Last fall we had a color made up at Janovic on 7th Avenue (not 3rd Ave) by bringing in the sample…read morewhich was something that a professional artist had developed. Janovic made the paint and they put the label on top constituting the various colors and the base that was involved. Then they slapped a circle with a small color swatch over it. Now you can't see the formula. We contacted them and sent a pic and said "can you pull up this formula?" They said yes, we have it we have it in our Database. If you want more come by and we'll make it for you." Well we thought great but we don't want more. We just want the formula since we provided the original color to you in case we want to make it later on. "They said we can't do it...it's proprietary. " (I can assure you they have made paint from Sherwin-Williams or Farrow-Ball. But this isn't even another Co.'s paint. This is Benjamin Moore paint and we provided the proprietary paint chip for them to make it. Anyone with a decent spectrophotometer can copy a paint ---it happens all the time but it's not like we were stealing something. This was our paint! I said "you have already given us the formula, but you covered it up! We paid for the paint. You should at least share the formula again." I then went to a different Benjamin Moore dealer, showed them a photo of the paint and explained the situation. They were stunned. We tried to get them to match it from the photo, but it isn't accurate. They found it absurd that Janovic would withhold the formula for a color we had already paid to have made. As a matter of fact, they didn't charge us for the four different samples they made trying to match it. But trying to match color on an iPhone is ridiculous. My advice: if you bring in a custom paint sample, make sure you write down the formula or make sure that it's visible-- just in case you ever want to use a different Benjamin Moore dealer, move and want to recreate the color later. This isn't a proprietary issue. If anything, they're the ones holding our proprietary color hostage. The other Benjamin Moore dealer I spoke with called the situation representative of poor service that is non-client centric, and said it was clear Janovic cared more about making a sale than serving the customer. As that dealer put it: "They gave you the formula, you just can't read it -- and now they're making you buy more paint just to get the formula they already gave you, but you can't see ???? They don't deserve your business." Perhaps they only provide good customer service when they're going to make a sale. There are better much options. And there are clearly other Benjamin Moore retailers who are willing to help.

My experience with P C Richard and son has always been outstanding…read more I am appalled that people actually don't rate it higher. Sure there have been some issues such as my multi unit order may be out of stock for some reason or other. However, I get Nathan Morales (I consider him my guy) or Assistant Managers (Dean) and speak calmly and nicely to them and all gets made right as soon as is possible. I've been with Nathan since 2015 when Best Buy called me and told me that my new refrigerator could not be delivered on the date they said they would but would have to be thirty days in the future. I ran out to PC Richards, saw Nathan and my PC Richards fridge was delivered the next day. A decade later and I am a loyal customer. This last trip resulted in three air conditions, a mattress (great price BTW), two vacuums, toaster and toaster oven and an iron (who could resist a $14 iron). I couldn't. I paid for installation $195 and the installers didn't install the rear grill which apparently is a vital piece for this unit to work properly. For a month we were dealing with an AC unit that would blow cold air for 5min then just regular air. My smart plug told me, we paid over $100 just for that device. It took weeks to get a diagnosis, and the another week to get the part that the initial installers didn't take out of the box. On PC Richards 2nd attempt to install the missing part, that person came hours after the expected time at which point he could not install it. Now I have to wait again and take time off work dealing with this hot summer and no AC. Ultimately, we found someone else an extra $200 to install it correctly. For almost a month now, we were dealing with an AC unit that would blow cold air for 5min then just regular air. David Danon was the primary point of contact. This review is long overdue. I wanted to wait and see how the paint actually held up over time…read morebefore forming an opinion. First - The customer service is the absolute best! I called the store, I'd visited it in the past to check out their wallpaper (some of the patterns are absolutely gorgeous, worth going there just for ideas). The sales rep was very knowledgeable; she explained the differences between products and colors. After reviewing several test strips (I had collected in the past), I placed an order through the Flatiron store. They offered door to door delivery, which was so convenient. I repainted an entire home, three floors, multiple rooms. Since the home was over 200 years old with original details, I needed a paint color that would match the original sense of the home without looking too outdated. I must have gone through 300 different paint colors, I did Samplize, tested the paint on the actual walls, checked the LRVs, under different lighting (because a paint will look one way in direct sunlight but completely different under LED lighting). I think I drove myself a little crazy. I mean how many shades of white can there be??? Dozens! And they all look a little different. Money vs Aesthetics - While I really wanted to save money, the more time I spent with the Farrow and Ball colors, the more I fell in love with them. When I told the painter that I was using this brand he said "it's too hard to use." Skeptical, I asked around. It's not hard to use; he was an inexperienced painter. So I went with Farrow and Ball for the parlor level and smaller rooms and Benjamin Moore for the rest. After a year of heavy use, both paints have held up well. From an aesthetic perspective, the colors for Farrow and Ball are well worth the added expense IMO - particularly for an older home with unique design attributes (small corners, brass elements, original wood tones etc). While renovating one house, I also did a second one with a realtor for a planned sale/rental. I did not use Farrow and Ball due to cost considerations. The other house was modern and modern paint colors were fine. Bonus feature - The coverage from Farrow and Ball was where the brand really shines. During the renovation, a contractor wrote all over a small section of drywall- in black permanent ink. After scrubbing it for 30 minutes, I finally gave up. I allowed the wall to dry and then painted it with 2 coats of FB "all white" paint. No primer, lol, because I was simply exhausted by the whole process. It was a small section of wall but after I was done, someone entered the kitchen and said "nice paint job!" I wanted to say, the credit doesn't belong to me, it belongs to the paint -- the paint is simply magical !
