I love getting checked out at different airports with different schools in different airplanes for rental purposes. Whiteman was airport #4, Vista was school #6 and their plane was #9 for me. I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the check-out process was. From the traffic on my drive over there, the friendliness of the staff, the skills and teaching style of the CFI, the current state of the airplane, the detailedness of the paperwork, everything was wonderful. Oh, and nobody beats their pricing! I did not get any rating here, so cannot comment on the overall training but been back several times now and met various people and all I can say that it is a very solid flight school. Was it any closer to my house, would have had my initial training here.

I did all my training and succeeded in getting my private pilot certificate at Vista. My instructor was Robert Illian, and I can't imagine there being a better flight instructor on earth. He is patient, kind, extremely knowledgeable, cool as a cucumber. Facility is great, the prices are reasonable, and you can't beat Whiteman Airport as a location for learning to fly in Southern California.

Planes are very well maintained and some instructors are very thorough with their instruction. Decently priced rental.

Recently, I decided it was finally time to see whether learning to fly was something I wanted to pursue, so I booked a discovery flight with Essence Flight School. It was an incredible experience! My instructor was knowledgeable, patient, engaging, and made the entire flight both fun and educational. I had the opportunity to learn some basic maneuvers, including making left and right turns, performing a 360-degree turn, maintaining straight-and-level flight, and getting a feel for the aircraft controls. It was such a unique and rewarding experience. If you've ever been curious about flying, I highly recommend scheduling a discovery flight. It's the perfect way to see if aviation is right for you. I'll definitely be back to learn more about earning my pilot's license. Thank you to my instructor and everyone at Essence Flight School for making my first flight such a memorable one!

(Here is the reason's why) I never been in person to this place. And I called them and let them know about my weight cause I know with Cessna 172 , it is going to be tight since I am 6'3" with 280 pounds,Tall and big guy. But he told me I am over weight (which probably I am) and it is impossible for me so he said I have to choose multi engine to be able to lift me which is 500 $ for me. No way I am paying for 60 minutes discovery flight. So, I asked him if I sign up as a student, how do I able to learn an aircraft an he said I have to pay extra 20 k since I need a bigger airplane. Feels really insulted on the last question. So if you are a big guy then this is really not a best option cause they don't find a solution for you with care. And even in my mind, if the discovery flight goes well and the vibes of the school was good, I was going to sign up as a student for PPL program and now their first impression on me was really trash and I am disappointed.

There was also more to be said about the feeling of awe and the sense of just how small a microcosm we really are in this vast, beautiful, natural and manmade world. We chose the sunset tour, which took us in a loop from the east towards downtown, across Wilshire and back up to Hollywood. Our flight took off on time and the pilot was more than helpful in pointing out the major landmarks and celeb homes. I have lived in LA all my life, and it was still a thrill to be close enough to catch them working on the Hollywood sign, to see the familiar attractions on the Universal lot and to view the stretches and stretches of recognizable roads, freeways and towns I have so frequently crossed. Highrises from downtown, Century City, Wilshire Corridor and Hollywood sprung from a land of smaller buildings, homes and the occasional reservoir. I am no follower of who and what lives in posh areas of town, but the lavish acres of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg - to name a few - raised eyebrows for sure! The tour was only about 25 minutes, but felt much longer. My only regret was having not done this sooner. Loved every second, and would not hesitate to return. The pilot was very friendly, as was the front desk receptionist/cart driver/assistant. The bare office was minimal and - yes - there were only the two people working. They had back to back flights, so if you are on time, you will wait and the office clerk will take you in the cart to their helicopter as it lands with the prior party, and you get in the helicopter as a passenger leaves, one at a time. It takes time for the helo to stop and start up again. The party after us was late, so we had to stay in the helo an extra several minutes for it to stop. Watching a helo "brake" by the way, was interesting. ;) The office itself is a little difficult to find. After you make a left onto Osborne from San Fernando Road, make the THIRD left onto Airpark Way (past the Fire Station). Keep driving up the loop until halfway up, you will see the sign for Adventure Helicopters. They have a code to get into the gate to park, which they should provide when you make the reservation. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as we did. :)

As a native of Los Angeles I was able to see places I go past on a regular basis from a totally different perspective even though one can say they see the same thing looking out an airplane window on the landing approach but that's totally not even close to the same experience. Going up in the helicopter you feel yourself elevating and it's nothing like taking off in an airplane. Pros: You get up to about 600 ft in the air and cruise at about 100mph. If you know your landmarks you can easily find your way around the flight path and at that height you're able to see activity on the ground clearly. The guy working the place, Vic was pretty cool and the same goes for our pilot who pointed out the notable celeb houses nestled around Beverly Hills. Cons: Only one. I'm a germaphobe so having to wear the headsets was a bit off putting, however, that was forgotten once we left the ground. Advice, if you suffer from motion sickness, I recommend taking something before hand. My girlfriend gets seasick and forgot to take something for it when we went up and wasn't feeling very well towards the end of the tour because the day we took the tour it was a bit breezy which was great for the view but there was definitely some chop which even affected me and I don't get seasick easily.

I started my private pilot license training with California Flight School in the beginning of 2023. I have a full time job, so part time lessons worked best for me. My weekly lessons are the best part of my week, I love flying with Uwe for a number of reasons, so I will do my best to explain why I continue to chose this school and would recommend to any of my friends or loved ones. Firstly, I always feel safe when flying with Uwe. He has over 26 years experience being a flight instructor, he knows this stuff like the back of his hand, and is a trustworthy advisor when explaining the importance of why he does things the way he does. He empowers his students with all of the best information to first and foremost keep everyone safe. Secondly, he is a no-bull kind of guy that will always give you the most honest and accurate information. Trust is a big thing when investing this amount of money and time. I trust him implicitly. He is honest about the costs, the time, the commitment, and will be honest in his feedback. I truly appreciate this quality bc it is often lacking in this day and age, and means a lot when I know of other predatory schools that will take your money and run. Thirdly, he is fun! He makes the whole experience exciting even though it's the millionth time he has taught this. To me, it's all brand new, and his personality and love for aviation shines through in every conversation and flight. He is the reason I love my flight school and will continue with him for future licenses, instrument rating and beyond. Thank you Uwe and everyone at California Flight School for helping make my lifelong dream become reality! BEST FLIGHT SCHOOL ON THE WEST COAST!

I was hesitant at first because of the parking situation, the price (WOW SO AFFORDABLE?!), and the location, but the program is on the state-approved list. After the class ended on the last day, we were given the exam links right away and were able to test without delays. Albert knows phlebotomy inside and out, and he teaches in a very compressed, straightforward way. Since I'm already in the medical field, a lot of the material felt familiar, and many of my classmates also had prior medical experience. What I appreciated most is that Albert wastes no time--he's very goal-oriented and focused on getting you trained, certified, and ready to move forward. You could tell he wants you to succeed! Before enrolling, I visited the location myself so I could understand the parking situation. It's a shared space, which is normal for smaller medical training programs.
