I took classes at Dance Addicts for over three years, and I found it one of the best, warmest, and…read morefun places that I have ever danced at. Over this time period, I sampled most of the offerings, Latin, Hip Hop, West Coast Swing, Salsa - however, for the most part, I focused on Argentine Tango, which Dance Addict's Geraldine Goyer (owner) teaches with passion that I found catching. I was quickly pulled into the world of dance!
The studio is very welcoming, both in atmosphere and what they offer. Many types and levels of dance classes are always repeated every two months (which is great, because you can try many things rather than just focusing on one dance, especially if you are not sure what dance will float your boat!). The studio itself though is the most welcoming part (apart from friendly people up front who are used to
'dance-oblivious' people like I used to be), with a nice viewing room, upstairs for also looking in on classes, and a very large ballroom, with a nice sprung floor (easy on the knees). I really grew to like the atmosphere of the place, always bright, warm, and open.
Because Geraldine has such passion for it which comes across in her classes, and the dance itself is wonderfully passionate, I decided to stick with Argentine Tango, which I took in all their levels. Even better, the regular practices and parties are a great way to start dancing a bit more socially. I now am able to go regularly to any dance in Vancouver and "hold my own" so to speak while looking (somewhat) graceful.
If I sound overenthusiastic, it is because it is hard to find a place where one can combine social, physical, and artistic activities all in one wonderful activity, dance, and Dance Addicts makes that as welcoming as possible!
PS - I am a young man (20s), but so far I think the youngest person that I saw at Dance Addicts was 3 and the oldest 78. Really for everyone.
