I've been involved with Allegro Performing Arts center for about a year and a half, attending adult…read moreballet classes as well as a few other dance classes (tap and contemporary). I've also been involved in a few of their productions. The location is easy-to-find with ample parking right in front of the building. The inside is clean, well-maintained, and has 2 studios spaces (one large, one medium-sized) plus a couple lounge areas, one of which is used for music lessons and as a waiting area for clients and parents. The large studio has plenty of room to accommodate many dancers, adequate vertical space for leaps and jumps, very sturdy barres, and a comfortable, marley-covered floor. Though I have experience in music and am rhythmically capable, I was completely new to ballet when I started here. Heather's experience in the ballet world and in teaching the methods become apparent right away. She provides instructions that are very clear and offers cues that help to easily address form issues. Between exercises, she'll share the history of the movements and techniques, the origin of the words and phrasings, and the anatomy/kinesiology and physics behind the movements. This makes the class very interesting to me. She's also able to accommodate everyone in the class regardless of ability level, providing individual instruction equally among the dancers. Heather's great at assigning challenging routines that are just at the top of my abilities so that I'm pushed towards improvement. Ballet is physically demanding no doubt, but a lot of the difficulty for me comes from the mental and memory aspects of learning a routine. It is hard work, and I find it very rewarding. During my time with the studio, I've been given the opportunity to perform in a couple of their productions. It's great to be able to put all that hard work into a final product that my family and friends can enjoy! It's also wonderful to be able to do this alongside her other students and company members as a team. I've witnessed firsthand that this studio forges hard-working young individuals who learn to take criticism as opportunity for improvement, work hard for results, and take pride in their accomplishments.

I think Steps Dance Center works hard to offer professional, top notch training while still working to create a caring environment that is student focused. YIKES. Multiple times throughout the season the owner talked negatively about families that have left the studio. This is a pretty small world we live in. I know the side of the story they won't tell with some of those families. That's when it clicked that they will stop at nothing to make people who don't put up with their crap look like the crazy/unstable one. The last straw was them blaming my daughter for something someone else did... the week before nationals. It was horrible. Her trust was completely broken with one of her teammates because of it and no one cared how much they hurt her... The pictures of my daughter on stage from nationals, she looked SO SAD. It was heartbreaking. That being said, even though I detest the people that run this place. My daughter is still super kind and supportive of every single kid she danced with here, even the one who lied and got her in trouble. The problem is the people who run it and the group of moms that act like spies and gossip about children. It's weird. Do not recommend this place. There are way better options in the area.

We worked with Meg on learning the first dance for our wedding, and the end result was a dance so…read morespectacular that our guests are still raving about it. We have been asked multiple times how we learned such a complex showstopper dance. I had never really done any sort of dancing before, and we had selected a waltz. Instantly, we were impressed at how effective of a teacher Meg was, making complex movements seem easy. More importantly, she put me at complete ease. Our weekly dance practices ended up being the highlight of our week. She broke down everything into basics and helped create and teach the choreography in chunks. As the weeks progressed, we decided to add more length to the song since we were enjoying it so much. She worked on creating the mix and crafted the additional choreography as well. We then decided to practice with our actual wedding clothes on as well, and we learned limitations two weeks before the wedding date. Meg helped us find professional dance shoes and adapted the choreography to work around those limitations, completely making the song feel comfortable even in the limited movement of the clothing. Throughout these lessons, Meg was extremely flexible in scheduling and often going out of the way to work around our travel. She even helped us book a time slot when the entire studio was empty so that we could practice our dance using the whole space in private. Her and the rest of the instructors were warm, welcoming, and caring. We honestly had such a great time that we are thinking about going back to learn other dances as well.
