I have been going to this location for years. However my last experience there I wont be back. My husband has 2 insurances for vision we went to his appointment we presented the lady at the front desk with his 2 insurance cards and she goes I have them. Then he did his visit picked out 2 pairs of glasses and we checked out. She ran it with out the insurance. Then we asked her if she used The insurance and she said no I didn't have it. Same lady that told us at the beginning she had it. Then she ran it with the insurance and it costed 50.00 more with 2 insurances. My husband talked to the manager about the lady not using the insurance and the manager said she would fix it. So we were charged 400 then another 50.00. Then when the manager said she would fix it that something wasnt right 575.00. Tell me how 2 pairs of glasses costs almost 600.00 with 2 sets of insurance...they dont know what they are doing at all thats how. Never in my life have I paid so much for glasses with 2 insurances. Won't email prescription info because they don't have a secure server. Hipa law says they can't email without secure server but apparently they can store medical files without a secure server. Pointless since the medical data is not secure regardless of emailing or not. They should invest in a secure server if they want to deal in medical data. Prices are marked up. Cheaper online. Sale offers aren't able to be combined with insurance coverage. Limited frame options. Did not carry the brand I was looking for. Best to go elsewhere. read more

I didn't have a good impression about VisionWorks 10 years ago when it first opened. My interactions with them this time around only further confirmed my doubts. Distance-wise VisionWorks is the closest vision center in my insurance network. I called for an optometrist appointment. An unapologetic voice told me that that no appointment would be available within 6 weeks! I dismissed it as being the beginning-of-the-year rush. I called again a month later. The rep scoffed at my query and once again indicated no appointment was available within the next month. Wow, I thought that was ridiculous. I wasn't in a hurry but I went ahead and got my prescription from Armesto Eye Associates instead -- within a week! Call me a glutton for punishment, I went back to VisionWorks to choose the frame. I just wanted a basic pair of eye glasses covered by my insurance. What could go wrong now I no longer require their ever-popular optometrist? Well, I wasn't greeted and was outright ignored until I specifically ask for help. There was only one frame I liked so I went ahead and had it ordered. To my dismay, the frame wasn't available anywhere in their distribution center, so I would have to take the sample frame as is :( It was promised to be ready within 2 weeks, but no one called. So I went in to check. Lo and behold, it's already there for pick-up, who knows for how long. I was handed the glasses, and that was the end of it! No fitting, no assistance, no comments, just waiting for me to dismiss myself. They really literally did the bare minimum in terms of service, as well material - floor sample, no shipping costs, and no lens cloth. Yuk! read more

Sent this message to the company a month ago. I received no reply Some of the worse customer service I have experienced. I have used Visionworks for probably the past 15 years...probably more. On February 16th, I picked out my frames, decided on my lens and used one of your senior employees to complete my transaction. This employee has been there since I have been going to the Camp Hill location...a long time. Employee 58547 The glasses arrived on the day I was leaving on an extended work project. After I put on both glasses, I noticed something was wrong. The employee (a different one) said I would get use to them. No, something is wrong...the prescription is wrong. The employee struggled hard to see how she could make it my fault. Long story, short, the employee had transcribed a (-) into a (+). Of course, making the prescription incorrect. The employee that made the error overheard our conversation...but said nothing. Now, they told me I would have to go back to my optician and get a new prescription. WHAT?! You made an error in transcription and getting a new prescription is going to fix that? After 15 minutes of discussion the employee finally said she would re submit the prescription correctly. Seemed reasonable. But I was going a away for a month and would be without them. Excellent customer service would figure a way to correct the problem and get the glasses to me. Not at Visionworks. After my return I went to pick up my glasses. After a month, they had only one pair there for me to pick up. They lost the other pair. This time the employee was very apologetic. I wrote down her name because she was so helpful...but over this time I have misplaced it. That's a shame. She deserved some kudos. She said they would compensate me somehow for my difficulties. Oh right! An other two weeks I go to pick up my new glasses. The employee this time =, a socially awkward, young man handed me my glasses and walked away. No mention of how do they fit, is it correct...or somehow compensating me for my troubles. And there you have it. Joe F PS: the glasses cost me $200 more than I was expecting and you do not have your year warranty any more. I doubt I will use your business any more. You are offer nothing...but I do see a lot more commercials on TV so I guess your putting your resources into marketing and not product improvements. read more

