He ended up with a terrible skin infection on his penis, scrotum and rectum. The last night he was there he wasn't changed from 5:30 pm to 8:30 am. He and all of his bedding was completely soaked in urine and bowel was down to his knees! The toilet leaked. The bathroom baseboards were coming off. The area around the sink handles was black and brown with dirt and mold. His room floor was filthy.

Rooms are either single or double room. You should never expect much from these places. You do get what you ask for eventually. Sometimes you get oral care and baths if staff have time. But these places are usually short staffed and services and far and few in between. We spent a week here after my mother in law had a stroke and was eventually transitioned to hospice. Our family had a decent experience. We adored our nurse Charleen and CNA Jackie in particular. They were more compassionate, patient, and detail oriented. We befriended quite a few residents while we were there since my children and I spent hours there daily. That really helped to have the whole community of residents and their family members lean in and help take care of us when the staff couldn't. For the residents that have been in rehab before, they did say that Briarwood is their preference. They do get seen daily by the doctors, PT's, and OT's. And although service is slow they seem to get what they need. There were a few disgruntled residents who would on occasion scream for their pain medicine to be on time, especially in the evenings. Overall I was still pleased enough with our experience. I could tell that a lot of the staff were overworked and many of them were truly trying their best. I will miss both the staff and residents that we became really close with. When you share food, gifts, and stories during a time of great trial, the kindness and power of the human spirit really does leave a mark.

They do try to make the best of a tiny budget. All in all Briarwood is a fine Rehab Facility of which I am a Resident.

"There's GOT to be something in between that offers a range.. something beautiful?? YES! There is! THIS IS IT! Staff at AT go out of there way to make sure my Mom is safe and happy. The activities are fun and designed to help those with memory loss retain cognitive function. The food is nourishing and delicious. We sing the praises of Arbor Terrace to everyone we meet.

They did not care for my father. They pretty much left him in his room to rot. The food is almost an edible as I had to order him DoorDash, at least five times a week, hire outside care to come in for 10 hours a week because he was just not getting any attention. The head nurse Angie blames her staff for all of her inadequacies, and David the director does not listen to criticism or make any sort of changes. The place appeared clean but hallways and certain areas smell like a nursing home. Additionally, I have received several calls from the Phoenix asking for my husband who has dementia. He cannot talk on the phone and both times I explained this and asked them not to call again. Today 8/17/21 I got ANOTHER call, asked her not to call again and hung up. She had the nerve to call back and yell at ME. If they have staff that does this NO WAY would I place my loved one there. I called to speak to the director and could hear the same woman screaming in the background. It will be interesting to see if the director actually calls me back.

My grandmother didn't have that much dementia, but the place where we "placed" her was not nearly as wonderful as this Emeritus location. I think she would have been a great candidate for one of their "wings" - if only she had lived here and not in Rome, maybe we could have had her there. Here's the deal - Emeritus has 11 metro-Atlanta facilities, four that are dementia-specific, so to speak, and over 400 locations nationwide. From meeting with one of the key folks today, and meeting other staff and directors, it is clear that they are committed to the very best in patient care and treatment. Each resident has a nameplate on the door, and a photo/collage type thing next to their door with whatever they feel portrays them best- family pics, notes, etc. Even better, the four "sections" of the facility are decorated like....things that make you happy! My favorite was the "beach" themed room- and the hair salon! In one corner of a wing, they even have an old-fashioned mirror/dressing table and vintage dresses next to it. Wow. Beyond the aesthetics, it was clear that the staff really cares, and that anyone whom I love would be well tended to at this place...I witnessed staffers calling everyone they saw by name, carefully tending to the sofas in the lounge area, checking on people in their rooms or in the common dining area or group activity area. Really, it was - overwhelming. Bob Carr and staff do an incredible job, it seems - if I get totally *out there* one day, for whatever reason, this is the kind of place I would want to be.
