There is something about taking flight in vertical form, traveling at 45 degree angles and being close enough to earth to recognize the major buildings of four different cities in one view. There was also more to be said about the feeling of awe and the sense of just how small a microcosm we really are in this vast, beautiful, natural and manmade world. We chose the sunset tour, which took us in a loop from the east towards downtown, across Wilshire and back up to Hollywood. Our flight took off on time and the pilot was more than helpful in pointing out the major landmarks and celeb homes. I have lived in LA all my life, and it was still a thrill to be close enough to catch them working on the Hollywood sign, to see the familiar attractions on the Universal lot and to view the stretches and stretches of recognizable roads, freeways and towns I have so frequently crossed. Highrises from downtown, Century City, Wilshire Corridor and Hollywood sprung from a land of smaller buildings, homes and the occasional reservoir. I am no follower of who and what lives in posh areas of town, but the lavish acres of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg - to name a few - raised eyebrows for sure! The tour was only about 25 minutes, but felt much longer. My only regret was having not done this sooner. Loved every second, and would not hesitate to return. The pilot was very friendly, as was the front desk receptionist/cart driver/assistant. The bare office was minimal and - yes - there were only the two people working. They had back to back flights, so if you are on time, you will wait and the office clerk will take you in the cart to their helicopter as it lands with the prior party, and you get in the helicopter as a passenger leaves, one at a time. It takes time for the helo to stop and start up again. The party after us was late, so we had to stay in the helo an extra several minutes for it to stop. Watching a helo "brake" by the way, was interesting. ;) The office itself is a little difficult to find. After you make a left onto Osborne from San Fernando Road, make the THIRD left onto Airpark Way (past the Fire Station). Keep driving up the loop until halfway up, you will see the sign for Adventure Helicopters. They have a code to get into the gate to park, which they should provide when you make the reservation. What a great experience! I bought this as a totally different activity for me and my girlfriend to experience. I had no idea what I was in for. As a native of Los Angeles I was able to see places I go past on a regular basis from a totally different perspective even though one can say they see the same thing looking out an airplane window on the landing approach but that's totally not even close to the same experience. Going up in the helicopter you feel yourself elevating and it's nothing like taking off in an airplane. Pros: You get up to about 600 ft in the air and cruise at about 100mph. If you know your landmarks you can easily find your way around the flight path and at that height you're able to see activity on the ground clearly. The guy working the place, Vic was pretty cool and the same goes for our pilot who pointed out the notable celeb houses nestled around Beverly Hills. Cons: Only one. I'm a germaphobe so having to wear the headsets was a bit off putting, however, that was forgotten once we left the ground. Advice, if you suffer from motion sickness, I recommend taking something before hand. My girlfriend gets seasick and forgot to take something for it when we went up and wasn't feeling very well towards the end of the tour because the day we took the tour it was a bit breezy which was great for the view but there was definitely some chop which even affected me and I don't get seasick easily. read more

I don't normally travel around in helicopters but found a great Living Social deal for this business. I expected to be ok just because flying around in a helicopter sounds fun. But what made the flight incredible was the pilot. Unfortunately I forgot his name, but he was personable and friendly. You could tell he took time to figure us out and see if we wanted banter back and forth or just enjoy the ride in silence. The route was amazing. We not only flew over several movie studios and houses of the stars, we even flew between buildings downtown! It was like being inside a movie when they shoot those dramatic fly-overs. Definitely a highlight. Then there was the Hollywood sign. He did a quick fly by on one side the swung around and hovered a bit to give us time to take some great shots of the sign. Located at such a small airport, I thought the experience would be lacking in the customer service department. But the flight was everything they promised and a little more. I would definitely go back for the coastline sunset flight. I would also recommend it as an impressive start to a romantic evening. read more

