After having my baby, I noticed I have very sensitive skin and eyes and have been developing styes. One got so bad I had to actually see a doctor for it. I looked like someone punched me with a side of Quasimodo. It was that bad. My mother-in-law is pretty much the queen of northern Wantagh/Levittown and knows the best when she sees it... so I, of course, asked her for the recommendation. Right away she gave me Dr Greenberg's info. I called in the late afternoon and got the first appointment the very next day. Amazing, right? Too good to be true, perhaps? When I arrived at 7:25, I was the first patient and was taken in right away. The optometry assistant (I work in healthcare and have no clue if that's an actual title- is that what they're called? I'm sorry if I'm completely butchering the entire profession) was SO nice and knowledgeable and quick! You should have seen him typing on his iPad. Fast Fingers McGee. I was then taken to another waiting room and then a different room after that. My only gripe- expect to wait a little bit for the doctor. I was in and out in one hour but, again, I was the first patient. I imagine this place gets busy but as long as I always get an early appointment I think I'll be fine. When I finally met Dr Greenberg, it was like seeing an old friend. I overheard him talking to a different patient and he was asking how her family was. You could tell he truly loves what he does and takes an interest in his patients. As a nurse I know how rare this is nowadays. Dr. Greenberg prescribed me a special type of eye drop and my stye cleared up in two days. This place is really great. The staff treats you like family. It's so easy to get an appointment. And it's literally so clean you could eat off their floors. Color me impressed because ModernEyes did not disappoint! If you live in Levittown/east meadow/Wantagh/massapequa, I highly suggest you use ModernEyes for all your eye care needs.

The tests they do can be uncomfortable but they make you as comfortable as possible. There is a separate waiting area in the back that's dimly lit for dilated eyes. Plenty of TVs around showing HGTV. The exams can be relatively quick and straightforward. The main waiting area in the front is also very welcoming with hangers to hang your coat. Plenty of seating. Wonderful office!

The last page states if you need a prescription there is an additional $35.00 fee for each one written (if you need glasses or contacts). If you need two different scripts, you will pay $70.00 out of your pocket, insurance does not cover this. I asked the person who gave me the exam and he confirmed if I need a prescription written, I will pay for $35.00 for each one! I did a lot of research and believe this is illegal. Why would I go back if I'm going to get scammed? You shouldn't go here either. Under federal law (the FTC's Eyeglass Rule and Contact Lens Rule), you are entitled to a copy of your prescription immediately after an exam is completed, and you cannot be forced to pay a "release fee," "copy fee," or purchase glasses/contacts to receive it.

I have been to other opticians, and their prices tend to be a little on the higher side for eyeglass and contact lens exams alone. Factor in the cost of eyeglasses and contact lenses for astigmatism (that's an extra cost anywhere if you have this condition), and it's easy to rack up that bill. I found We Care for Eyes on Groupon, where they had a promo for $34 contact lens exam (astigmatism not inclusive), and $39 for an eyeglass exam with $200 toward prescription glasses. I had already purchased eyeglass frames, so I knew that I didn't need both. I called them, and spoke with Keira, who honored the Groupon price, less the $200 prescription promo. Again, I have astigmatism, and she stated that that would be an extra $40, which was still competitive compared to other places. She also volunteered to check if my health plan would cover the exams, even without me asking. I was a little skeptical about finding an optician through a promo, but it helped that they had a five-star review on Groupon, five stars on Google, and their Rego Park location also had five stars. Anyway, I made an appointment for last Saturday and was seen right away. Dr. Mezei was professional, friendly and had great bedside manners. Unlike other doctors, she took her time with the exam, didn't put any pressure on me to purchase my contacts through the practice, and gave me different samples to see which type I would be comfortable with most. A member of her staff, Stephanie, fitted me for my glasses. I was promised that both the samples and glasses should be in within a week. What I didn't expect was a phone call on Tuesday to let me know my contact lens samples were ready. Another thing I didn't expect was a phone call today to let me know that my glasses were also ready. This was a huge surprise, as I used to have to call eyewear stores to follow up with them, and they never had anything ready within a week or less. They have an assortment of glasses that range from simple no frills, to extraordinary name brand fancy. So whether you need scripted readers, everyday glasses, contacts, sunglasses, blue light or goggles, they will make sure you are covered. They accept some insurances and naturally have no insurance fair range of options. I have been a client for years getting an assortment of their offerings: contacts, Bluetech glasses [for endless hours of computer work], antiglare night driving and fancy sunglasses. I eventually qualified years ago for Lasik eye surgery and Dr. Sun lead me in the right direction at the time to TLC. Decided I should check my scripts and see a new eye dr. I called and made an appointment with Dr. Craig. They got me in that day and he spent a lot of time with me. He listened to all my concerns and gave me a lot of input and recommendations. I even got a thank you card in the mail a few days later and the doctor personally wrote some other suggestions on the card. I am feeling so blessed to have found him.
