I had no food in my fridge and chose to treat myself with something new instead of my classic musli-yogurt homemade breakfast. I usually go to Rollerie (in my opinion the best Benedict eggs in Madrid) but this time i chose VIPS. I felt like having pancakes. From all the breakfast classics, nothing beats an American Breakfast. Entering the place is comforting. The lighting gives a welcoming vibe and decore places the restaurant at a blend between a classic dinner and a fast food restaurant. A waiter sat me down and quickly made my table. Seats are leather cushioned tinted with red. Service is what you'd expect from a place like this. Spain has its fair reputation on bad service, but VIPS doesn't fall under the stereotype. Food took about 10-20 minutes to arrive. Two pancakes, two fried eggs, bacon, and deluxe fries accompanied by caramel syrup and hot milk with chocolate Nesquick.
Everything was cooked on point, pancakes were flat yet fluffy, yolks were soft and moist, bacon was at its crunchiest, and fries were soft inside and crunchy outside. The caramel syrup was too sweet, it tasted like the kind of stuff you add to ice cream when you're 5 years old. I personally prefer a classic maple syrup with my pancakes. The fries lacked seasoning; some bites were amazing as i mixed the sweet and salty combination in the plate, but other bites simply made me think the kitchen staff simply sprinkled the seasoning on the fries pretending to be salt bae. For a total price of € 6.80 I can't complain for this meal. I was stuffed and enjoyed some parts of the experience. I would recommend the American Breakfast at VIPS for anyone who's looking for simplicity and tranquility.
