    Eco island tours
    Sayeeda A.

Excellent tour, the tour guides were friendly and respectful. My husband and I did the mangrove kayak with snorkeling adventure. We went to a cool plants and animal sanctuary by the reef, which is otherwise inaccessible to tourists. We met lots of cute hermit crabs in the sanctuary and one of the most deadliest trees on earth! Exertion level - moderate

Had such a great experience!! Staff was so sweet and understanding when we ran into some traffic (it's a relatively small island with a lot of two-lane roads), our tour guide Kevin was knowledgeable, funny and friendly and it was such a fun experience!! Quick warning though, try and book with them with something other than GetYourGuide - for some reason the app got the times wrong for every activity we booked. Great experience in itself though and we loved our kayaking experience!!

We rented a stand up paddle board and kayak. We had a great time on our own and staff were friendly. Great option for renting, they had tours as well but we did not do one. The are you float though is pretty shallow. Love that they have us each a free bottle of water.

Absolutely wonderful experience The staff was so professional and helpful and understanding very generous. I definitely enjoyed my experience it was the highlight of my vacation we did the three hours with kayaking and hiking and snorkeling I would definitely go again and definitely recommend then afterwards we had two painkiller drinks that were absolutely fabulous and after having those great drinks we decided that that was the drink that we were going to drink the entire vacation. The guys were very informative and made the experience worthwhile and you definitely get a bang for your buck. I would totally recommend and I would come back again if I visit the island

Swish, our tour guide was so professional, nice and patient with us newbies! We even had some honeymooners on our tour that was super nice and towed us along with them. Although the young lady at the front desk was about to let us go out on a self guided tour without any question was so not cool, but some of the employees over heard us saying we had no kayaking experience and them along with God jumped in to save the day lol. We had a blast though. Please check them out when you're in St. Thomas and make sure you ask for "Swish" to be your tour guide! Happy snorkeling and kayaking!

We booked the Kayak, Hike and Snorkel excursion through our NCL cruise. I would absolutely do it all over again! We were picked up by Mel Brooks, not the celeb Mel Brooks, at port to start bring us to the excursion location. He kept us entertained for the ride before arriving at VI EcoTours. From there Brett & Katelyn were amazing guides for the day. You go through a short intro with safety and route we would take. We started off in the kayaks for 2. It's a great paddle and pretty easy. Brett made a few stops along the way with interesting facts about the area we were seeing. Once you beach your kayak, there is a short 'hike'. It's not really even a hike so there isn't any need for hiking boots. Sandals or water shoes will be just fine. It's a short jaunt to a scenic part of the island that is perfect for photo ops. Katelyn brings along the professional camera for photos you can purchase after the fact. Once you are done with the round trip hike, it's time to snorkel! The water is warm, clear and tropical. They give you plenty of time to explore the waters before the kayak ride back. Brett & Katelyn also bring plenty of water for everyone. Don't worry about bringing extra bottles for your group. The tour is a great combination of activities. I would highly recommend this team for a memorable day!

The guides were super helpful! That's Edward!

We did the 1.5 hour sunset kayaking tour in the mangrove lagoon. It was really nice to have taxi transportation to and from the location. We were given the option of tandem or single kayak and I got brave and did the single. That's where I went wrong. I couldn't keep up with everyone! Thankfully the second guide, Edward, hung back with my slow self and didn't make me feel bad at all. Close to the end he hooked me to his kayak. I still had a great time and great workout. We were provided with water bottles at no cost and offered bug spray. We also got some chocolate when we got to the the island and got out to rest and check out the crabs. You can purchase a locker rental ($5) or if you have a vehicle can give your keys to the front desk to hold onto. There was a shop with other essentials and souvenirs for sale as well. D, our main tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and wildlife. We saw a bunch of birds, a jellyfish that he let us hold, and other wildlife. We went pretty far and they didn't hold it to the specified time, which was nice. They took their time with us and it was really enjoyable. You can tip the guides in cash or Venmo/PayPal. I would definitely do it again (tandem next time though!). Thanks for everything guys!

