I am so excited that my son told my husband and I about Visiting Angels. My husband had a heart attack out of town. During our time out of town in the hospital my son told me about Visiting Angels. I was able to get in touch with Becky right away and arrange for someone to be there when my husband and I came home. The past 5 weeks have been nothing but AMAZING to have the best caretaker Brenda Yeager to take care of my husband while I was at work. The entire staff at Visiting Angels have been exceptional. This whole situation was difficult at times but Becky and her entire staff made it so much easier for me knowing that they cared about my husband (and me) as much a I do. My mother was bed bound and I needed some extra hands to help with taking care of the house and making sure she had meals cooked for her while I was away. The caregiver was very attentive and so kind. Mrs. Hestley also was available to work with me and my schedule and answer any questions I had. My mother fell during one of her Visiting Angel shopping excursions. Her Angel called for an emergency medical transport to the closest hospital; called me; and stayed with her in the Emergency Room until I could arrive on the scene. She stayed in constant contact with me on the phone during the entire process including allowing the doctors to use her phone to discuss my mother's medical condition with me. She was knowledgeable as to medical emergency procedures and caring and concerned regarding staying in contact with mother's family throughout this experience. Do NOT use Visiting Angels! We only had them for a week and half. First day they didn't show up. They got intouch with the sitter to find out the scheduler double booked her. The finally had someone show up and she was wonderful. On the 4th day they sent someone that wasn't qualified to take care of my mother in law. She needs total care with everything. The sitter had never helped anyone like that before, as she was told just to assist. Needlees to say my mother in law fell in the bathroom. I called the owner and director. It took them about 3 hours for a replacement. Day 10, the main sitter was off so a replacement sitter was supposed to come. But no one showed up. Called the scheduler and was told that the sitter had an emergency. We asked what we were supposed to do? She said and I quote, Let me see if i can find someone. After being on the phone with the director off and one for about an hour they finally had someone on their way and was told she would be there in 20 mins. She got there about an hour later. That sitter didn't help at all. She kept asking how to do everything. She wasn't qualified to handle my mother in law. Found out also the main sitter resigned. I asked who would be there the next day. Was told that they were trying to find someone. Then was told that the unqualified sitter would be there. That was the last straw. I called the director and told them not to bother as I couldn't put my mother in laws life in the hands of someone that didn't know what to do. I discontinue their service. They are very short staffed and are not managed well at all. I felt the owner really didn't care what was going on in his company when I called him with the issues. He would rather have others handle the problems. Until they have qualified people running the business that have heart about the ministry of helping people and not just about the money I would stay away from Visiting Angels in Birmingham. read more
