*** Private Charter Review *** Bad Kitty offers group tours on a larger catamaran and some other rentals , but we just did a private charter. AND, if you are in a group of like 6 or more, it's so worth it - you are on your own schedule and un-rushed. We did a full day + an additional hour in the BVI. HIGHLY Recommend the additional hour if you are going to do the Bathes - it's an hour to get out there! But it was worth it - a really fun hike down and just beautiful water - if you aren't trying to do too much in the day you could definitely negotiate spending more time exploring here. Captain Greg was great (we were an older group so we probably were a little boring ) but he told us about the various locations, made recommendations and found us some secluded snorkeling spots after lunch. It was THE BEST DAY in the Virgin Islands, just island hopping around and being on the open water. Very friendly, very knowledgeable - he had a bunch of dining and bar recommendations too! It's no frills and the boat isn't the newest one out there - but it's a great value!!! I hope it stays that way - it's a family run business so that probably helps, but most other charters charge you 50+ per guest over 6 and they are already pricier than Bad Kitty. Bad Kitty only charges you after 8. They also don't charge you more for going out to the Bathes - I did a lot of comparisons and some will up the charge to go that far out and that doesn't even include gas! So this was really a great deal for a nice boat with plenty of shade, a wet bar for mixing drinks, plenty of snorkeling gear and noodles and some nice upgrades if you want food and drinks, but they also offer ice and a cooler if you bring your own I can't say enough good things, it was a really great experience and a great way to see some of the BVI without being herded around in a large group Some things to consider for private charters: - All charge a customs fee to go to the BVI: I saw some as low as $75 and some as high as $90 pp - I think this has to do something with what BVI charges charters each year to enter their waters, but this is not unusual and many will ask for your passports up front. If you don't want to bother with that, stay in the USVI for the day - you will still be able to get to some cool spots! - All charters do expect gratuity for the Captain - standard is 20% gratuity (I suppose you don't have to give that much, but gee... they hang out with you all day, get you to some hard to reach spots and make sure you are back through US customs before they close at 5 so you aren't stranded! So you better have a good reason not to give 20% ) - You are also responsible for the gas - the further out you go, the more expensive this will be. It was $294 for our day out to the Bathes, then to Norman Island for lunch and a few snorkeling spots (but that is going to be based on the volatile price of gas at the moment - SO DO NOT quote me on that). When I talked to the woman who helped me with the booking, she was able to give me estimates based on where we thought we wanted to go - which was helpful for budgeting :) All-in-all - I can't recommend them enough!! I plan to be back in the USVI again next year and will be looking these guys up again! And thanks again Captain Greg for a truly wonderful, memorable day!!! read more

Our recent trip aboard Bad Kitty Boat Tours (Bad Kitty 2) in St. Thomas was largely a wonderful experience. The boat was clean and well-maintained, and the itinerary took us through some of the most stunning waters and islands the Caribbean has to offer. From swimming in crystal-clear waters to relaxing on pristine beaches, it truly made for a memorable day. Despite the longer wait at BVI customs, it went off without a hitch. The crew--apart from one exception--was friendly, engaging, and attentive. They made sure everyone was safe, comfortable, and having fun. The drinks were flowing, the music set a great tone, and the overall vibe was relaxed yet professional. That said, I would be remiss not to mention the demeanor of Captain Jeremy. While clearly knowledgeable about the boat and the route, his tone throughout the day felt unnecessarily condescending and dismissive, I mean this guy is all business. What could have been light-hearted banter often came off as dismissive or patronizing, which slightly dulled the otherwise positive energy aboard. Despite that hiccup, the Bad Kitty experience was still enjoyable, and I would recommend it to others--with the caveat to manage expectations around the captain's communication style. A bit more warmth and respect from the helm would go a long way toward making this a five-star excursion. read more

We took our fourth trip with Bad Kitty / Calypso Charters and this time booked a full day on Cat 5 for a private charter. We visited four spots, two for drinking and eating and two for snorkeling, with Captain Greg's assistance. There were seven adults and we had plenty of room. Three from our groups used bean bags on the front bough and raved about their seats. Capt Greg is fantastic. My husband and I also rode with him for an adventure in February to Reef Bay. Great guy! This company is top notch and we're already planning our next adventure with them. read more

