictory to her advice. When we follow it, she questions me whether or not I am sure. In addition, she kept iterating t All the while, Vivian would pepper in unsolicited parenting advice. "Don't talk to your baby. Don't pick up your baby." She was aware enough to know that I felt uncomfortable with her comments that she called back to apologize. She said "I don't want to make you feel bad, but I just see that some parents have it too hard if they give too much attention to their baby." I gave her a pass, but more flags came up. I told her that my older kids cry sometimes and perhaps that affects my baby's bedtime. Her response was "Should I go down there and discipline everyone?". It truly was unpleasant to constantly converse with someone so judgmental. I did not hire her for parenting advice. The straw that broke the camel's back is after 3 weeks of trying, Vivian started blaming me for the sleep plan not working. She said "I don't know if you're really not going in at night. Sometimes you say the baby drinks 2 oz and other times 4 oz.. I don't really know what you're doing, but there's something usually wrong with the parents." Babies are not robots and they drink different amounts on different days. It is beyond insulting to imply that I was lying to her about our actions. I called her and told her that I did not appreciate her questioning and implications. It would be one thing if she owned her part and said "In my years, I have not come across a baby who took this long and I'm not sure why". However, she chose to blame her clients. It's so unprofessional. For 3 weeks, I endured anticipating judgmental comments, mistrust, and blame. She apologized for her words and said she'll be more careful with what she says, but it was really deteriorating my mental health especially with a baby who still does not sleep at night. I told her I needed a break. A week later, I cooled off and was done. I don't need to put up with her anymore. My husband tried to talk to her, but was stonewalled and given critiques of our parenting and house cleanliness. She said I didn't take notes (not true, I took them on my phone in front of her as we talked) and she said that our house was messy (we have 3 children under 6 years old - not sure she's ever worked with parents with 3 kids). At the end of the day, you'll get some results, but it comes at a high cost to your mental health. read more

Update March 25th, 2025: I contacted Vivian days after the birth of my 10th child. I wanted to be sure and start off on the right track immediately. With a large family it is especially crucial to have a routine in place for the benefit of not only the baby, but the entire family. Vivian gave me a few initial pointers to start off our baby on the right foot, but recommended that I call back when I was stronger and able to follow through with her suggestions. After having my 3rd baby I was hoping she would be my "good sleeper". For the first few months of life she slept decently. We co slept and she was exclusively breastfed. But after she hit her 4 month sleep regression she was using me as a human pacifier every 30 minutes throughout the night, and sometimes even having a hard time falling back asleep! Updating my review after Vivian recently helped us out with our second baby. Even though we already knew the method from our first kid, we called Vivian again because we wanted her knowledge/expertise just in case. After all, each kid is different, and we weren't sure if the second was going to be as easy to sleep train as the first. Turns out, it was just as easy with our second baby. I found Vivan on yelp. I was curious because Vivan did not have any formal training or credentials. But, there were so many positive reviews and she was local. I ignored the negative ones. It turned out that all of the negative ones were right on target with my experience. I want to share my experience because... 1) It is not cheap - she charged us $960 2) By the time you are looking for a sleep trainer - you are exhausted and really need help. Therefore critical you choose the right person. It is important for a trainer to be someone who coaches you and guides you along the way. A positive support to walk you through all the nuances and can answer questions that come up. Patient and compassionate. Most importantly, available! If you are taking on a new client - be available to answer questions, especially in the first 24 hours. Vivian came to our house last Friday morning. She brought a one-page laminated sheet that she referenced. No handouts or anything to share. Expect to take your own notes. We found her to be very disorganized as she shared her method - jumping around from topic to topic. But, did our best (all 3 of us) to piece together everything she was saying. Her method is a form of CIO. She explains 3 types of crying: whining, the wave, and "hardcore nasty" crying. She told me because my baby was "good" and "nice" to let her hardcore/nasty cry for 30 min and then take her outside to look at the flowers to break - then back in the crib. If she does not respond, increase that time each day. If the baby is crying when waking up from a nap - leave in the crib another 15 more. To keep her awake for 2 hours between naps. Feed every 3 hours. There was not much more to it. Vivan was available from 8 am-6 pm. I found her very hard to get a hold of to ask questions as things came up during those hours. When we finally did, she was not able to explain her method well. We also found her to be patronizing, dismissive, and rude. Example: Question to Vivian: Can we talk through a sample schedule if I am to feed every 3 hours and the baby wakes up at 7 am but naps in 2 hours.... Response to me was that I was overthinking things and I need to relax and if I relaxed the baby would sleep. I told her I was worried my baby was not doing well and she told me to stop being dramatic. If I am paying $960 for a coach, I would imagine they would be available especially over the first 24 hours when things are rough... When I let her know that I was finding support challenging, she said none of her mom's complain. She quickly sent $675 back and "best wishes" and that was the end of that. In less than 24 hours she bailed. No idea how she calculated that amount for a refund. I am shocked there are positive reviews and wonder if she must pay for some of them. But that is my own hypothesis. My friend who went through an organized sleep training jumped in and talked me through it - thank god! And with my friends' help - my baby is now sleeping through the night. I suggested she created a website, do this for her friends a few times around to get some positive yelp reviews, and say she is passionate about babies and viola - she is a sleep trainer. If looking for a sleep trainer 1. Make sure they have a manual they can give YOU to follow. 