The Carlisle Pike Mechanicsburg location has the worst customer service staff (as of October 24, 2023) that I have had to deal with. The one male is racist (although he is not a an American person, which may sounds ironic). He enjoys and promotes mocking the non-American (mainly Hispanic) and religious customers. During my today's appointment I saw how they laughed and made demeanor jokes about a Jewish couple that entered to request service, they ended up leaving. After that, the non-American guy gave a minor young lady a despicable look and told her in a disrespectful manner "I like your "style"" and gave her a sarcastic smile. The Hispanic teenager (I know she is Hispanic as I talked to her) told him that she was happy with her wardrobe and style. He and 2 other females (front desk customer service) were laughing and participating in the denigrating acts. Once the doctor finished with my exam it was my turn to receive their service to order my glasses and the youngest female employee looked at me and started laughing and joking with the eldest woman and the two male guys about my outfit. I couldn't tolerate it any longer and asked if they had any issues with me or my style. The non-American male employee came and asked me if I needed anything and I told him I was going to report all of them for the discriminatory and disrespectful treatment they are giving to Hispanics and religious customers. He did not apologize and continued making sarcastic comments. I was ready to order my glasses (a branded ones) and the oldest female told me not to buy them and to go to the Dollar Three store and buy a pair there. This is obviously the last time I'll go to that location but I won't remain quiet about those individuals discriminating treatment and will escalate todays actions. They are the reason that store cannot progress and represent a loss for the Visionworks chain. read more

Dr. is white female short heighted short brown hair and a little heavier middle aged woman. Terrible customer service. They asked us to pay $20 in co pay while there is no co pay. Our Insurance confirmed this. There should be negative 10 stars for this place. They are taking our money and giving us attitude as if they are seeing us for free. I am the coordinator of a group home that cares for intellectually disabled individuals. After one of my clients had an appointment there, I am appalled at seeing the invoice from her appointment, she was supposed to be having a diabetic exam, and somehow they managed to talk her into purchasing new glasses, adding some reflective coating that cost 400 , and above all charging her out of pocket 235 dollars. i have been trying to contact them since 8 am this morning to attempt to resolve this issue and have been repeatedly put on hold for long intervals to be hung up on. i will be filing a grievance with my cllients insurance company, i am beyond disgusted read more

Can't get a live person on the phone. They use Amelia to check on orders and schedule appointments and supposedly more. But when you ask for more for other options Amelia can't help. Trying to find out if they took my insurance was not any easy process. Buried way in their website. They have you prefill out forms on line and when you get to the appointment they ask you the exact same info. They typically have good service. We will see what happens at my visit today. read more

I went into Vision works in Mechanicsburg on the Carlisle Pike. I asked for my frames to be tighter because they were falling off my face. The man proceeded to heat the plastic glasses too hot, causing a scratched appearance. I thought it would be fine but it was not. I turned around and went back inside. He said there's nothing I can do they didn't apologize for damaging my glasses or offer to replace the lenses only. They said I have had these glasses for 2 yrs and didn't offer me any assistance replacing the lenses they had damaged. This affects my vision driving and working so I am very upset and mad about my experience and do not recommend going there. An eye doctor with 30 years of experience said that he heated it up too long causing something called glazing. I've tried calling the Mechanicsburg, camp hill, customer service and online. Would give them zero stars if I could. Took in glasses to get adjusted. The technician breaks it. That's not the problem, accidents happen. They say they'll order new ones. I wait 2 weeks to get an update. No one ever contacts me. I go into the store to ask and they give me attitude like it was my fault and I find out that they never ordered new ones. Hate this place. They were honestly great during the exam and the ladies that did the exam were very helpful and personable. Then I ordered my contacts and that's when this place became unreasonable, I waited a month and a half before receiving my contacts only to be told that the reasoning was because J&J was always one of their suppliers that run very late but A MONTH AND A HALF??? I get the same exact contacts from 1-800 contacts in 2 days every time I order from them! Also when you try to call them it always re-routes you to a robot and then a call center in another state that has no clue what's going on and they are not helpful at all!! My Medicare covers $300 every 2 years. I had an eye exam on 02/09/2022 at 11:20am in Mechanicsburgs PA and ordered a pair of glasses with progressive bifocal lens. A few days after I got my glasses, I returned to the store and told the manager that the lens has no progression. He disagreed. A week later, I again returned and told him the same, He disagreed. Basically, I have a pair of reading glasses that cost me $300 out of pocket in addition to my $300 insurance benefit. I can't use my benefit again till 02/09/2024. They advertise that you can return your glasses within 30 days if not satisfied, but they refused. Every day I am reminded that I was cheated out of $300 plus my vision benefit. They don't even deserve one star! read more