This was one of the best day trips that we did while in the Virgin Islands. So why am I only reviewing it as a three? A few reasons, but the main reason is that the "5 stops" disclosure are misleading. The first stop was, in fact, Virgin Gorda but that was only a drop-off point for the Baths. I didn't mind being dropped off, in the water, far from the shore, but some of the point on the tour were not ok with that. Here's my quarrel here, it's that the tour did not start "in Spanish Town" nor were there two "stops" in Virgin Gorda. Yes, there was a pickup and drop-off point in Virgin Gorda, but it was only to tour the Baths. Check-in for us was at the ferry terminal at Red Hook. I think that the 45 minutes early arrival was a bit an overkill and there were people that straggled in at the last minute. By the time we boarded, I was hangry and ready for the continental breakfast. Nope. Not so fast, we had to wait until everyone had their customs form filled out and their passports handed over for the second time before we got could eat or drink. We knew ahead of time that only soda and water only at first, no alcohol until after the snorkel, but the delay was a bit disappointing. The views of the islands along the way and the experiences on the islands were amazing. My husband and I didn't care for the female tour guide, but Jason was super nice and informative. Compared to a private catamaran, the price per person was a heck of a deal. They could just use some training on customer service... or at least that one girl, in particular, could. read more

Our family of four adults took the 8-hour, 4-island British Virgin Islands tour to start out the new year. Our crew Scottie and Lexie were personable and friendly while Captain Antonio seemed to struggle to maneuver and park the boat (perhaps it was the light to moderate wind-but lots of grinding of gears and shifting back and forth). When we booked the tour ($150+pp) I was swept away for the notion of hop scotching among the scenic BVI basking in the sun and sipping tropical drinks. The harsh reality on our tour today: -over 5 of the 8-hour tour, including almost 3-hours at the start, our group of four and 24 others were crammed into a small catamaran style boat bouncing like a cork over rough seas (thank heaven for Dramamine) -the "continental breakfast" was one loaf of fruit and nut bread, 1/3 of a pineapple and around 2 oranges cut up -the majority of the seating is inside-6 can ride up top with the captain and a few at the stern breathing exhaust -there are lots of extra costs: $45 pp customs fee to the U.K., lunch at your own expense $80 for us, then the last stop is an island full of bars -we bought some ice cream $10 (but several speeded down to the bars to pound down some drinks). The true cost of the day for our four was around $900 with tip but some spent MUCH more. -but wait you say, you get a bunch of activities-this is true-a guided hike through The Baths on Virgin Gorda (interesting) and a short snorkel and gear (around 30 minutes) -the lunch spot is nice too but it's a long way to go just for lunch. Had I known what to expect, I think we would have skipped this one. After all you only have so many days on vacation and devoting a full-day to this is a big investment. Wecould have just stayed on St John and had a great lunch, spent time on the beach and there are plenty of great snorkeling spots that don't require a 5-hour trip on a crowded boat. For me, this was not my type of trip but hey that's just me. Perfect for people who enjoy the cruise ship type travel-being led around like a kindergarten class on land and in the water then being let off the boat from time to time to sprinkle some greenbacks around to fertilize the local economy. read more

A boat tour that depends entirely on the crew. Solid five stars if the crew is good and this can go all the way down to a one star if you have a bad crew and/or bad weather. Expect a pretty serious hike on Virgin Gorda to get to the batholiths. This is usually something the passengers don't realize- that you will be hiking barefoot over desert type topography for about a mile, through tight caves with ropes and slippery footing. The entire crew is 20-something and fit and do not understand if this is hard for you. We have been on two Bad Kitty tours of the BVI- leaving from St. John heading to Virgin Gorda, the batholiths, then to Cooper Island for lunch, then to Norman Island for snorkeling, and followed up with the grand finale at Jost van Dyck for a big booze binge at the soggy Dollar bar. It really os a spectacular day if you have a good crew. The first tour was a solid five stars and one of the best days we've ever had on vacation. It was terrible weather with high rough seas and red flag warnings everywhere we went. We had trouble with mooring and it was difficult getting in and out of the water, but still the crew and staff managed to make it one of the most wonderful and memorable vacation experiences we've ever had! We recall there was a young man named Mike who made our experience so great. Roll the clock a year later and we return to Bad Kitty with high hopes. Always a bad sign. This time the boat picked us up already full of passengers that had been picked up on St. Thomas. The passengers had already pick their seats the best ones and were very territorial for the rest of the day not allowing anyone else to have seats outside of the boat. This is a drawback if you're getting on at St. John when they've already picked up at St. Thomas. Another drawback was that this time I hostesses were very bossy females. Not saying anything -I'm a female -but these crew members were very bossy the entire trip and assumed we were stupid amateur tourists and treated us that way, talking in condescending tones all day long. While the crew and captain could barely tolerate us, be sure they expect a 20% tip, that's $60 per person, for hating on us all day. They get you hammered during the last two stops then hit you for the tip- make up your mind on the service you received before indulging in your first pain killer. I think a $20 tip would have been about right on the second tour. And remember, they pack about 30 people on this boat, so it can be interesting... Good luck! read more