While in LA last weekend, a bud invited me along for his birthday gift - an adrenaline rushed cruise through the Hollywood Hills in a doors off helicopter. Being the demure wallflower that I am, I declined. NOT. We drove out to Pacoima (what the heck is a pacoima?)) early Sunday morning...turns out that on Sunday mornings, you can actually go 60 miles in 60 minutes in the LA area...who knew? So after we blew off the extra hour we had to wait (since we had planned on more typical LA weekend traffic patterns), we went to the AHT terminal, where we filled out paperwork (read: signing life away), and then got on a golf cart for the ride out to the copter. And oh what a cool little copter it was. No doors, barely big enough to fit four (that would definitely have required a large shoehorn), it offered promise of fantastic views of the terrain while flying. And ohhhh did it deliver! We took off and headed SW - flying over the Van Nuys Bud/swill plant and the VN airport, before heading into the Hollywood Hills. After buzzing a few stars homes (neither one of us really cared one way or the other about where spelling/smith/osborne/whoever lives, but I suspect that a large part of their target might), we headed out Malibu Canyon to the coast. Talk about a temp shift! Flying south to the Santa Monica pier, we then flew over UCLA, Century City, and W. Hollywood, before heading into Hollywood proper...following the main drag, of course. We then flew to downtown LA, checking out prep work at Dodger Stadium as they got ready for hosting the Nationals (they crushed same 3-1)...we JUST beat the flight restrictions (no one flies over as the game gets closer to start time). Buzzing downtown, we then headed to the Hollywood sign, doing a photo op and a CLOSE fly-by. Finally, we headed back via Laurel Canyon and after buzzing Burbank Airport, headed back to Pacoima. All in all, a fantastic way to see LA - as long as I had lived there, never even thought of doing this...definitely my bad! The only thing that got to me was that the pilot looked like he was in grade school....(it CAN'T be my age group..no way!). Other than that nit, this was uber-awesome...highly recommended! read more

We had a great time on this tour. We did the #4 tour which was a 45 minute tour that combined the Hollywood landmarks with the beach. I would not suggest anything less if you can afford it. We found at the end of 45 minutes, we would have liked to stay up longer. As noted in other reviews, we had booked a flight in April and it was cancelled due to visibility. The rescheduled flight worked however. The first one was a 12 noon flight but when we rescheduled, we booked 5pm thinking the haze would burn off by then. Oh, and they were very accommodating in remapping the flight a bit when we wanted to fly over the LA Zoo and Warner Brothers. All in all, highly recommended, think about when you do book and be prepared to be flexible if having to rebook and try to take the longer flight. read more

Booked this for a birthday 24 hours before over the phone. Was able to get all the details and pricing straight-forwardly. Upon arriving, we settled the bill, signed our life away and I mentioned my package with the champagne. We got that chilled right away, which we were allowed to drink before, during, and/or after the flight. We met our Pilots, Ryan and Art, who were exceptional with their customer service and very personable with us. They created many laughs and jokes with us as to make our trip much more enjoyable. They were both willing and offered to take pictures for us before our flight. Our tour was LA ADVENTURE TOUR 4 where we were able to see landmarks like the Hollywood sign, celebrity homes, and a quick trip to the beach. We flew for 45 minutes and Ryan and Art made sure we got the close-up pictures that we wanted of certain scenery. We had such a great time and saw so much! I'd recommend them. We bought a 30 minute flight for 3 for my son's 4th birthday. My father flew fixed wing and helicopters since the '30s until giving it up in the '90s. I grew up flying, but our son never got to fly with him. Arturo, the Adventure Helicopter Tours pilot, was very professional and an excellent pilot. I was also impressed with his multitasking between radio chatter and showing us points of interest. The R44 is a very pleasant helicopter to be in, quiet and smooth at speed. Note: Adventure does offer a discount (at Pacoima anyway) for people driving from OC. This is sensible since the drive isn't short and there are competitors. Overall, while not a cheap date, Adventure is well priced and professional. Our son loved the tour! read more

The flight was by the numbers and safe; plenty of communication with flight control as well as asking for our comfort level. If you have any reservations about flying, this is no big deal. It's like being in a tall building everywhere you go. I've been wanting to do this for years and the Groupon deal came at the right time. For the Groupon price, the duration seemed right, as much as I would have liked to have spent more time in the air. Perhaps next time I'll aim for something closer to sundown for the warmer ambient lighting. Make sure to park inside the gates. I bought a deal on Zozi for a 15 minute red carpet flight over the Hollywood sign but, lucky me, my flight turned into 30 min. over Hollywood, Downtown and the Valley. Saw all the major sights and then some. The pilot, Art, is both skilled in flying (I felt very safe) and is a great narrator. He landed our little red Clipper II on a dime. I got lots of great pics and am a very satisfied customer. I've lived in L.A. all my life and really enjoyed seeing my beautiful city up close. Definitely worth every penny! read more