Enjoyable, affordable tour. The guide takes us for a nice tour on the water with amazing views. He was also knowledgeable about good areas to spot specific fish and vegetation during the snorkeling. Round trip transportation to and from the site is provided at no cost. All equipment is provided at no cost. Great sanitary practices.

I recently enjoyed two different tours with VI Eco and WOW! Both tours were absolutely amazing, I can't thank the team enough for making my trip so wonderful. My first tour came on my 2nd day of vacation, a Kayak+Eco-Hike+Snorkel trip was on the menu! I ventured over to a spot almost hidden in the brush and met the amazing team of Vi Eco Tours. Again, I signed up for a group tour so I could enjoy the fun of socializing while adventuring and not be floating up the river. Another great choice as I was paired with another fit woman a few years older than I, with the energy I needed to get through the 5 mile+ roundtrip kayak excursion to and from the specially protected island that we visited. Once we docked our kayaks on shore, we set off onto a 20 minute or so eco-hike around the secluded islands which was SO much fun! We saw Hermit Crabs, poisonous trees, and so much more! After a fun little hike, we got on our snorkeling gear and took a dip! This was my first official snorkeling trip in the ocean and it was something! I won't lie, it truly took me some time to get used to the salt water periodically getting through my mask/mouthpiece as a beginner, but it was so amazing to see what I saw! Among the Stingrays, fish and other living creatures that we saw, we also got to see a boat that was still embedded into the ocean floor from Hurricane Irma! This activity was definitely a treat. For my last adventure, Snorkeling with Sea Turtles, I stuck with VI Eco Tours and was NOT disappointed. This package included my snorkeling trip AND all-day at the private Honeymoon Beach which included kayaks, beach chair rentals and a Café/Bar steps away in the sand. I truly wish I could do this activity all over again! Before I sat down to enjoy Honeymoon Beach, I prepped for my snorkeling trip with my amazing guide Mark, as it seemed that I was the ONLY guest going! (Can you say private tour?!) We hopped back on the boat driven by the awesome Captain, and headed over to the private island where we were to be snorkeling. Here on this private beach which only had about 8 guests relaxing when we arrived, my instructor and I slipped on our fins and our masks and set out for adventure. I had never swum with fins and honestly, they made me a little anxious to start. Well, it all made me anxious lol. Although I love taking a risk, please always understand that I get scared too. I just choose not to alarm others with my fear, or even discuss it out loud; I just tackle it. Although I'm a great swimmer, I feared drowning, my fins being too heavy, being unable to see underwater for whatever reason, any fears you can think of - I had them. My instructor was absolutely amazing and eased me through the snorkeling better than I even thought possible. He even grabbed my action camera and got a shot or two that I couldn't initially get (It's so much harder to push yourself to the bottom of the ocean floor than you can imagine!) I encountered about 4 sea turtles, plenty of fish, and so much more in the beautiful, cooling water along the VI National Park shore. This tour was by far, my favorite part of my vacation! I can't recommend VI Eco Tours enough!!! The expertise and patience shown by the Tour Guides, the beautiful destinations and the amazing prices can't be beat! :)

We had a great time snorkeling and kayaking by the mangrove Lagoon at the southside of Saint Thomas. Snorkeling doesn't get old if you snorkel like this excursion does. This trip in particular was great in that we were told a story of origination of St. Thomas by our fantastic guide, J.B., who also told us stories about manroves and the Mangrove Lagoon. In the middle of the excursion we took about an hour to snorkel during which we saw many different types of fish, lobsters, stingrays, and octopus.