2. Find someone who has availability at night (the hardest) and during the day. 3. Vivian changed my family's life. I am a first time mom & know that sleep post partum is key to a healthy recovery. I was lucky enough to be able to hire a wonderful night nurse a few nights a week to help us through this transition. This review is a long time coming, as Vivian helped me years ago with my now 8 yr old, and has again been HUGELY indispensable helping me with my now 9 week old baby boy! With my older daughter, I called her, desperate, when she was about 4 months old (I'd held out thinking that there was nothing to "do" about not sleeping until babies were 6 months old). I am so so glad I called--she changed our lives and restored sanity! In 3 nights my daughter slept 7pm-7am, naps were no longer an issue (no tears) and she had zero sleep regressions. She is still a beautiful, happy, long, sleeper and a well rested child. I am SO SO grateful that I found Vivian. When I found out I was pregnant in March, I was thrilled but was already dreading the sleep deprivation that comes with newborn life. I reached out to Vivian to see how early she works with parents and babies so that the right habits can be set from the start. She said to call her on day 1--which I did! We came up with a good plan, baby was napping and sleeping in his crib from day 3 on, and at 8 weeks started sleeping 7pm-6am with only very gentle "nudging" on my part. This is where Vivian really gets 5 starts, and why I am so grateful. Sure, as parents we all want (and need!) sleep. But, what really matters to us are our babies and children. The difference in my children when they have a good routine and are rested, is night and day. For example, with this baby I had been keeping him up too long in between naps. As soon as Vivian corrected me on this, we literally had almost no fussing during the day, and when she adjusted his bedtime to 7 rather than 8 or 9, bam the "witching hour" fussies were over! When he wakes up in the morning and from naps he's happy, smiling and then ready to nap again in an hour with no or very little tears. My husband and I talk all the time about how this is really a gift to the children even more than it is to us and the rest of the household. The gift of sleep for a lifetime! Vivian loves babies. If anything, I would call this "parent training" rather than "sleep training"! One thing that is important: her advice and her programs are not similar to what you read all over the internet about baby "sleep". There will be some crying--and what I've learned is that that's OK. Frankly, I'd rather have 5-10 minutes of tears for a few days and then a happy rested child forever after that than weeks/months/years of tears and a sleep deprived child and parents. Her's is not a "let the baby cry it out all night" sort of thing--it's thoughtful, tailored to each child and situation and your family, but most importantly it's CONSISTENT for the baby in the least amount of time possible. Truly, the results and the happy, happy children speak for themselves. If you are on the fence (and have gotten to the end of my gushing review!) all I can say is: go for it. We had a 3 1/2 month old at the time and my husband got three unsolicited referrals to call Vivian for sleep training when he mentioned to clients and other various people that he had just had a baby. We called her right when our pediatrician gave us the "okay" to sleep train at 4 months - by the way our pediatrician also mentioned that she used Vivian to train both her babies while giving the okay. Anyway, we called Vivian and she picked up right away and started getting to know us over the phone. She usually does house calls to meet your family, the baby and see your house/nursery but can't right now due to the pandemic. She asked lots of questions about our baby's daytime and nap habits, eating habits, sleeping patterns, what we were using for swaddles/sleep sacks, etc and helped us come up with a plan. She estimated that it would take about 2-3 nights for our baby based on what she knew of us and exactly TWO nights later we had a baby sleeping 12 hours a night without crying. Now, you have to be ready for the training, the two nights of crying was hard at times but not awful and it is so worth it. Our baby is 9 months old now, we haven't had to go into her room once over the last 5 months because she goes down happily at 6:30pm and we see her at 7am the next morning with a smile on her face - every morning. Our baby girl Claire seems so happy and rested and we are so thankful to Vivian for her guidance. Through the training process and for a couple weeks following, things would come up and we would get in touch with Vivian to ask questions, she was always available and happy to hear from us or would call me to check in. Vivian has the experience, the attitude, the knowledge and the candor to be the best sleep trainer. We really adore her and still do occasional calls to get advice about other issues (sleeping while traveling, sleep sacks, etc etc) and are planning to work on potty training with Vivian when that time comes. Just wow - Vivian has completely saved my sanity as a Mom, and we couldn't be more grateful for her help! Vivian was recommended to us by our pediatrician which was the initial vote of confidence that led me to call her. We hired her to do remote sleep consulting during the COVID-19 Shelter in Place. Initially we were looking for help with our 2 year old who was waking in the middle of the night, but after reading her reviews and completing our initial call, I realized that she was going to be hugely helpful in getting our 3.5 month old to sleep better. This ended up being the game changer for us! I was rocking & bouncing him to sleep so much that my back was killing me, he wasn't sleeping for long stretches, and he