BEST THING I HAVE DONE IN LA!!! Seriously so awesome. This experience made me want to take flying lessons, and I hope I can do so later this year. A helicopter ride from Pacoima (area north of Burbank) through the Hollywood hills and into Downtown and across the Hollywood sign (30 mins). Such breath taking views!!! I've lived in this city my entire life and who knew LA was so beautiful! NO wonder all the celebrities hide out in the Hollywood hills-- it's amazing there ( or so it seemed from the helicopter, haha!). Our pilot pointed out celebrity homes and major LA landmarks from above. We continued to cruise down Sunset Blvd and then wrapped around Downtown and Dodgers stadium and flew by the Hollywood sign. Oh man I wish I had a helicopter!!! The ride was amazing and our pilot was very professional. Not going to lie, it is pricey but definitely worth a try at least one time in your life. Got this trip booked by having a groupon deal and thought to use it as a birthday gift. Patrick and Ryan met us and even Ryan called in advance to say that it might be foggy and we can reschedual, however we went on the flight either way. I PROPOSED to my girlfriend (now fiance) on this helicopter tour and it turned out to be the best thing I could have ever done. The reservation, the pilot, the helicopter ride, it was all perfect. My very good friend went down to the beach earlier that day and carved out "the question" in the sand and I told the pilot we had to get there before the sun went down. He timed it perfectly and we got there just at the perfect moment when the sun was setting on the water. Pilot flew over the beach in several circles so we could enjoy the moment and my fiance has raving about it for weeks. It was a huge hit! Had an amazing experience! It was my first helicopter ride, and I had a wonderful time. Service was great and pilot Shawn Baker was the best part of this tour. He made it feel safe and fun at the same time. The only downer was that the tour felt short (less than 20-25 mins)and didn't match up to the description that was listed under the tour package itself. This is the only time I am sorry that Yelp doesn't allow you to award negative stars. My wife purchased the valentines day Groupon and called to schedule the flight, she spoke to the pilot and the owner and scheduled the trip for last monday. All day we tried to contact the company to confirm the flight, but heard nothing from them. We made the one hour drive to the airport, about 15 minutes before the flight we got hold of the pilot, who had informed us firstly that the helicopter was down for maintenance, and that the owner had removed us from the schedule ( he was aware of this, because the pilot was the one who originally booked us). I called and spoke to the pilot who informed me the reason that no one answered the phones was that the line was transferred to the owners cell phone and he wasn't answering the calls or messages. He rescheduled us for next week, however I asked that the owner give me a call and so we can discuss the situation (I took the afternoon off work and don't appreciate my time being taken advantage of). I gave him until this morning (Thursday, 3 days) to return my call, he did not. This morning I called and the owner, Avis, answered the phone. I mentioned to him what had happened and that I had left several messages for him, that he hadn't returned. He was very beligerant from the start, telling me that he didn't see a problem with what happened, and that I should just reschedule, no appology, no consideration. He then asked me if this was a Groupon, which I replied yes, he then proceeded to shout at me telling me to call Groupon for a refund and then he hung up on me. When I am putting my life and my families life in the hands of a company, I want to know that they are a responsible outfit. If this is the way that Avis maintains the lifeblood of his business, his cutomers, it makes me wonder how he maintains his aircraft... read more

