They are from a few years earlier and I am almost always willing to give a business a shot as some yelpers are a little dramatic in their reviews. To start- I called earlier in the day to inquire about ballet flats for my daughter to see if they even had what I needed. This is her first dance experience and I wanted to make sure she had proper shoes to go along with. The woman on the phone was very nice and very informative. She also gave me a couple pricing options to fit either budget I might have a had and that was appreciated as not everyone has the same budget for these things. On the other hand I was very much open to spending more if necessary on this trip because I know that having the proper shoes is beyond necessary in any sport. When we arrived we were greeted by both employees working and they even joked with us about the "great weather" we were having (it was a downpour). I told the woman what we were there for and she personally helped my daughter put on her shoes and explained which shoe would be best for her foot. We spent around $20 for her ballet flats and my daughter just loved them. I am confused by others that are upset about their pricing as this is a boutique/specialty store and expecting to find the same pricing as Walmart or online. What you will find is a plethora of quality products that are made to last as well as being a brick-and-mortar location that is able to personally help you find what you are looking for and you have it in your hand that day. They have knowledge to share about their products and what is best for a dancer. We will come back in the future to get a few more leotards for my daughter. This is a great store- you get what you pay for.

Especially if you don't want to invest in all brand new gear. They carry brand name items with a huge supply of previously owned shoes, leotards and dance outfits. They also sell brand new tights. My daughter just started a class at our local park district that incorporates jazz, ballet and tap this week. The instructor 'suggested' getting shoes, tights and outfits for all 3 types of dance. I knew I didn't want to buy brand new things not knowing which dance style my daughter would want to pursue after this class is over. So I searched for a dance store that sold previously worn/used dance gear. I am so glad I found this place! I emailed the store this week in one evening, not really expecting a reply. I made myself a note to call the next day. When I opened my email the next morning, I had a reply from the owner! They didn't have any store hours until 2 days later on Thursday but offered to come in that evening for us by appointment. Both owners were there (there is a dance studio upstairs). They had my daughter's sizes pulled out so we could just sit and try on right away. They were so helpful in guiding us on the right fit and making suggestions. The store is decorated very cute and has a 'fancy dressing room' (as my daughter put it). My daughter is already talking about going back to pick out her next jazz outfit!!!

I don't necessarily need character shoes, but I do want to get some sort of cute shoe that I can teach in and are a little more robust than my ballet shoes. I used to have various lyrical jazz shoes way back in the day (1996 haha), so after looking to see what kind of shoes they still make, I found some that Allegro carries. Better yet, the two shoes I wanted to try they had on clearance (I guess they may be discontinuing them?) for a bargain on their website. They only had shoes in what I thought would be way too small, but I figured I'd give it a try. I went yesterday (almost exactly 2 years to the day since the last time I was here), and it was a great experience yet again. The sales associate was super nice and brought out both shoes, and surprisingly they were only about a half size too small. But, for $10 for the cheaper pair, I figured it's good enough and maybe they'll stretch a little as I wear them. I can make any shoe fit if I'm motivated enough. I also impulse purchased the cute hoodie that I mentioned in my review back from September 2023 (see photo from that review). I saw that they still have it and so I couldn't pass it up this time. They were quite busy when I was there (about 3pm on a Thursday), so it's great to see them thriving.

We trusted the professional fitting, only to find out at home that the shoes didn't fit at all. When the mistake was brought to their attention, the store refused to exchange or refund because one shoe had been sewn--even though the sizing error was theirs. Offering a $15 credit instead was insulting. Poor service and zero accountability. Do not recommend.

We received a pair of dance shoes from here as a gift but they were too small. I went to exchange and the owner wouldn't do it. We didn't have a receipt (as they were a gift) so we were out of luck, even though the exchange would have been simply for size. So, I was pigeonholed into buying another pair. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GIVE A DIME TO THESE PEOPLE. The second pair was a different brand pushed by the owner, unfortunately the sizing didn't translate across the brands. I bring them home to my daughter who can't fit them. One hour later I try to return them, only they won't take the return. For crying out loud, these have never been worn and they don't fit. I bought based on their suggestion which is what caused this issue in the first place, they were rude to me when I checked out and now they refuse to give me my money back. I don't want to exchange these shoes here, I don't want to ever step foot in here again. If I was a business owner I would be a lot more concerned with my reputation. I will be sure to let everyone I know they are better off buying their dance gear anywhere else.

Up until now I"ve also been buying my daughter's ballet shoes online, but since I just signed her up for a *real* dance studio* I thought maybe I should make sure the ballet shoes fit. And that's how we found ourselves at Body & Sole. My little one was fitted for ballet shoes and immediately found her way to their bar where she demonstrated some very awkward looking dance poses that made me think this ballet thing may be short lived. I wasn't planning to buy any leotards here, but couldn't resist buying her yet another sparkly pink ballet dress. It was more expensive than I've found online yet less expensive than what I've seen in actual dance studios in the past. My daughter was also quite excited about the ballet outfits they sell for american girl dolls here. The two women who helped me were very helpful and even had a binder of requested attire from all the dance studios in the area. Fortunately, 3 1/2 year olds can wear whatever they want so the sparkly pink ballet dress will get lots of use. The ballet shoes themselves have already been put to use during a week long ballet camp at Baby Take a Bow.** My little ballerina loved shopping there so much that now when we pass the store she screams "there's my favorite ballet store!" Lucky for her we plan on going back in a few weeks to buy her first pair of tap shoes. * http://www.yelp.com/biz/danced-inc-northbrook?osq=dancEd ** http://www.yelp.com/biz/baby-take-a-bow-winnetka

You can definitely find some great stuff here, though. The employees are friendly and helpful, but they do tend to follow you around the store, so if you're thinking of stuffing that $35 t-shirt in your waistband, good luck. While I appreciate their efforts to deter shoplifters, it makes for an awkward shopping experience for the honest folk.
