Their beer selection is lacking. They have 7 to 8 refrigerators of beer with all but 1 being Coors/Bud/Miller. I was able to find a favorite (Troegenator Doublebock), but that was THE only beer they had that I desired. Great prices. Lots of parking. Quick service.

I know what you are thinking, no I do not truly drink this much however its like when one thing runs out everything runs out at the same time. Which brings be back to yet another ABC location, reserve your judgement please and thank you. The theme is pretty much the same, the store is easy to navigate and you are close to guaranteed to find whatever you are in the mood for. All the favorites or frequently bought liquors are locked up so you have to ask for it. Staff is friendly and ready to assist if need be. Store is always clean and there is plenty of parking.

I live there as a kid but then had moved down with my family to the Northern Virginia/DC area. I took this most recent trip to see a friend at a birthday, a major birthday at that. Much like the trip itself, this has convinced me that where I am now is home. There is no place like Boston. So why do I bring this all up? Well, for anybody local reading this it is a little bit of a culture shock to have a state ABC center where you can buy hard liquor and spirits. Here where I live we have a package stores that we could just simply go and buy them that are independently owned and operated, not controlled by the state itself. No for anybody from north of Virginia going down there, the state ABC store is kind of unique experience. You walk in you see all the hard liquors categorized by liquor type rows upon rows of it. They do except out-of-state ideas if anyone is concerned. I found the staff to be friendly, I asked about one specific type of whiskey which is hard to find. They did not have in stock. however, I need to buy a nice bottle of wine which I plan to use to celebrate with family this upcoming Thanksgiving. I can highly recommend this location, and I imagine the other locations are the same standards.

That being said, this one always has French pastis in stock & on the shelf; Pastis is similar to Italian Sambuca or Greek Ouzo but not quite the same, lol. Sambuca is made from elderberries, Ouzo is made from distilled grapes & aniseed, & Pastis is made from anise, star anise & fennel. The store only has Pernod, which we do like, but you can special order Ricard, which is mine & my French hubs preference; they are from the same company & are both anise-flavored spirits that have their roots in absinthe, but they taste different enough from each other. Pernod is the closet to Absinthe & the company, Pernod-Ricard does, in fact, make real absinthe as well. Look up the history, it's actually an interesting story of how Pastis came about. But I digress, lol. Pastis is an anise-flavored apéritif, or apéro as the French call it, & it is a digestif (aides in digestions). It is typically drank before a meal & served over a couple ice cubes & diluted with water so that it becomes beautifully cloudy & almost a golden, iridescent yellow. Pernod is made from distillates of star anisé (on of my fave spices), fennel, & 14 other botanicals such as coriander, mint, chamomile, & Veronica to name a few. Pernod has a low licorice content which sets it apart from Ricard, which has a more pronounced licorice flavor I must say the staff here is super friendly & the female manager is the best; she always has a big smile on her face. FYI ~ if you want liquor in VA you must purchase it from the ABC store aka Alcohol & Beverage Control Authority.

This location is conveniently located beside Safeway, so there no way you can forget your chaser unless its something Safeway does not carry. The location is always clean and easy to navigate. The staff is helpful as well. Typical of a VA liquor store, the usual liquor suspects are locked up so you have to ask for those as needed. Upon my visit here on a Saturday evening, they where doing a tasting of some sorts in the side back room that I caught a glimpse of as I was walking back to my vehicle. I wish I would have caught it while I was actually in the store, but it was one of those things that if you didn't know it was going on, you surely would have missed it. So clearly, I will keep my eyes wide open next time! Lastly, if you are looking for locally made and crafted spirits and wines they do have some on display at the front of the store, nice variety too! I need them to create a rewards program for the frequent shoppers though, lol. #suggestionsforafriend