Until we left and were yelled at by the captain couldn't figure it out until we were checking our bill and see that they didn't get their tip on our credit card, which we were told our trip included tip. Knowing this, I am extremely disappointed In the professionalism and conduct of the captain and would NOT RECOMMMEND THis COMPANY!!! I'm sorry, but I am in service. This was the second time we have gone on a Bad Kitty tour. This morning 8 family members and a baby took off from the Visitors Center in Cruz Bay. We had a fantastic day, even though it was raining on and off(unusual for St John). The captain, Logan and his amazing staff(Elizabeth and Sam) were accommodating, professional and so kind to each person on the trip. We had breakfast, snorkeled in various bays and then lunch with open bar. We all completely enjoyed the day! read more

We got up early to hit Virgin Gorda (baths), Salt Island for snorkeling (a special treat, seeing the RMS Rhone wreckage - thanks for the audible, Mike!), and Jost Van Dyke for lunch (liquid lunch), and were back to Red Hook in time for happy hour. It was our (myself and friend) first time out, so we got a little taste of everything for a great deal. Would absolutely recommend this trip to anyone looking to cover a lot of ground quickly. There are few times I will give a 5 star review. Bad Kitty is the shit from start to finish. Booking the trip was fast and simple. The office staff is super nice and helpful. Boat crew and captain Lee were great. Really, the entire trip was fun, never a dull moment. The crew takes care of all the BVI Custom fee ($40) and passport paperwork & explain everything in detail. History of the islands and fun facts as the trips goes on. The baths are amazing and the tour is a lot of fun. We hit Cooper island for a great lunch, great private spot. You get to order ahead and when we docked the food was out within 10 minutes. Snorkeling at the best spot in the VI.... Priceless. The crew pays close attention to everyone and makes sure you're good in the water. You don't have to be able to swim to do this trip. They will tow you into the baths shore and or back out to the boat. Everyone has a life vest on in the water. After snorkeling, it's open bar on the boat and amazing drinks come around :) The last and best stop is the world famous Soggy Dollar bar. Drinks and gift shop along with the clearest bluest water you will see in the islands. Word to the wise, buy an underwater camera or make sure your phone has a waterproof case for snorkeling. This trip is from 7:30am to 4pm. Make sure you bring cash for customs and to tip your crew. You'll want to show your appreciation for sure. Thank you guys so much, we will be back!!!! read more

Seriously, if there is one activity you must do if you're staying in St. Thomas or St. John is Bad Kitty. What an incredible day we had. There were about about 15 of us on the boat (not including the 3 crew members) and it felt like a very intimate boat ride. The Catamarans they use are MUCH faster than any other charter boat so you get to your "stops" quicker, and get to stay longer. Crew was fantastic, they played lively music and kept the drinks (PAINKILLERS) coming! Captain Chris steered us out of some pretty bad rainfall and into the most beautiful full rainbow. You have a number of stops on this trip: 1. The boat leaves St. Thomas with a few passengers, and then you head to St. John to pick up some more. 2. Virgin Gorda Baths - incredible, but please be careful if you have health issues as there is quite a long hike on some rough terrain. 3. Scrub Island - this was for lunch very quite, beautiful scenery. We were the only ones there 4. Snorkeling - not the best i've seen as a lot of the reef has been destroyed by us humans. But we had a crew member who is a marine biologist so she answered any questions we had about the view. 5. Jost Van Dyke - this was the party beach where everyone was drinking, playing music and having a great time. some tips - bring a waterproof camera - don't forget your passport as you'll be entering BVI - drink as many painkillers as you can - stop in for a vanilla killa on Jost Van Dyke read more