The flight was great. The pilot was great. Wasn't as long as advertised. Really the only reason I'm giving it such a low rating is because the owner I'm guessing, some guy with an Indian type accent. Was so incredibly rude when trying to figure out my reservations, made things so much more difficult for me then it needed to be. Simple questions can be answered, but not when your interrupted 12 times a second and told he doesn't have time to talk. Are you serious? Why so shady? look at their Better Business Bureau rating: F. The pilot deserves to work somewhere much better then this place. Him and flight was a great experience once we found our way there with forced help by the Owner. It's too bad. Bought a "romantic twilight tour with champagne and chocolate" for my girlfriend and I. Booking a time that worked for us was hard but the woman from the company was nice and understanding about the cancels and re-booking. But once there it was a shit show. No one to greet us in the dirty lobby with broken helicopter models displayed in a case. BROKEN HELICOPTERS IN OUR FACES before going up in a helicopter. A young guy came out finally and asked if we were the appoint for 8, he was dismissive and it appeared we were bugging him with our showing up. The champagne was 5 buck bottle red in a clear plastic sampler cups...he offered to mix the red with the left over white since he had to use it anyway. Chocolate was sampler pieces still in the wrappers, he threw a few on a plate. The ride was cool, the pilot was great, he pointed out spots and took us over downtown since it was to dark for our Hollywood tour. But the above guy tagged along on the ride and proceeded to text, he was in the front so the bright light ruined the mood (Pilot finally told him to put it away). The guy's headset was not working, but his microphone did...for the first half he kept blowing directly into the micro and grunting loudly to sound check it. Let me place some speakers on your ears and then blow directly into the mic. Guy also drove the cart to and from the hanger like a 10 year old's first time his dad let him handle the golf cart. Worst experience of my life! I dropoed over 1000 bucks to get their full limo, dinner, sunset package. the limo driver showed up 45 min late then got lost on the way to the airport which then put us back 2 hrs. When we arrived, the employees on duty had totally forgot we were coming and made us feel like us being there was a total inconvenience for them. Our champagne was warm and or fight that was suppose to be an hour was barely 30 min. After the flight, we headed to the restaurant that the company uses in the package. They too had no idea we were coming and we're about an hour from closing and basically threw us our food and rushed us out. We then took the provided limo straight home and called it a night. Two days later I received a call from adventure asking me where we had the limo driver take us after dinner because they got a bill from the limo company say we went 3 hrs over our allowed time and that the driver said after dinner he took us to a couple bars (total lie!)... I tried to explain to the adventure guy that the driver was lying and was just trying to cover his ass for getting lost on the way over, pushing everything back in time but he didn't believe me and charged my credit card 400 bucks. I even faxed them copies of our recept from dinner and a statement from the manager and they still told me I was lying and refused to give me my money back! This happened a few years ago but I just happened to come across their website and felt sick to my stomach, so I just had to make this review ... read more

So far, I am trying to contact (888-933-5952) these guys for past two days to get my groupon redeemed and every time i am getting a voice mail. Took the sunset tour with champagne and chocolate with my girlfriend. I bought a deal at Local Deals LA. It was easy to book the tour and the staff was friendly. The place its a bit outside "LA", but only took 20 min from Hollywood. First let me say, that it was really cool and amazing to see LA from above. I definitely think everyone living in LA should try such a flight and view from the above! However dont do this as a "romantic" tour or even a date. The champagne you get is in a cheep plastic cup and is consumed in the very used couch in the reception, and the chocolate was 3 pieces to share. It was very cheep and a bit tacky. I was there with my girlfriend, so we just laughed a bit about it, but we could both imagine if this was a date, then the inviter would be very disapointed. The pilot was as typical guy from California - which I love - and he was very friendly and pointed out important things to see on the tour. The tour it self was amazing and really cool. The tour was set to be aprox 25-30 min, but it was only 20 min (I filmed it all the way) and the first thing I pilot said when we returned to the airport was, that the other guy wasn't there. Well maybe thats because you came back early dude!! I'd love to give this place 5 stars based on our pilot alone but unfortunately my fiancée and I's experience leading up to our departure gets a 1 out of 5 stars(a zero if we had a choice). The company is run by a bunch of bafoons, much more interested in us viewing their pitch reality program promo than watching a safety video not to mention the $3 bottle of champagne. My fiancé had the amazing idea of proposing to me on the chopper ride with a banner across his property asking me to marry him. After numerous attempts of trying to get in touch with the coordinator he was constantly stumped with no return phone calls or emails(should have been the first sign of things to come). Too late at this point to turn back he decides to go ahead as planned. With no calls returned re: planning of flight trip he gets called a few hours prior to departure with promises of an upgraded tour and nothing to worry about in an upgraded chopper even though we had already agreed to a private tour in the NOTAR over the phone. Everythin was supposedly set up when I come to find out later my bf is giving the pilot blind directions to his house from the airport. We show up and suffer through the crappy champagne and terrible reality video pitch preparing for our flight when two other ladies show up. Positive they were on another ride we over hear them ask the owner if they were on the same tour as us. "yeah" under his breath he says, as my fiancé proceeds to get red in the face and ask for an explanation privately in the other room. The explanation being that he has upgraded our tour time thus without mention adding extra passengers to the tour(though they were great sports after they found out I was getting proposed to and even after offering to pay for our tour, though never following through.) Too late to pull out my fiancé goes ahead as planned while we are forced to the back seat where we are separated by a huge beam instead of being relegated to the normal front seats where the doors were off. Luckily my bf has his witts about him and finds the property with the banner(not an easy task from the air sitting in the backseat on the opposite side as the pilot.) In closing it's unfortunate that these guys can't get their act together. The pilot and the actual tour was very memorable though the overall experience was seriously underwhelming due to managements incompetence. Also to note was that I left a necklace on the chopper that was used as a decoy present to my ring on our anniversary. After numerous calls and messages left I got no return call. Weeks later after getting a hold of them they have no recollection of who I am and even have the gall to ask my bf to secretly go pick up a replica of the decoy bc they were sure they couldn't find it as the don't operate a lost n found. NOT ROMANTIC AT ALL. Huge waste of time and money. The Champagne is served in a sweaty lobby in plastic cups by a teenager. Your "romantic sunset tour" is not even private and other random people are in the helicopter with you. The whole thing lasts what feels like 15 mins and overall your left thinking about all the other things you could have done with your $200 instead of this stupid helicopter tour. Lame. read more

