The place is quite small. When I walked in at 4pm on Saturday, they were packed with 3 reserved tables by the entrance. I waited a bit to get seated since all the waiters were busy to notice. But once I was seated, I found that the service was good and fast, servers were friendly and attentive. Food also came out very quickly. In spite of being tucked away, this place is very popular. The whole time I was dining there, their phone didn't really stop ringing either from people ordering takeout. The complimentary bread was enjoyable with their delicious aji dipping sauce. I got their Bistec a lo Pobre. I knew that the portion was going to be big but when it came to the table I was still very surprised to see how much food was on the plate. It could easily feed 2-3 people. Came with 2 pepper steak, 2 fried eggs, fries, sweet plantains, salad, and I requested a subtitute of their yellow rice instead of white rice. I have never tried Peruvian food before so I have nothing to compare it to but I did find the food are just okay -- but I do like how the plantains added flavor to the dish and I do like the yellow rice. For how much food you got, $16 is such a steal. Couldn't finish more than half of my plate so I had to get a doggybag. I was so full and I imagine that is probably how a python feels after swallowing an entire cow. Would love to try their other dishes like their chaufas or their Arroz Con Mariscos next time I visit Stamford area again. read more

This was my first experience eating Peruvian food and it was amazing! I've been missing out. We went on a Tuesday night and about 50% of the restaurant was filled. The service was great as all of the waitresses worked together to make sure our needs were met. I don't remember exactly what the dishes we ordered were called but both were phenomenal (see picture). You also get bread with this delicious white sauce that is somewhat spicy. Very unhealthy meal as my plate had French fries, steak, peppers, onions, and rice but amazingly tasteful! Visiting Stamford, I thought it was a great idea to enjoy lunch at Viva this past weekend because I mean you can't go wrong with Peruvian food, right? Sadly, my guest and I weren't very satisfied with our recent visit. The restaurant sits on the main street of Shippan and it was extremely useful that there was parking available right away. Upon entering we were seated almost immediately and ordered a typical Lomo Saltado, Pollo Saltado and an order of the Pollo ala Brasa which wasn't available because we were told they were completely out. No big deal, we opted for another Lomo instead... The staff were all very friendly and we were often checked on to see if our table was fine. The warm pieces of bread with a side of the Aji Sauce made a great impression as we waited for our food. The wait was a bit long but we made the best of it in the meantime. Once the food arrived we all enjoyed ourselves but we came to an agreement that this wasn't the best Peruvian food we had tasted. My personal opinion, I felt like it lacked a lot of flavor, a big NO NO whenever having a Lomo/Pollo Saltado. However, the food is decent and the portions are fair for the prices BUT in the future if I'm ever craving some Peruvian food again I'll most likely opt in for another Peruvian establishment. My wife being from Peru, we are always in a search for good Peruvian food. We found Viva while living in Stamford. The service is always excellent, especially Elizabeth. The food is dependably very good and sometimes knock you socks off amazing. You cant go wrong with their lomo saltado or bistec a lo pobre. Their ceviche is also surprisingly good considering they are not primarily a cevicheria (typical a requirement for good peruvian seafood). Lastly their aji is delicious (the yellow/green sauce) and pairs well with nearly all of their dishes. Overall this is a good solid Peruvian restaurant... ENJOY!! read more

We purchased two fish dinners they were absolutely terrible. No seasoning the red snapper was dry. They claim that they offer three sizes but they never told me when I placed the order. The manager told me that she only had large and that's why she gave me a $28.00 dry fish that was not fresh. This is the first time that my fish was absolutely nasty, no flavor and dry. And the fish had so many little bones I have one caught in my throat. The one downtown Stamford is terrible they must of brought the Shippan restaurant as well. I will not be going back. read more

The waitress failed to get thing's when our food was ordered, failed to check in to see if our food was ok... failed to see if we needed anything boxed up.. failed to offer the check or any desert it was just a mess. The only reason for me to give this place 2 stars is because the food is good and probably great in regular days. For me this wasn't a pleasant experience, this location is set to close at 10pm and so you as a guest think that would be the case, got there around 9:30 and the second I walked in you could see from the things the kitchen was saying and from the servers that we were more of a nuisance than an actual guest, they were more rushed on hurrying us with our food and meal than providing at least a decent service. Ordered chaufa with no meat, told the server we didn't consumed any type of meat and still got eggs on it, also tostones and a choclo with cheese that the first one never got and the second one we got a server bringing it to the table just to mention they had no more cheese but they had the cob.
