My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Winner for over 15 years, and I can't give him higher praise. He is not only a skilled doctor but also a genuinely good person who truly cares for his patients. Over the years, he has consistently taken excellent care of my wife's contact lens needs and prescribed me the perfect glasses for both my work and everyday life. If you're looking for a competent, experienced eye doctor who has everything you need right in his office, this is the place. It's not flashy or overdone; it's straightforward, professional, and effective. What stands out most is Dr. Winner's attention to detail and the level of care he provides. He makes sure you leave with exactly what you need for your vision. One experience that really highlighted his dedication happened recently when I developed a severe eye infection. After two unsuccessful urgent care visits, I was about to head to the ER. My wife suggested I reach out to Dr. Winner; even though it was a Saturday. To my surprise, he answered personally and told me to come in right away. What doctor does that these days? He examined me thoroughly, prescribed the right treatment, and gave me more effective care in 30 minutes than urgent care or the ER could have provided. Even more impressive, he followed up with me throughout the weekend and into the following week to make sure I was healing properly. That level of commitment is almost unheard of. Not for everyone. Dr. Winner has a sense of humor that can clash. Normally, once I'm comfortable, I can joke with the best of them, but just because I cuss once doesn't mean we all jump on the crass joke train. Overall this was not a comfortable appointment. In addition to the above, I asked for my PD at the end when it wasn't part of my script, (I normally get a few cheap pairs of glasses from different sites whenever I get my eyes checked), and though he did eventually give me the number, he was VERY upset that I was going to order from someone other than him, (even though I did order one pair at Visual Eyes). I get the reasoning behind it, I have other friends in the field, but it's still my choice. read more

I don't know why I didn't come here until last year. Dr. Winner is about the most down to earth guy you'll meet. He did everything he could to keep my cost down, and made me feel like I was an old friend. I was part of two contact lens studies with this office. Dr. Winner and his staff were professional and thorough. I don't remember getting my eyes tested so extensively as Dr. Winner did with the studies. The office has a decent selection of frames. It's not a big operation, so don't expect an assembly line experience. If you are in the east Roswell area, I would recommend checking out Visual Eyes. My husband came here for an eye exam after he noticed he wasn't able to see at night. Dr. Winner was fantastic and made it easy for my 40 year old husband who has never been to an eye doctor. The doc is thorough, a little too talkative. As observed by another reviewer, is "militant" in his insistence about certain matters (he was not happy when I said I will get a second opinion about something from a doc of my choice and not his referral. He almost went ballistic that made me suspicious. The usual mix of appealing to the limbic brain -- fear and then an appeal to my intelligence -- to get me in line didn't work.) He looked as though as I was out of line when I asked him to explain the numbers on my prescription to educate me as I always like to be in the know about what is going on with my body and health. And how the Sph/Cyl/Meridian were changing with age. Overall, a fair professional and was pretty good in his main job as an optometrist. I may go again, as I do want insights -- even if False Positives -- so that I can cross check to confirm and proceed as I see fit after getting expert opinions from multiple sources. David Winner is a jerk. I've never particularly liked him, but I've been too lazy to go somewhere else since his "office" is close to my house. Like most economically minded folk, I order my contacts online. Every single time I placed an order, he figured out a way to hold it up. It's obvious that he just wants people to buy from him at a markup rather than cheaper online for the same product. This time around he claimed that the prescription was incorrect. I explained to him that I took the prescription straight off the box and that I've had that prescription for at least a year. I have the records from 1-800-Contacts to prove it. He got incredibly defensive and hung up on me. His lack of professionalism and militant insistance on forcing people to buy from him is disgusting. I'm officially in the market for a new eye doctor who, I don't know, actually graduated from medical school. read more

Wow to even read the reviews and see this is not the only time is sad. I unfortunately will be denying my appointment scheduled here due to the Discomfort while visiting as a walk in to get a exam quote. I don't think anyone would feel comfortable first having to stand around and get no greeting while listening to What I thought was a customer but the actual Dr talk talk talk and not acknowledge me for almost 10mins it honestly felt like. Second, to assume first hand I have no insurance and will not be able to afford the full cost , I couldn't have felt more judged. After the horrible introduction it just got worse. The Dr continued to use the word "cheap" and even asked me if I had any money to afford the year worth of contacts due to me only wanting only the amount my insurance covered at the time! I really had to correct this man on my income as well as what I prefer to use then what he wanted to just throw at me to buy as if Christmas isn't 2 days away! As much as he wanted to add humor nothing he was saying was funny and only made me want to get out of there as fast as I could....overall There was so much I could address in this small conversation that was just plan mind blowing and rude but all the other reviews should tell you enough as well as mine. My advice to the doctor is don't judge a book by it's cover. As an black women getting questioned on my income first hand was the most disgusting thing ever. There was no questions only assumptions that I couldn't afford the service and Wanted only CHEAP quality. I'll definitely be taking my service as well as my insurance else where. read more

