They have also set up video to be able to broadcast from this room. The best part is the large multi-purpose room that can be used as a gym or meeting center. Our senior clubs hold their meetings there as well as our many civic groups taking advantage of the large room and stage. The Kiwanis Club of County Seat Mineola held their annual pancake breakfast there for many years until moving to the High School. There is ample room to house hundreds as well as the stage the could be used for entertainment. There is also a small kitchen in the building. The kitchen is small but is a good staging area. Large events will need to be catered in. There was also a recent lobby and entrance renovation. Hanging on the lobby wall is the John S. DaVanzo "wall of honor" saluting the many past people who did a wonderful job shaping Mineola into the great village and community it is today. Its great to be part of a community that is so community minded.

As soon I entered the lobby, the female security guard greeted me. I asked if there's a fitness room at this rec center. She said there is and politely gave me clear directions to that room. There was a personal trainer in the lobby. As soon as he heard that I was new to the center, he introduced himself and mentioned that he offers free 30 minute sessions. How cool! And very good to know. ATMOSPHERE They offer many things here: fitness room with treadmills, biked, and some strength machines. There's a conference room, where I saw a class or workshop taking place . There's a computer room with 5 to 10 machines. There's also an outdoor pool, which is open the summer. The rooms looked clean. Bathroom looked decent enough.

They are very present in the community, from installing car seats, attending Halloween events, and family days, to providing free smoke detectors. Fire Safety trailers at local events, and at the schools are a regular occurrence. During emergencies, I've witnessed them provided quick and efficient responses. I feel safer knowing that these capable firefighters are protecting my community.

Much like the hospital on the island, this building has strict security. You have to present your ID, and go through a metal detector. The security here will more than likely challenge you on where you're going in the building, unless they recognize you as a regular. This building is kept nice. I found it to be clean throughout. The security staff was friendly to me, and directed me to where I needed to go. The offices I visited here were also staffed with friendly folks. I took care of what I needed to in a short amount of time, and I made my way back to the busy Manhattan streets. I had a quick stop here, but one where I was able to take care of everything efficiently.

I was admiring the male firefighters jacket. He didn't hesitate when I asked if I could take a photo. He was accompanied by a female firefighter and they both were so patient with me as I chattered away like a crazy old lady! FDNY is the best in the world as far as I'm concerned!

I strongly believe I was redirected to hospitals 3.5 miles to 8 miles away from my house due to racial bias . The hospital I requested 1 was located 1.2 miles the other 1.3 miles. One emt was particularly rude. I called to complain at the headquarters office and because I didn't have the name they made a complaint and they said that was all they could do. Funny enough I'm at work today and saw an emt that was possibly one of those who ha dpicked me up. When I asked her if she remembers picking me up the other day she immediately said it was her. She then proceeded to say "I don't care about you". I said but I care and she repeated that "I pick up and drop off and I don't care about you" how is this acceptable behavior of a healthcare professional? I am a nurse and while it is exhausting I DO care about my patients. Her comment is appalling and absolutely disgusting and we are supposed to trust this person when we are sick?

Importantly, they see the value of this city's history, and of preserving historic places. Since historic buildings can translate into tourism dollars if properly preserved, it's shocking to have lost so many truly historic and interesting buildings in recent years. The Poe House on West 3rd street, McGurk's Suicide Hall on East 2nd street, and the Little House at 35 Cooper Square have all been razed or corrupted. GVSHP also gives citations to places that have stood the test of time and maintain their integrity, such as Theatre 80 on St. Mark's Place. Their offices are housed in St. Mark's Church, which is one of the oldest churches in the city, and originally stood on Peter Stuyvesant's farm.