My 19 year old daughter and godchildren around the same age had a great time. They choose the kayak, hiking, snorkeling package with lunch. They added on the photo package which included 100 pictures including underwater shots for $30. They continued to talk about the experience for hours after it was over and they loved the guide Kaley. I would highly recommend this excursion company

The Lind Point Trail was just okay for me (well, sort of...). Yet...for anyone visiting St. John…read moreand Virgin Islands National Park, I at least highly recommend trekking up to the overlook. Beyond that....I found the trail to be mediocre. So....in all, I'd give 4 stars for the walk up to the overlook, and 3 stars the rest of the way. I had my rental car with me for exploring this island and the park. And...the start of the hike is located right behind the Virgin Islands Park Visitor's Center. Parking is pretty difficult overall while I ventured around. But, for this Lind Point Trail, there were literally 4 parking spaces available at the Visitor's Center where you can leave your car for a 1 hour time limit. I arrived early in the morning about 9am, and was fortunate enough to grab one of those spots. After venturing inside the Visitor's Center....I then hiked up the trail. Making my way to the overlook, it was simple. Yeah granted it's uphill, but the distance towards it was 1/3 of a mile. The Lind Point Overlook was great. It's a pleasant panoramic vista of all the town and island of Cruz Bay, St. John. I truly appreciated the views. Though....for me being a perfectionist, when I visited in morning during both days that I explored here, one morning the clouds were out in full force that tainted the clear blue waters of the bay, and the other morning I came here again and the sun faced right into my eyes in my direction while I peered out onto the waters. The surroundings were blinded by the light. Grrrr....so I never got the ideal photographs I was anticipating of beautiful Cruz Bay. I'd recommend to those out there who hike this trail....come on by in the afternoons! Yes...and hopefully when there's no clouds. Still, the views here were worth it and are the absolute highlight to this Lind Point Trail. Now...I did venture further along exploring the hike. There are 2 sections of the trail you can traverse. The Upper and Lower Trails. Yet....both lead exactly to the same spots around the island. So....there's really no difference either or which path you choose. I found out....might as well take the other Lower Lind Point Trail as it was shorter to gain access to the beaches. So....upon continuing past the overlook, I had researched ahead of time that Salomon and Honeymoon Beaches contained white sands and were quite picturesque. I was intrigued to find out if that was true. Yet though....upon arriving at both of these beaches, I was disappointed. One thing...from the overlook, it was maybe another third or half mile more to get to Salomon and Honeymoon Beaches. Not much more of a scamper. Both Salomon and Honeymoon Beaches were virtually identical. They were both real small, secluded and quiet. I was the only person on both beaches during my time there. And...although it may have been cloudy, I couldn't tell if there were white sands or not. Also, the waters certainly were not turquoise blue either. I honestly felt like visiting those two beaches were a waste of time. And now I understand why I was the only person among them. Because....they don't nearly hold a candle to the more famous and iconic Virgin Island beaches like Hawksnest, Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay. These recognizable areas absolutely had the magnificent and colorful waters. But, not Salomon or Honeymoon. They can be skipped. Also, this Lind Point Trail lead to Caneel Bay Beach, but since I was trekking all the way in the same area/general direction and I was letdown to begin with.....I actually skipped checking out Caneel Bay. Otherwise, there was really not much else to see on Lind Point Trail. Yeah...the trek around lead me through forest and lush tropical vegetation, but it wasn't anymore special whatsoever. Finally, my advice to tourists and travelers....at least make it to Lind Point Overlook and you'll then be okay to leave and continue on exploring the rest of St. John and Virgin Islands National Park. For me, from here I started my travels along North Shore Drive...(the main attraction road to get around)....where I ultimately continued along on my journey. If anyone cares to know, the only other short hike I'd recommend on the island is Peace Hill. Absolutely do this...another simple little saunter up a hill leading to wonderful scenery of the Trunk Bay waters.

A short walk from the ferry is the USVI National Park visitor center where you can find maps (and people) that point you to the beginning of the trail. Instead of taking a taxi for $6 per person, per way, I highly recommend hiking to several of the beaches instead! Solomon beach was the nearest beach and was about a 30 minute walk. Honeymoon beach is a bit further. You can wear flip flops since the terrain isn't awful, but I would recommend sneakers or sturdy sandals. How often do you get to hike to beautiful beaches, especially on vacation? Just do it. You won't regret it.