The visionworks in Mechanicsburg is terrible. Not only did they lie to us telling us our glasses were ready had us drive 30 miles one way to get them twice but when they finally were ready they were messed up and couldn't take them anyway. Then I scheduled an exam For my kids and they double booked us and waited until all other appointments were taken to cal us and tell us. When it was explained that this day was the only day available for our schedule they didn't care and pretty much said I shouldn't have double booked. Don't waste your time or money on this place!! The Optometrist on staff is amazing (Janet Dardick) but there is no way to call and confirm which doctor you are seeing. This place has extremely poor follow up regarding contact lense fit and ordering a test pair. Stopped by on numerous occasions (because there is no way to talk to a person) and all they say is that they are waiting and will call back. Last week 8/14/21 I took my daughters for their "teleheath" eye exam. Between waiting, these glitches for the computer system, the clerk who uploaded one twins data into the wrong chart. and screw ups from the girl at the register checking us out who simply would not listen to me telling her she was charging us incorrectly (eventually a manager came over and had to credit my card, re-ring is back up - we were there OVER three literally excruciating hours for two simple eye exams. The telehealth eye exams stink - one of my daughters got much more care from her computer doctor than the other. On that day I booked an appointment for myself for today 8/21/21 at 10:20 am and I arrived on time for my appointment. After waiting a little while I asked when I was going to be seen - after spending 3 hours there last week I wasn't wasting another beautiful summer day doing the same thing. I was told they wouldn't even get to me til 11:15 for the first part of the exam. I said whoa why didn't you call me and they said it's a doctors office (yeah OK!!) and some patients take longer. I could possibly understand if it has been 4 o'clock and all day long they've had a little bit of a delay but I was there one hour and 20 minutes after they opened. There's no way you can get an hour behind when you've only been open for an hour hour. Horrible service that has gone downhill ever since we started going there almost 6 years ago. This will be our families last visit - you've lost customers who get glasses, sunglasses, contacts - you name it. I'm happy to go somewhere else who values my time. I will add that since Covid Almost every single doctor I have seen has been on time or close to on time. They do not want you in their office gathering with a bunch of other people. Last week there was probably 15 + people in the store by the time we got done. Zero covid precautions other than masks and wiping down glasses people try on. Will never visit this store again. This is my second time at this Visionworks. I have read the previous reviews and I experienced no such thing. I had made my appointment, was greeted at the door given forms, had my eye exam and picked out frames and discussed deals that were going on. All in all I was out in an hour and fifteen minutes. The place was running like a well oiled machine. The girl quoted me that my glasses would be in by the 11, and it only took a week from my appointment, excellent turn around in my opinion. When I went to pick up my glasses I wasn't greeted by anyone until one girl was done with her customer (thus the 4 star rating) but the girl that greeted me was the one I wanted to work with, she was positive, bubbly and comforting. Horrible customer service. I was running a little late for my appointment due to a traffic accident. I sat on hold for the 30 minutes it took me to get there and I was 10 minutes late. I walked inside and they had four people at the customer service counter that could have picked up the phone. Two out of the four were not even servicing customers at the time. They turned me away because I was late. They did not seem to care about how long I was on hold and the gentleman only said "Sometimes we don't hear the phone". I changed eye doctors. Worst service ever!!! We were 12 minutes late due to a traffic accident, tried to call to let them know, could only get an automated system-arrived and they wouldn't see my husband because his appointment was before mine. They weren't busy by the way, we were the last appointments of the day. THEN after my exam, I met with the salesman. Being in sales myself, and explaining this to the man how to sell to me, he ignored me and gave me some BS quotes and ignored what I was looking for-i was like, nevermind- you blew it. He let me know I really need these glasses and I replied, "That may be true, but I won't be getting them here. " While all this was going on with the salesman- they had no other customers and had plenty of time to tend to my husband. I will never go to another Visionworks. read more