Made reservations two months in advance to surprise my out of town guests with a high energy LA "adventure". We arrive, and THERE IS NO PILOT TO FLY THE HELICOPTER. Wait an hour for the third string to arrive and the energy has kind of left the building. Never came close to covering the area that was advertised. Outrageously expensive. read more

Bought a groupon deal for a helicopter tour on Monday and as of today Saturday they have not returned my call to schedule a tour. I've been calling atleast twice a day and left msgs and no answer. All I have to say about this D-BAG company is stay away. This "company" changed my flight time 3 times and raised the agreed upon price once. After the 3rd time change, I cancelled the flight but they were kind enough to charge my credit card after I clearly asked them not to. I have left several messages to ask them to credit my card back...still waiting for a call back. If I could give negative stars, I would give -10! After this crappy experience, I would never trust this Micky Mouse operation with the lives of my family. Thankfully I found another terrific pilot that gave us the best tour I could have asked for. I purchased a Groupon as a Christmas present for my boyfriend. He was so excited and we couldn't wait; it was such a deal! Unfortunately, I am a full time student and my schedule is a little hard to work with, but I had a full year to use my Groupon for a tour of LA. I called this weekend because I finally had a day off! My boyfriend and I were so excited. I called twice and no one returned my call. I emailed and finally got a response. The man rudely told me they wouldn't except my Groupon because they stopped selling with them; even though I had already purchased it. I think it is so wildly unprofessional that they wouldn't uphold to my Groupon even though I had a year to redeem it. I was not informed that stopped taking them in June, neither company called or emailer to tell me. I would highly suggest not purchasing any package from this company. read more

Buyer Beware!! This company had all their helicopters repossessed in December 2013!! Demand groupon gives you a refund! Guess what they are now using other helicopters at Van Nuys airport!! The FAA is not checking anything. The owners are crooks! Look up his name like I did. Be careful who you fly with. I was lucky my friend knows an airport fueling guy who told her the story. I recently surprised my wife for her birthday with a 25 minute helicopter tour. She was certainly surprised and couldn't stop talking about it for day's. Avis, the owner, is one down to earth dude. I can totally picture us hanging out at a BBQ drinking beer :) Shawn, the pilot, was absolutely awesome. You're a great pilot Shawn! I highly recommend these guys for your next adventure. read more

My husband and I took a helicopter tour on our honeymoon in Hawaii and we had such a great time that on our anniversary he surprised me with tour tickets with Adventure Helicopter Tours. We had such an amazing time, it couldn't have been more fun and romantic! Our pilot was so considerate and polite, he made the experience so relaxed and fun! He was very professional and knew exactly what he was doing! I can't wait to take my kids so they can experience the excitement and I recommend that everyone try it out. Its a nice alternative instead of the same ordinary date night. read more