That's a whole different animal. This is where I first stumbled back when I was younger, fresh off a cruise ship that still somehow catered to humans with actual careers and social skills. We're talking a mix of doctors, nurses, librarians, accountants basically a bunch of people who could've handled a cocktail conversation without spilling it on the floor. Somehow, we all crammed into a cab together like a weird, classy, floating circus and headed into paradise. From the first step onto the sand, it was like sneaking into a secret club. Quiet, but not dead alive in that off-the-beaten-path, slightly dangerous way that makes your heart race. And just to make sure I was awake, an iguana ran across my path like it had a personal vendetta against my shoes. Almost had a heart attack, but then I laughed because that's the thing about Sapphire: it keeps you on your toes. It doesn't apologize for being beautiful. It doesn't care if you're clumsy. You just show up, and it rewards you. The people you meet here are the kind of humans that make you feel like life is actually interesting. A local guy struck up a conversation, telling stories I'm pretty sure he made up, but I didn't care he had charm, he had laughter, he had a way of making the sun shine brighter. You can sip a drink, let the waves tickle your toes, and feel like you're part of some romantic, slightly naughty adventure. This is not a beach where you're polite and reserved. No, this is where you can be foolish, wild, flirt with danger a little, maybe even flirt with the cute stranger who's laughing too loud nearby. I've been back to St. Thomas a handful of times since that first visit. I've done tours, cruised other islands, seen a million beaches but none hit like Sapphire. It's my private playground, where you can act like a bad boy, a romantic, a reckless genius, all while the ocean hums in approval. And the best part? You don't have to shout to be noticed. You just exist there, and somehow that's enough. So here's the takeaway: take a cab with strangers, meet a few locals, sip something dangerously strong, and let the beach do the rest. You'll leave with sand in your shoes, a tan line on your soul, and a story that sounds like it belongs in a movie. Sapphire Beach isn't just a beach. It's adventure, romance, comedy, and a little bit of crime all rolled into one glorious, sun-drenched package. It's my kind of bad, my kind of fun, and if you listen closely, you might just hear it whispering your name too.

My husband and I did an excursion from the Norwegian Escape cruise ship to Abi Beach (via pirate…read moreship!). My rating isn't for the excursion itself (the tour operators were hilarious and made the visit memorable) but for the beach. The waters had quite a bit of seaweed floating about, and the bed of the water was covered in rocks at many points. There were also a few specific areas that were known to have sea urchins, so you really had to watch where you step. On the beach part, we found there to be a ton of rocks/shells in the sand which made walking painful and difficult. The little cabana at the top of the beach had a friendly bartender and prices weren't nearly as awful as I thought they'd be ($3/$4 beers, $6 mixed drinks). Overall, an okay beach but definitely not one of the best I've been to and I wouldn't pay as much as I did to return.

Boogie boards were sold out, which was weird because I only saw three or four boogie boards in the water and the beach is not that big. And after seeing the rocks I think boogie boards would be a bad idea. There was a lot of shade which was great.

I would not recommend Virgin Ecotours. I booked an evening kayaking excursion, a few hours before…read morethe excursion. I mapped the location from the resort where I was staying, to the meet up location. I got a taxi to take us & we left with ample extra time to get to the location. Apparently there was an accident and our driver indicated that he was going to turn around and go another way, which would get us there right on the dot. However, route 2 was not panning out, as now other traffic also used that route. I emailed the company multiple times requesting if it was possible to move to next day. ZERO response. I texted the company phone number, requesting the same. ZERO response. I called before texting, no answer. I did this from the date of our reservation until into the afternoon the next day. Very, very disappointed, as their booking calendar showed availability for the following day, but no one would respond. So not only did we miss out on something fun, but we are out $250. Would not recommend whatsoever given the complete lack of communication. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Not only did we take the two person kayaks out for a 3 mile spin, but we learned about the importance of the mangroves, island history, Caribbean Hermit Crab (aka Soldier Crab) and the highly toxic Manchineel Tree (the deadliest tree on earth). Wait, there's more! We also did some snorkeling where some in our group caught a glimpse of a sting ray and a lone barracuda. All in all, a great experience and I highly recommend this place for an unforgettable Ecotour. Thanks!