My granddaughter it was at this Visionworks today and was quoted a price of $200 for glasses, and that is with vision insurance and $99 frames. I questioned the person that quoted that for her and she not very pleasantly told me that she would have to pay 40 for the glasses and 35 for her lenses and really couldn't explain what the extra money was that totaled the $200. We ended up taking the prescription to a different vision works, getting the same price frames and the actual total was $90. The vision works in Mechanicsburg never checked her insurance, but apparently made an assumption about what it would cost. read more

After receiving a "Beat the Rush" folder in the mail promising all kinds of rebates and discounts, I thought it might be the time to check out Visionworks. I've been happy with the optical department at Sam's Club...but, let's try Visionworks. I called several times and no one ever answered...just a recording insisting I go to their web site. An appointment was booked on the web site. I showed up armed with my prescription from my regular eye doctor. A young man steered me to his work station, glanced at my prescription and immediately launched into a rapidly-spoken spiel about the many different variation on lenses, starting at a huge sum. Then he asked if I had insurance. He then said, "Oh, then it will be much higher." First of all, why charge my insurance company more? In a way, it's the same as charging ME more. I used to love coming to this location but they have really gone down hill. It has taken me over 3 months and still waiting to get my contacts. Between staff changing appointments and not notifying you, giving you the wrong date/time of your appointment and then waiting over 1 month to receive a call from the staff stating my trail pair is in, this has been a nightmare. And don't even think about calling. No one answers their phone and if you get a customer service agent on the line it is from another state and they are unable to help. Absolutely awful. WILL NOT RELEASE MEDICAL RECORDS. THEY VIOLATE HIPPA AND DON'T CARE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. The first appointment I had was in 2019 and that appointment itself was bad. Customer service was unfriendly and rude, the wait time was well-beyond acceptable, the prescription I received was wrong. Fast forward to today, 2/9/2021. I have a new eye dr. I called to get my medical records and the guy (who apparently is the manager?) was rude, sassy, and absolutely flabbergasting over the phone. He would not release my medical records because they contained an expired prescription (the one from 2019). I AM NOT TRYING TO USE THIS PRESCRIPTION, ALL I WANTED IS FOR THE MEDICAL RECORDS RELEASED SO I CAN BRING THEM TO MY NEW DR. Nope, wouldn't do it. And why I asked what my old prescription even was, he says "I can't tell it to you." I asked why. He said "because it's expired." Ok..... well that in and of itself doesn't seem right. BUT THEY STILL WILL NOT RELEASE THE RECORDS. When I called back about 1/2 hr later, a woman answered the phone. Sweet as can be. She looked me up, said that my records contained an expired prescription but that she could fax my records or mail my records. I asked her to mail them to me. In the background I heard the guy's voice and she immediately put me on hold, just to come back saying "I'm sorry, I was wrong, I'm being told that I can't send them out since your prescription is expired." I voiced my opinions about how freaking ridiculous that is that I, THE PATIENT, cannot get access to my old medical records from 2019 becuase they contain an expired prescription, which, by the way, I COULDN'T EVEN USE EVEN IF I WANTED TO?? What does it freaking matter that it's expired? IT'S EXPIRED. I have reported a HIPPA violation under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights.