Dr. Winner's sense of humor is not for everyone, but as a snarky, inappropriate person my own self, I appreciated getting along without having to tread carefully. I was visiting as part of a contact lens study, and had the opportunity to witness his obviously close relationship with other patients. His staff is well trained, and very prompt about answering questions. I only wish he were closer - and the selection of frames tends toward the fancy designer, I will continue to purchase my glasses online, but will probably purchase my contacts from the office. read more

I went to Dr. Winner several years ago for an eye exam, and contacts. He diagnosed that I had glaucoma. He really saved my eyes. I had to see a glaucoma specialist. If it weren't for Dr. Winner's skills, my glaucoma most-likely would not have been discovered until I was in mush worse shape. Dr, Winner is a fantastic eye doctor. He, like everyone else is just trying to make a lving. So the person who is complaining about the price of her contacts should realize that you usually get what you pay for. J read more

I love dr Winner! He's always helpful and makes it entertaining, considering going to the eye doctor (or any dr) is never usually any fun! I've been going here for close to 10 years now, first because of convenience but he does such a great job I keep coming back for consistently great service. Zoe at the front desk is awesome!! The Dr. wasn't for me, though. He was very argumentative and didn't listen well. He only offers the premium options on his eyeglasses and so of course that costs more. He told me I could take my Rx somewhere else if I wanted to, I should've gone with my instinct at that comment and done so. The exam itself wasn't terrible but I've never had a doctor interact with me the way that he did, snapping at me when I instinctively moved my head up or down to try and see better or took my hand off my eye before he told me to. "Let's do this my way, okay??" was one comment. He couldn't get the glasses right after two tries, and basically called me a liar when I said my mid-range vision in them was very blurry (his exact words were 'that's impossible!'). Zoe and another customer were present at the time. They were better on long distance than my previous glasses but significantly worse on mid and short range. He told me that I 'couldn't have everything', my home monitor was in the wrong place (he can't know exactly because he has never seen it and ignored the facts that my old glasses work fine on it and that also I couldn't read or see well ANYthing close or middle with the new ones), that I just needed to give my eyes a couple days to adjust (I did on the first pair but when the second had the same instant blurriness, eye strain, and headache starting after four hours I just gave up), and to stop comparing them to my old glasses (which were/are still better and more comfortable overall). He also kept putting words into my mouth. For example, I told him that the new glasses were better at long range but worse at mid and short. A couple of minutes later when I still maintained, after him trying to convince me otherwise, that the new glasses were blurry at mid and short, my other comment turned into "well you couldn't see at all at long range with the old ones!!" Zoe and another customer were present during this exchange, too. I decided after two failed pairs and the way that I was being treated that I had probably better just return everything and start over somewhere else, as I didn't know if the problem was in the exam/prescription or the production of the glasses. He absolutely refused to give me my prescription (my insurance company wants to compare it to the new Rx to determine whether or not to pay for another doctor's exam) unless I allowed him to keep the co-pay I had already made. Since this happened I learned that, legally, he was supposed to have provided me with the Rx when I paid for the exam (I also paid for the glasses up front). He did give me the first Rx upon my request, but not the second, amended one after a brief re-exam. I will just hope he provides it to the insurance company. There is more, but this is long enough already. Ultimately, this was a very stressful experience and a waste of that time. Again, Zoe was great, but Dr. Winner was very unprofessional with me and even a bit...bullying, and I still have to go somewhere else to get the correct lenses. I would not recommend him to anyone. read more

This was the 6th pair of glasses Dr Winner has made for me. I have a very difficult prescription and am not an easy pt to fit. I have been many other places and they just don't want to listen to what I have to say! Dr Winner sat down with me and patiently listened and fit my glasses perfectly. I have recommended hi to others as I do not like going back for redo's and I feel comfortable that he will take care of them also. If you are looking for a Dr that will listen to what you have to say, he is the man for you. You also don't feel rushed to pick out your frames. I have been a patient of Dr. Winner for 10 years. Right from the start he corrected a slight astigmatism that was causing my eyes to repeatedly need stronger and stronger corections for me to see clearly. Every other Optometrist that I had seen for the previous 20 yrs, only perscribed a stronger perscription and sent me on my way.