would thrash in his swaddle like he wanted out. I hadn't really realized how tough our routine was becoming now that he was waking from his newborn fog. We were all ready for a change. That being said, I was NOT willing to just leave my baby to cry all night, so once I learned about Vivian's gentle, time-based technique I knew it was something we could handle, that my baby would not feel abandoned, and that I wouldn't need to drown myself in a bottle of red wine while listening to my baby scream and scream. This felt right. Not only did Vivian fix our 2 year olds sleep issue in just 1 night, but our 3.5 month old is now taking three 1.5 hour naps a day and sleeping a full 12 hours at night! It's unbelievable! The best part is he is a DIFFERENT BABY! The very small amount of crying we had to endure is absolutely worth it once you physically see the change in your baby. He goes down without a tear, wakes up happy, and is chill and smiley the whole time he is awake. He is an absolute dream baby now, and I'm so glad we taught him the skills he needed in order for him to truly get the restful sleep he wasn't getting before! It really makes you wish you did something sooner. My tip: Be honest with yourself and COMMIT to following Vivian's plan for you. She will tweak it and offer advice if things are off (our baby took a few tweaks and about 5 full days to see consistency, he wasn't a perfect example). At the end of the day I knew that if we weren't consistent and strong, it would lead to a frustrated and confused baby. We had a mixed experience with Vivian. On the plus side, she truly is warm and really knows babies. She swept in and felt like our fairy godmother. Our baby would not nap independently until we followed her method and now he goes down easily and his naps are slowly lengthening bit by bit. On the challenging front- the night method didn't work for us or our baby. He would sleep one really great night, followed by one agonizing night with 2 hours of crying (as instructed). I believe that Vivian has seen so much success with her method that it's hard for her to believe that our baby truly cried for 2 hours. When replaying the details of what happened we were met with skepticism - we must be doing something wrong. We followed her instruction to the letter. I ended up confused because some of her instructions contradicted what she'd say in the past. At the end the phone calls felt combative and tiresome. It was disappointing to feel like I had to defend myself on our calls, especially after some of the worst sleep we've had. I think Vivian's methods will work for most babies. It's simple (to start) and makes great sense. She'll work with you to make tweaks along the way and is very good at checking in. If you've already tried some form of CIO sleep training and it doesn't stick for your baby, I can't say with confidence that this method will work for you. It's definitely worth a shot if you have a very thick skin for a lot of tears, and a lot of tough love from your sleep consultant. Going into this, I thought I did. But after a full week, I felt more drained and lost about night sleep than when I started. I had no incentive to lie to Vivian, I desperately wanted the help. We are so thankful for Vivian! We moved across the country with our 2 month old and all the change really impacted his sleep habits. We couldn't put him down - he refused to sleep in a crib or bassinet, only on someone's chest. After a few desperate nights, we found Vivian. Vivian was referred to us by a friend after our 6-month-old started waking up on the hour, every hour, during the night. I had tried hacking our own sleep support by following sleep consultants on Instagram and reading blogs. None of this was ever specific enough for our particular situation, and the tips I did try, had no effect. Vivan came in with direct and measurable suggestions based on our specific family's situation. As with any sleep coach, her guidance is only effective if you're willing to put in the work, which after months of sleepless nights, we were. Her service is an investment and not one we took lightly. The fact is, you'll be hard-pressed to find someone with more experience, and a history of success, than Vivian. Additionally, we found that other sleep coaching services marketed their leader in name only. Actual coaching was generally outsourced to other "certified" coaches. This isn't the case with Vivian. You get her full and undivided attention without the risk of being delegated to a less experienced employee. Vivian and her "sleep system" are incredible! We first worked with Vivian two years ago when our daughter was just 4 months old and within 3 nights, we were all sleeping through the night. Not only did Vivian coach us through initial transition and training to help our daughter make it through the night without feeding, but she has continued to advise us and troubleshoot problems through to today. We had such a great experience with our daughter that we decided to start sleep training early with our baby boy at 8 weeks! Sure enough, following Vivian's system yielded results in just a week or so of training. Vivian has been so wonderful to work with! We were referred to her by a friend and we are forever grateful. Our daughter was 3 months when we started with Vivian. She was very dependent on the pacifier for sleep and it was becoming a problem anytime she woke up during a nap or nighttime. Vivian came over to our house, talked us through her rules, left plenty of time for us to ask all the questions we wanted, and told us we could call her as much as we needed. We called her a lot that first week and every time Vivian was quick to respond and tell us exactly what to do. She also called every day to check-in as well. The best part of Vivian's plan is everything just makes sense when you think about it. Babies need to learn to sleep unassisted and she coaches you through how to get there. It took our daughter about 2 weeks to get a full 12+ hours of uninterrupted night sleep (she would wake up and talk to herself at 4am for awhile) and another week for naps to extend to 2-2.5 hours each. The best part is that she can put herself to sleep in 5-10 mins in a bright room (no blackout shades needed!) and can easily go back to sleep if she wakes up during a sleep cycle transition during a nap.
