Not ideal, but it definitely added to the lively, community vibe. Nicole went bold with the Ghost of the Mariner Imperial Stout -- rich, dark, and layered with deep roasted notes. Perfect for stout lovers who want something robust and cozy on a rainy day. I kept it bright with the Fruit Punch Fruited Sour -- juicy, tangy, and super refreshing. A fun contrast to the gray skies outside and very much my vibe. We sampled Ironmaster Hazy IPA and Sailing Cross The Devil's Sea Hazy IPA to decide which one deserved a 6-pack for the hubby. Both were smooth, juicy, and low bitterness -- classic hazy energy -- but one edged out the other in overall balance and drinkability. Overall: great variety, solid pours, and a buzzing atmosphere -- just be prepared for limited seating during peak times.

Wegman's also has excellent meat and seafood sections. The bakery is impressive. And one thing they have improved since we first shopped here five years ago is that they have toned down the blasting music that used to make us want to get fast out of Wegman's. The hot foods section used to be pretty good, but now it has shriveled down to next to nothing, The take-home pre-prepared meals, while very good in quality, are exorbitant. Plan on spending $16-$18 for a simple meal, which is as much as you would pay in a restaurant for the same stuff. While they have an abundance of self-check stations, Wegman's doesn't let you get cash back, like you can at Safeway. The self-check stations can be persnickety. Today, I encountered one machine claiming I had put an unchecked item in the bagging item before I had even started scanning my stuff. Yikes! But what I really don't like is how Wegman's does bagging. The Virginia legislature in 2022 passed a law allowing grocery stores to collect from customers 5¢ for each plastic bag used. Wegman's has completely done away with plastic bags, yet Wegman's but takes advantage of that law to charge 5¢ for each paper bag. The icing on the cake is their paper sacks do not even have handles.

The brewery has a huge open layout with multiple levels, plenty of seating, a full kitchen, arcade games, merchandise, and lots of room to spread out. There was even a private event taking place during our visit, but the space is so large that it never affected the experience. Of course, the main reason we came was the beer. Aslin has built a strong reputation for a reason. The IPA I ordered was excellent--fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I was hoping for from a brewery known for hop-forward beers. We also decided to grab some food and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The pepperoni and hot honey pizza was outstanding, with a crispy crust and just the right amount of sweetness from the honey. The cheese curds were another winner and paired perfectly with the beer. The staff was friendly, service was quick, and everything felt well organized despite a steady crowd. I also appreciated the large selection of beer to-go, glassware, hats, shirts, and other brewery swag available for purchase. One thing to note: they are completely cashless, so bring a credit or debit card. Between the excellent beer, surprisingly good food, fun atmosphere, and spacious layout, Aslin ended up being one of our favorite brewery stops in Alexandria. There's only a few tables, meaning you may be in for a wait if you go during the colder months. And I recently had the chocolate mousse and didn't care for it. It was much more akin to pudding, and there wasn't a deep enough chocolate flavor to contrast with the whipped cream. There's no better place I've found in Occoquan to eat, drink, and be merry.