First off I'm an anxious person on any kind of boat and was really nervous about being on a boat in the ocean. The boat has a catamaran type hull which is much better than the monohull boats as far as comfort in riding. We went on a gorgeous day and even when it's nice, this area always has trade winds blowing between the islands. The waves were 3-4 feet with an occasional 5 footer I'd say but the boat handled them great. The crew we had were all friendly and professional. The tour is a great way to get a chance to briefly see three of the BVIs islands and a great snorkel. I would recommend this for one of your day trips while visiting St John. read more

I've been on plenty of tours and this one was average. Boat was crowded and crew was mediocre. I should have researched more about the boat because this is a closed in catamaran which means limited exterior seating and VERY crowded. The first speech by the crew was how they live off of the tips we give them. We hadn't even started and we already got the money story. Poor judgment. I do not recommend as there are several better and less crowded tours for the money. For $200 (includes custom fees) pp, you can do better. read more

So many choices for excursions on the islands. When you find a good one, you stick with it. Bad Kitty is flexible - one staple stop was no longer a great stop after the hurricanes, so they adjusted their itinerary. Snorkel gear was clean and in great condition. Posting my comments on Bad Kitty's page, although we ended up on another boat in the fleet (Sea More) for which there is no Yelp page to write a review. The folks with this company are awesome. Our group of 8 had a bit of a crisis one morning with our house's safe battery dying while all of our passports and money were trapped inside when we were supposed to be heading out on a large group cruise to the BVI on Bad Kitty. We were unable to make the departure time while we waited for a locksmith to come, so the managers worked with our group to rebook us on Sea More, a smaller private charter boat in the same fleet, for the following day. They promised us that even though Sea More wasn't able to take us to the Baths on Virgin Gorda as Bad Kitty would have, this would be the "most exciting, most fun cruise to the BVI ever". And they delivered. The crew planned a great itinerary that included the perfect mix of snorkeling, exploring, beaching, and bar-hopping -- all the while making sure we had good music pumping on the stereo and a drink in our hands. We hit The Indians and The Caves on Norman Island for snorkeling, Soggy Dollar on Jost and Willy T's floating bar off Norman for drinks and food, and checked out Sandy Cay for some picturesque photos on the sandbar. We had a great crew who took care of everything and made it a really great day with our three kids. We visited the Baths on Virgin Gorda, had lunch at Cooper Island, snorkeled and visited Jost Van Dyke. Everything was perfect! I can see how the day could go terribly wrong if the weather was bad or if you had a surly crew but our day was great! Also another reviewer mentioned having to hike and swim. No problem for us and our kids but most of the people on our boat were older and it seemed that some of them struggled with the physical demands of the trip. read more

This was a fairly simple trip, from start to finish. My husband made the reservation, the boat picked us up at Red Hook, St. Thomas, then we stopped to pick up more passengers in St. John. After stopping at Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda, for customs, we went to the Baths. Next stop was Cooper Island for lunch, and the food was great. After lunch we snorkeled, stopped at Jost Van Dyke, and returned to Red Hook. The crew was helpful with everything from filling out customs papers for the BVI, to helping a not so strong swimmer to shore, to giving some history about the area. This is not an ideal trip for small children or people who cannot make a short swim to shore and a climb through the rocks at the Baths. We had three people in our group and we all thought the trip was fantastic! read more

This was the best day of our trip. The day was fantastic. The crew was OUTSTANDING. We boarded at St. Johns after the boat had 2/3 filled at St. Thomas. No worries though, as the Captain made it clear that the seating was OPEN and you should mix up your seating habits. He even said if he saw someone rushing back to the boat every time to get the best seats, he would tap on them and have them take another seat. The stops were good. The Baths were GREAT! Scrub Island for snorkeling, and lunch. On to Jost Van Dyke and then back in. I cant say enough about the crew. Jeremy, Jason (Chappy), Justin and Kera. The Captain (Jeremy) was a really cool guy. Great, responsible, captain that still knew how to have fun. He was like the Han Solo of the V.I. Kera was a Captain in training. She was fun as well and will do well once she is off on her own. Jason and Justin were FANTASTIC, giving fun facts about the islands and a great tour of the Baths, and making a great "PainKiller".
